Great series of vids Mel. I have a repair to do on mine. It keeps grabbing the wheel when it's not supposed to and when the clutch is supposed to be disengaged. I assume this will be a cam problem? I'd appreciate your view.
hi chris.99% of the time the belt is the problem.the sad thing is raymarine no longer makes a belt with steel inserts (like radial tires) and now you can only buy belts with nylon inserts.keep spares handy as the new belts stretch very easily under any type of heavy load..good luck..mel
Your series on the wheel drive is very helpful, but I think it's worth mentioning that the "six thirty-seconds" screws are actually #6 screws, with 32 threads per inch pitch (TPI). Same standard applies to all SAE screw sizes smaller than 1/4". Other examples: 6-40 (same screw size in Fine pitch threads), 8-32 & 8-36, 10-28 & 10-32, etc. OTOH, if you hear "six thirty-seconds" you would think 3/16, which is a MUCH larger diameter than a #6 screw.
I have the grey 4000 mk and it has the same design flaws. The wheel is the weak link in the otherwise great autopilot system. It's a shame Raymarine made them so cheaply.
yep not the best autopilot around,but once upgraded it works pretty good.only problem with it now is the cheap replacement belts they make now.autohelm made belts with a steel core.they last a long time.new belts are nylon core and any stress and they stretch and start binding and breaking stuff.once in a while the original steel core belts come up for sale on ebay.buy all you can get..mel

check the belt,most of the time the belt has stretched and causes binding..mel

What kind of oil to lube before you put the wheel back on?
i used a very minute amount of teflon grease.and i mean minute mel
Any solution when the rollers are lost?
sorry.none available new.will probably have to buy a used complete wheel.ebay best place to find
