Any and every version of this song make me cry. Such powerful imagery and lyrics, and the guys' harmonies did a beautiful job. Adam's drumming made it better/worse. Gorgeous and haunting!
I appreciate anything that HF does, whether it is a cover or an original. That doesn’t mean I always like it but their talent is always on display.

I like how Home Free arranged and updated this, and their harmonies are always so nice to listen to.
I so prefer this to the original (by Bruce Robinson), although the original is so good too, and I really like the Chicks version as well. This one, though, the story telling, the harmonies, the "drumming", the soul - it all draw out real, raw emotions, and that's what a good delivery of a song does. The other versions don't do that for me. That's why Home Free keep standing out to me.

I compliment them on the actors they chose to portray the soldier and the guy. Since the actors have no lines, their visuals have to grab your attention and entangle your emotions. These two have smiles and mannerisms that just jump off the screen and invest the watcher in their outcomes.
Welcome Back, you were missed. I agree, Home Free always puts in those tiny details that really make the song and the lyrics stand out. And Adam always kills it!

Adam's military cadence is where the tears begin for me. I love the updated version by Home Free, it fits today's world.

This is a very good song, and I enjoyed it when the Chixey's released it, but their antics brought all their releases to basement level. Then Home Free does an amazing job on it, and launches it toward the stratosphere. When Home Free shines up a song, it's award winning quality.

Clarity and sound of the video are great!! I agree, with the covers I'm really focusing on the words in these songs vs just listening to the music. Yes the drums are superb just like God Bless the USA cover by Home Free.😊🇺🇸

Adam's drum cadence underscores the feeling of the last verse - that she gave her life for our country. I loved Tim's bass lines, in the chorus, so much, I picked up my bass, and started playing it. I love the way it rolls along. Their harmonies, as always, are perfect.

This song will always tear at my heart. The Dixie Chicks version came out when my now husband, got deployed back in 2003 and sent to war. Worst feeling in the world not knowing if my husband would come back home. To this day I cry when I hear this song.

It was later recorded by Ty England on his 1999 album, Highways & Dance Halls. The first rendition to be issued as a single was by the Dixie Chicks in December 2002,

Welcome back, good to see you here again. I hadn't heard the original first, and I think there's a place for both, particularly as the HF version is updated to the present day, and the acknowledgement that women serve (and sometimes die) too.
Great new versions of songs just mean more great music - I don't see how that can be a bad thing.

There's just something about Austin Rob and Chance when they harmonize together. Then throw in Adam's percussions and Tim holding the bass line it becomes absolutely magical.

The first time I listened to a clip of this version, I was not a fan. When I watched the whole video i liked it more and then i realized they switched it to a female soldier writing to the guy waiting for her to return perspective - nice change-up on their part.
Well done home free once again putting their own spin on the telling of a musical story.
I loved it from the very 1st notes, hadn't heard the song before. I cried like a baby, then watched he Chick's orig + loved it, but Home Free made me cry😢😢💜

Personally, I think a bugle playing Taps would have really been a perfect ending when they stop singing.
Great reaction, Drama. Two notes here: 1) the 2002 version by the Dixie Chicks that was also a cover. The original was both written and recorded in 1996 by Bruce Robison., as you mentioned, so his is actually the original. 2) the audio in your video is quite tinny for some reason and it was hard to hear you.
