We seem t have an issue with the 3-4 gear shift up and down. It sounds or acts like the torque converter might be applying at the same time as the 4th gear or vice a versa. We have serviced the transmission multiple times. Any idea's ? Should we try shift solenoids, oh and the transmission is a Jasper it was replaced before we purchased it . Low Mileage ( We think we noticed the odometer works, but is inaccurate) 1992.

I revived a 1997 that no one wanted: it had exactly these problems; Wouldn’t start-cleaned MAF, steering shaft binding-just wd-40, 30 bucks for new brake line and it’s the best car I’ve ever driven. People look at me a little weird but I smile when I think that total cost is less than their monthly payments.

You left out the problem I had with my '95. Behind the timing chain are four steel freeze plugs. I bought the car, being told it ran well but sometimes got hot. When I got home, discovered coolant in the oil. Started tearing it down, got down to removing the timing chain, and saw a hole in the freeze plug on the rh head! It now has nice brass freeze plugs in the timing chain compartment. With any good luck, this will solve the problem, and coolant and oil will practice good social distancing LOL!

There were four generations of Crown Vics. Gen 1 was 1979 to 1992. Gen 2 was 1993 to 1997. Gen 3 was 1998-2002. Gen 3.1 was 2003-2011; Gen 3.1 used the Gen 3 body style, but got the upgraded heads, aluminum front cross member and a few other little improvement items enough to make it slightly different.

One thing he said is innacurate. the MAF Mass Air Flow sensor does not meter barametric pressure. That is done by the MAP Mass Air Pressure sensor. On my 97 Grand Marquis, which is essentially the same as a Crown vic, Changing the rear Shocks are very difficult if you are a DIY guy. They are mounted in a very small, tight space above the frame. You need to disconnect the bottom of the shock first, then take a long open end wrench and place it over the nut at top of shock, then grab top half of shock ant twist it counterclockwise.

92-97, especially 92-95 the valve stem seals go bad and these cars can literally burn 1 quart of engine oil every 500-750 miles, you know the blue puff of smoke you see at stop lights when people take off in these older ones.

Just keep an eye on the spark plugs and make sure the engine is definitely good to go after some maintenance and then the transmission. After a full inspection you’ll see if you have a car that’ll be beautiful for you if you’re into the panther platform as a passion.

2 more problems that I’ve seen are the shift linkage tube that attaches to the steering column breaking, and the heater hose that runs under the intake manifold. Having to remove the manifold to change a heater hose is a pain. Also on the newer models the plastic intakes will crack and leak either coolant or air . They also spit out the heater hose fitting, requiring a new manifold.

My 1993crown Vic lx has a lot of problems, it runs and I can't afford to buy another vehicle. My odomiter quit working as well as the speedometer. I had a mechanic about it. He pulled the dash board out and pulled out a wire with a white attachment on the end. He said it would need to be replaced. He said it was a dealer item and had no idea what it would cost for the part. I ask if it would interfere with shifting gears. He said no. I dare anyone to try and steal it. Lol when you put it in reverse you have to take it down to drive 2 then come up 3 knocks. Before it will move. To put into drive all the way down to drive 2 then up 4 knocks lol sounds fun huh ? You never know if you have it in park because the shifter doesn't go to park it goes to reverse. But if you play with it eventually it will stay put. Now the wire with the white device on it, would it cause this problem ,?
If so how do I replace it ? At this point I have what most would say is a vaccum leak. Car starts and runs great , I had spark plugs replaced and the guy that did it broke every wire on the spark plugs loom. And he had crossed wires, none was were they were supposed to be. He will never touch my car again. But once everything was in place, now when I try to drive it it barely moves from loss of power. Please help me I live in the country and really need my car.

Was this car the first to have a modular engine before the mustang? Is the engine of this car a SOHC or a OVH? And also is overhead cam the same as SOHC? 😅

4.6L was modular and its SOHC. I believe the 4.6 came out in 91. Overhead cam is the same as OHC. The S stands for single, so theres one single overhead cam per cylinder head. Some engines have two overhead cams per head and those are DOHC engines. D meaning dual.

Umm hate to tell you this but I need to correct you! 92 is the first gen on panther platform, second 93- 97 is second and so on after that is all the way to the end of the line. Now the 92 has certain parts that are only on this car of 92. As in according to the Ford dealership in AZ it's a Romeo motor but it's junk of the obd1 series where as the next gen of obd1 had the ugly takin out with more power. I'm a crown Vic owner and my 92 I know a lot about. Thanks to Ford Racing

F150 of the same year have the same transmission. Yet, was the most sold pick up in those years, I've been seeing daily more than 10, 1990-1997 f150s on companies such as electricity, plumbing, construction etc. Also, a lot of this cars on the road, including taxis and police cars. I guess they weren't all that bad

Look first off 92-97 is the first gen aero body panthers. Also spark plugs back then had less threads on them and that was the reason for them getting pushed out that’s why ford released new spark plugs with more threads.... if a spark plugs blows out from a updated one then it’s the owners error lmao like torque them down and they won’t “blow out” .Also they only had the AOD-E trans after 95 they then put the 4r70w trans in the panther bodies, also the ONE MAJOR problem any aero body panther (93-95) had was the valve stem seals liked to pre maturely fail, but yet you said absolutely nothing about that, you literally know nothing about these cars obviously.......
