I had to go back and re watch all 3 parts of this video again Dave you are the man, you really made this bass look great again and play great also,This is what a real relic guitar looks like Leo got it right.
What is the "foam" used to allowed PU adjustment? I need to get some for mine. I watched all 3 parts waiting to find out how to refurb the PU mount and we didn't get to see it in any detail. Very interesting videos none the less.
Just ordinary piece of foam. Music stores will happily sell you branded pickup foam but I don't believe it makes any difference. The whole point of it is to hold the pickup up at the top of the range of the screws, firm enough to achieve that purpose, soft enough that it will compress down without excessive force needed to tighten the screws and lower the pickup if desired. I just use a block of tear-away foam used for pelican cases. The little rectangular sections are close to the right size. Trim with scissors as needed.
Your open strings are buzzing, but there's no buzzing when you're fretting? That sounds like your nut action is too low. An easy way to fix it is to pop off the nut and stick a few strips of nice thick paper under it. Or if you want to do it right, just get a new nut.
nope, buzzing just as you are unfretting, just in that split second. I have to pull the string just a bit to prevent it. Wondering if its a fret crowning issue.
It might just be that the action is too low, but I would have to actually look at your bass to really tell. If you think it might be a lack of crowning on the frets, give them a look and see if they look flat on top, there should be very little to no actual flat surface on your frets, so if they look flat that might be it, although that's more of an intonation issue than a buzzing issue. Maybe there's too much fret wear on that bass and it's giving the strings more surface area in the dents for it to buzz on? I really have no idea.
Dave, You Tube has software that can search out and find other peoples music, riffs, etc if you play 10 secs or more. Just try playing a Slash Riff for your video and watch what happens. The one I got caught for using was the opening for Sweet Home Alabama. I was warned to remove it or loose it and or get shot down..hehe.....So you even have to be so careful when demonstrating a guitar.
What is that component he reinstalled 4:24? Is it some kind of hand rest? I know about guitars and would like to know more about bass guitars as I might try learning it some day.
If i put on Allman brothers band loud in the background today people just say turn that blues shit down, but this was probably a cover band Doing ''you don't love me''
now I'm worried- in my baritone guitar videos I'm playing in the background. Probably I'll be okay, because if anyone wants to claim my shitty playing as their own, it's probably their loss lol
I used to used Jamendo for royalty free music on my videos. (never mind I see they charge now) Try Bensound , as long as you credit them in the description it's free.
The infamous freeform radio station WFMU(.org) runs freemusicarchive.org - great source with wide variation. "It's not just free music; it's good music."
You really should consider a new platform for creaters with no censorship and you can get paid right away. It is called Cocoscope and it was started by a wonderful young French Canadian woman who herself is also a TH-cam creator. I think you will find it to be extremely creator friendly .
Hey Dave. Good lesson on Y.T. rights & pitfalls. Your band sounds good. Had to turn off when you turned up the volume on the music though. Either listen to what someone has to say, or listen to music. Hurts me to try and do both at the same time.
With my expensive headphones the background music is awesome and your voice is very clear. But when i listen over my cheap speakers everything is a big sound mess and your voice is just not there. Just so you know in case you want do more music videos. :D
Don't get me wrong, the music was awesome. But, What I like best about your videos is your fantastic comments and Daveisms combined with expert guitar repair. Sorry if my comment was offensive
The music was cool...until you turned it up and made us work to pick what you're saying from the music. Life's too short for that stuff. Don't make us work to figure out what you're saying. You oughta have a personal mic anyway. Please reconsider ever doing that again. Making that a regular thing would be a deal breaker. We're not here for the music.
I had to go back and re watch all 3 parts of this video again Dave you are the man, you really made this bass look great again and play great also,This is what a real relic guitar looks like Leo got it right.
I ordered a Penny Black CD and a sticker , can't wait to check out the tunes I keep hearing on this video.
Great bass playing. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks once again. Cheers
Well now I have to clean up my 83 P Bass. Nicely done Dave!
You turned that gooed piece of wood and metal into a true beauty - and it SOUNDS
Just marathoned parts 1-3 and wish it wasn't over. I'm moving to Canada I guess to have you work on my garbage!
Love the background music !
Thanks for this little series. I have a P-Bass and although it doesn't play bad, You give me courage to try and make it a little better.
Nice work. Very fun to Watch
Nice looking vintage P-Bass, wish It were mine.
Nice work
You can tell you love this bass because you don't want to stop playing and testing it.
That sounds lovely and you polished it up right nice too. What a beautiful bass
Best channel on the youpubes.
Dave I like messing around with bass guitars I would like to build one from parts is that cool or not
Neat. At 3:12 the cable magically appears in the output jack.
13:30 The old man has still got it! Sweet sounding bass there... I don't think Dave is going to let that one go.
Back round music is pretty damn sweet!
Your dance is known around these parts as the Keswick Shuffle, pairs well with the Kenora Dinner Jacket.
well Dave I've always tended towards jazz bass but I must say that precision sounded beautiful...👍✌

