Hey guys, today I am gonna show you a very strange temple. No, this is not Angkor Wat, many people think this is part of the Angkor Wat temple, but this is a different temple in Cambodia known as the Bayon Temple, a very large temple with many intriguing features. I am sure you have seen pictures of these mysterious stone faces at least once, but here is the shocker: No documentaries have ever been made about this temple. This is very very odd, because such a fantastic ancient temple should have plenty of videos and tv programs made about it. But there is nothing, I could not even find a documentary on TH-cam. And I found a shocking reason why no documentaries can be aired on any TV channel about this temple. So welcome to the first and the only documentary about Bayon Temple.
According to Historians, the Bayon Temple was built as a Buddhist temple, these mysterious faces represent Buddha and it was built around 800 years ago. Even before you enter the Bayon temple, when you are driving towards the gate, you see these giants figures lined up on both sides of the road. Who are they? On one side, there are Gods called devas and on the other side, there are demons called Asuras and look at what is in their hands, the body of a giant snake. What are they doing with this serpent? They are churning the sea of milk. But this event is mentioned in ancient Hindu texts, not Buddhist texts, in fact Buddhism shuns features like this. So why does a Buddhist temple have a Hindu depiction outside its gate?
When you enter the Bayon temple, you realize it has a very unique visual impact. It is built completely different from any other temple in the world. There are a total of 54 towers cramped together, and each tower has multiple smiling faces embedded on them. There are a total of 216 faces on these towers. The faces may look small from the ground level, but when you go to the top level, it is just breath taking. You will become speechless for a few seconds because the giant faces with that mysterious smile give off a strange vibe.
Who does this face belong to? Why did ancient builders construct this temple with so many towers with these strange faces embedded on all sides? Archeologists and Historians say that this face depicts Buddha, and also the King Jayavarman the 7th, and he wanted to glorify Buddha and he wanted people to remember himself forever. This is why he built this temple, to establish the glory of Buddha and Himself, to turn himself into a God King.
But this entire theory is completely WRONG. These faces do not depict Buddha or the king, these faces depict the Hindu God Brahma. Brahma is the God with 4 heads, not Buddha. This is why every tower is shown with 4 heads or faces, facing 4 different directions. Ancient Hindu texts clearly mention that Brahma should be shown with 4 heads facing 4 different directions, on the other hand Buddha is never shown with 4 faces.
Even more interesting, look at the ornaments, he is wearing a spectacular necklace, He wears very ornate Ear Drops and he is wearing more jewellery on his head. This is completely against Buddha, because Buddha never wears Jewellery, he believed in simplicity. Even more important is the giant crown, it is a large conical helmet like headdress with a crown or a diadem at the top. There is an ancient sanskrit text called Manasara-Silpasastra which clearly explains how Brahma should be carved, and the ancient builders have built Brahma exactly as per this text. Again, Buddha is never shown with a giant headdress and a crown, he is shown with simple hair do.
But there is another fascinating detail: Look how he is shown with a Third Eye. Most people think only Shiva has a third eye, but Brahma also has a third eye, this is also mentioned in ancient texts. This means that ancient Cambodian sculptors had thorough knowledge of ancient Hindu texts, and they followed all the details carefully. This is stunning because even ancient Indians omitted these details some times, but they have dutifully followed it thousand miles away from India.

Hello @PraveenMohan sir, welcome back. 🙏
Now, after watching this new video about Bayon Temple, I have a few queries:
      1. In the entrance, that is the scene of Samudra Manthana, in which there are gods and demons are churning the milk ocean holding the giant serpent but one thing is missing from the scene. That is the Mandara mountain which is the most important part of this process.
Is that giant multi-faceted tower is the Mount Mandara?
      2. As per hindu mythology, Lord Shiva had cursed Bramha and said no human will worship him but we do know that there are only 6 Bramha temples in whole India and only 1 known outside of India, which is Prambanan temple in Java, Indonesia which contains idols of the Indian Holy Trinity. But, now if Bayon temple comes out to be a Bramha temple then this will be a big discovery!
      3. The important point is, in any temple of India of any gods or goddesses, there should be an idol or other forms shown for worshiping. But as you had mentioned that in Bayon temple there are idols of lord Shiva and Vishnu but none of Bramha! Why is it so? An idol is meant for worshiping but not the design structure of a temple can be worshiped as the idol!
Sir, I will be delighted to get back some feedbacks from your end on these.
      Thanks & Regards!

@@Vlogs_Dharma I already did my research and I am Khmer! You guys from India always assume that us Khmer and Buddhist don’t Know our roots and history. Yes, we were Hindu but we only worshipped Vishnu, who reincarnated as Buddha who is also represented with four heads, and Churning of the ocean of milk is also known in Buddhist mythology. Jayavarman VII is Buddhist and he’s one of the main reason why Khmer is Buddhist today. The temples that our ancestors built are no mystery and our history is also carved on the walls of these temples. I find it funny how you guys only pick certain topics and make everything seem like it’s a mystery when in reality everything is written on the walls. Battle scenes, important events and daily livelihoods are also carved on these walls. I wonder why you guys don’t discuss these topics, since it’ll debunk your theory. Then again, that’s probably why you guys avoid these other sections of the temples.

@gopal yadav I was thinking the same thing, and wondering why these guys from India are trying to rewrite Khmer history. They can’t even protect their own culture and now they’re making up lies about our history and they wonder why these videos are being banned.

@gopal yadav my apologies if I offended you brother, but that’s not what I was trying to do and I know you understand that. I get what you’re saying but it’s outrageous and insane that guys like Praveen is going to other countries and making lies and false accusations. Worse part is that he’s presenting it to the world and believing that us Khmer don’t know are own roots and history. Do he seriously believe that we’re going to sit idle while he’s lying about our culture to the world? Another thing too is that he’s obviously picking what topics to talk about to only subjects that support his lies. My people know Bayon, and we know Angkor and there’s no mystery to it and there’s no mystery to our Ancestors and their achievements. If Praveen has any questions, then why don’t he ask instead of making assumptions and insulting us Khmer and Buddhism?

There is a reason why in all the archaelogical surveys of india only buddhist culture comes out of sand and never hindu gods. My only tip to you on your journey dont believe anything just because someone tells you to believe or some hindu text say so. I visited the Angkor/Bayon complex in 1996 and again in 2016. (It was much more pleasant in 1996!) It is explained by all Cambodians that it is a Hindu temple complex. The temple of Angkor Wat are decorated with huge bas reliefs of scenes from the Ramayana. When King Sihanouk returned to Cambodia in 1993, I watched the event on television with my landlady. He received blessings from Buddhist monks and I made a comment about his respect for the religion as a Buddhist. My landlady corrected me, saying he was not Buddhist, but Brahman.

I am Khmer and my parents says the temples are all representations of God's and Goddesses not of kings or Bhudda himself. They Said people started incorporating Bhuddha & Buddhism after some of the temples had been built. So you are so right. I don't know why the Europeans and others documentary keep stating they are of kings & bhuddhism. We are a mixture of Indian decent. Thank you for posting this. Hinduism was Khmer people's first religious faith and Bhuddhism is just teachings of ways of living not the same level as Hinduisms beliefs of God's.

u r right.. buddhism , Hinduism all originated in india..buddha was hindu prince who just has a different philosophy of life..his followers created new religion..Buddhist and hindus r like brothers..Jainism is another dharmic religion which is similar to Buddhism..buddha was guru just like Mahavir of Jainism..khemer language is highly influenced by Sanskrit and pali ..Sanskrit because of hindu Khemer kings and pali because of Buddhist influence. So basically Cambodia's culture is influenced by both Hinduism and Buddhism..hope u people preserve ur ancestors' legacy and their beliefs..Cambodia now known by these beautiful temples in world..

Yes, in our temples we have Hindu gods' statues because we considered them as guardians/Devas of Buddhist temples.
As a Buddhist, my parents sometimes took us to Hindus temples(for me they are Devas) to pay our respect to them and pray 🙏 infront of their statues.
It isn't unusual that you see Hindus gods in our temples.
My grandparents even have a small shrine for Hindus gods at home. Because they considered them as Guardians Devas who brings you good luck and wealth., etc. 😂

Your analysis makes perfect sense, but technically it's not a Brahma temple, but a temple dedicated to Brahma. I think the king who built it was huge admirer of Brahma but was also aware that Brahma was cursed to not be worshipped in temples like other gods. So he came up with a creative tribute to Brahma. The temple houses idols and carvings of all other gods except Brahma but when you look around all you see is Brahma.

@Alisha reily are you referring to his claims that bayon is a Hindu temple being passed off as a Buddhist temple. The Hindu considers the Buddhists as equal inheritors of sanatana dharma. It is the Buddhists who have a problem with their hindu ancestry. Praveen is absolutely correct in his assessment. There are many such attempts to dissociate sanatana from the edifices built to commemorate it's cultural values and systems

    • @indranidutta1945
      @indranidutta1945 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@Alisha reily he has been around for a while and no scholar has contradicted him despite his obvious popularity. I refuse to consider him a liar till there is better evidence for the same. Look at how the Sophia hagia church in Turkey been recently converted into a mosque by adding a few islamic kalmas here and there and getting rid of the more obvious Christian motiffs. On utube I have not found anything substantial to be regarded as documentary and I accept Praveen saying he's probably the first to do such a documentary on the bayon temple

I have been to different parts of India several times over 5 years and have visited temples there again and again. Now I'm in Cambodia visiting Angkor Wat and all the surrounding temples (ruins). I studied a lot of details and I noticed that they all have very Hindu details. I'm 100 percent sure that these used to be Hindu temples and then were turned into Buddha temples by the rise of Buddhism. Even if they tried, they could not hide the actual origin. It's too obvious! I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but facts are facts.

Indeed, thanks a zillion to Praveen for this gallant and noble, truth-finding mission!
√ Regarding some of the key questions he raised, let's realize some facts: 1) For many in the West, even today, to demean & dismiss Hinduism as a pagan religion of idol-worshippers, comes naturally. 2) With this bias, and then the huge pressure from pro-Chinese & pro-buddhist Cambodians it is not hard to see why they discredited, denied and, even, desecrated such Hindu ancient marvels, 3) It didn't help matters that Hindus, in general, were largely devoid of self-pride and disconnected from their ancient, bewitching culture and dharma.
√ Thus, for several centuries till mid 19th, even acknowledging that Angkor Wat had undeniable & indelible connection w/Hindu kings, mythology & religion, was very hard to accept!

I'm at Angkor now. It's amazing the sheer number of smaller temples here. Even just clearing the land before building commenced would have been a vast undertaking. I'd like to know why most of the temples are badly damaged. What happened and when. An earthquake perhaps.

    • @BB-pq3vj

After the war the whole country was in disarray. No jobs, no means of making money. Some families separated or didn't even know if their family members were one of the 2 million that died or killed. No job, no government in place yet, dead bodies, land mines everywhere. So everyone was allowed to do whatever they do to survive even if that meant selling or digging up ancient antiquities from temple sites. So alot of temples were damaged in the process.

The detail of the stonework Is far better then anything made in the last 100 years. It's about time the mainstream acknowledge this so we try to learn what incredible technology they used.