Good job.
Dave, the music was great.
What a nice tone monster!!
Music is danger ... Dave: “rocks out anyway”
BTW will a standard ash tray fit over a high mass bridge ?
no
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff thanks , btw did you get my order for a penny black cd and a DWOFS sticker?
“It’s intonation time”?
INTONATION FOR THE NATION!
C’mon, Dave, gimme a break….
Dave,as always good stuff
hi Dave from Wasaga Beach. Great vids. Could you call out the actual measurements please. Luke and you guys sound great
Perhaps the bass was sent back to Fullterton in the Mid 70s for repairs and they completely replaced the pickups and electronics
Solid bass lines, man!
Dave here in Boston we call that the elevator dance . No steps hahaha You rock brotha!!
Did you put foam behind the pickups?
I was thinking "that music is really annoying and distracting"; then you went and turned it up. :D
nice post....impressed with your playing...player to player, thank you. Can you address buzzing when one unfrets strings.
Your open strings are buzzing, but there's no buzzing when you're fretting? That sounds like your nut action is too low. An easy way to fix it is to pop off the nut and stick a few strips of nice thick paper under it. Or if you want to do it right, just get a new nut.

Oh, huh, never heard of this before. I would say maybe it's just the way you play, but maybe not, I don't know.
ty for your response....its not the way I play. My other basses don't do it. again ty

was hoping that you was gonna play a TL tune at the end!
Is that you plating the bass pipe and the female organ on that background music?!?
What is that component he reinstalled 4:24? Is it some kind of hand rest? I know about guitars and would like to know more about bass guitars as I might try learning it some day.
Thumb rest. It looks like there used to one on the bottom as well.
+Jason T. Thanks I've been wondering that for a while now.
its called thumb rest, bass players put their thumb fingers on it
+Oğuzhan Şahin27 Thanks
What are those extra holes on either side of the bridge from?
They're screw holes for a bridge cover.
The screw holes for the big chrome ashtray cover.
If i put on Allman brothers band loud in the background today people just say turn that blues shit down, but this was probably a cover band Doing ''you don't love me''
Is that Mr. Bill watching you? I saw his reflection in the highly reflective new pick guard when you were adjusting string height.
now I'm worried- in my baritone guitar videos I'm playing in the background. Probably I'll be okay, because if anyone wants to claim my shitty playing as their own, it's probably their loss lol
what is that background musuc dave?
Is it the band you are playing in? I am hearing rock...but "real men" sound like "The World of Fun Stuff Band feat. Dave" :-)
If a part falls to the floor... It's not necessary...
Damn...should've taken the bet...I was gonna say 2
exceLLent cam angLe

Get a parrot so he can mimic some
Looks like that neck is not the correct one; or the neck has severely shrunk. I can see the edge of the unfinished pocket. WTF!
'70s Fenders were like that. Quality control with CBS went down the drain.
You stole my music. That's my music. I wrote it and recorded it.......not!
You just don't know quality when you hear it. I use only the finest aardvark asses, for your listening pleasure. Cheers Dave.
LMAO great banter!
"I use only the finest aardvark asses"
The "background" music is really irritating.
Don't like the background music Dave.
TFB.
U ARE SO INCONSIDERITE
Thank's for the new video, just need better quality music ,Luke is good but it's time to retire. Have a Great week.
....but the musics' not up to your standard....That's Dave's original music. Oops!
The music was cool...until you turned it up and made us work to pick what you're saying from the music. Life's too short for that stuff.
