    Lesson 1 for guitarists: Stop caring about gear and start caring about music!

      I should print this on a shirt and sell it

      Yeah…. But when you have a Rok Axe (generic strat student guitar), it’s hard to get excited to pick it up and practice. 😅😅

    • @Prometheus4096
      @Prometheus4096 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mrhobs Why? It doesn't make any sense. One of the best guitarists still alive is Bireli Lagrene and he plays a lot of his live shows on a Yamaha Pacifica (aka a generic student strat guitar). Guitars have become so good with CNC production that a cheap guitar you buy today is way way better than a 2000 dollar guitar from 40 years ago. Also, digital simulated amps sound basically the same as the real thing, or better, because they do it at all volumes. Maybe you just have the wrong reasons to get excited?

    • @mrhobs
      @mrhobs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Prometheus4096 Nah, I'm with you, calm down haha. Its more about my guitar specifically than all cheap guitars. It has some problems, some of which are because its a cheap guitar. Sharp frets for one. Plastic-y ugly finish for another... Pickups aren't bad, but are slightly more "muffled" than I would like. Problems that just need fixing include a super high action. (So that's probably the real reason I'm not excited to play it, and I won't until I fix that.) Not sure how bad the intonation issue is between guitars. Certainly isn't great on this one, but that's just a compromise on every guitar to some degree.
      Also I just want it to look cool, and I have couple of guitars in mind. So cheap version or not, I just need a different guitar. (Actually I have another freebie junk usb guitar thing with rusty strings. I haven't even begun to work on that one, maybe its better ha.)
      But yeah, I agree there's a lot of B.S. out there about tones and stuff, but there's also some truth about the quality of the craftsmanship of some guitars over others. (The law of diminishing returns plays a part here). Maybe you just have to get a little deeper into it before you can appreciate. Its OK to not be a guitar nerd. I don't recommend it.
      Oh, I was gonna say it gets very hard to justify a guitar over 1,500 dollars imo, but everyone has their cutoff price. Could be nothing over 150 for you, I don't know. Personally I'm really only targeting the 300-800 range, depending on what I can find that checks every box, so.
      Well if you don't like my response, sorry, I tried ha.

      the problem comes if you want to sell those non-branded guitars. they give you peanuts.

    Great video and I definitely need to hear this from time to time! As fun as gear stuff is, it's more useful if i enjoy those when I'm not near my stuff like lunch breaks at work, then actually focus on getting the tones I want/having fun with seeing what tones I can get with my rig!
    Currently I'm starting to record a blues influenced rock style solo project with my Gibson SG special (p90) into a Fender VibroKing profile on my Kemper with my 339 and Orange Custom50 profile to thicken it up. Very different project for me but thats how I've been writing recently so embracing it and seeing what I can come up with!

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome man, how do you like that kemper? I've been really patient for months waiting on the quad cortex but it feels like it will never ever ship.

    • @IanNorsworthy
      @IanNorsworthy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudiomoMusic yeah tbh I absolutely love the kemper - its perfect for what I want to do; enabling me to get great tones for home recording and playing. Needs a little more tweaking for live application but works so well and gives me plenty of options!
      The quad cortex looks far better interface wise I'll say that and capturing pedals etc. Seems great but I'll be keen to compare them as for me, someone without access to lots of expensive amps and such to profile/capture, these things really come down to the quality and selection of profiles available. The kemper interface is a little old school but having tactile knobs etc is pretty cool for small on the fly tweaks and I'm at a stage where I have lots of performances set up so it's pretty much set for different circumstances. I'll definitely be intrigued to compare to a QC live especially at some point. That said one day I'm sure I'll end up valve live and kemper or the like for home studio work!

    Great stuff as always my man. 1 away from 200 subs!
    To answer the question at the end, I'm currently working on producing a few covers with my sister.
    We jam together sometimes, but she hasn't ever sung seriously for anything and we concluded that we ought do something about that.
    I'm sequencing most of the instrumentation using step input, so as far as gear is concerned I'm using nothing more than a MacBook Air, a Zoom H6 Handy Recorder, a Rode NT1000 microphone, and an Epiphone AJ-220sce acoustic guitar.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome!!! What kind of music are you guys trying to play Rowan? It's a weird experience playing guitar for a girl singer regardless of your relationship to her, but one of the perks is absolutely nobody pays attention to you trust me hahaha.
      AJ-220 is a beautiful instrument, really reminds me of the golden days of rock. I cant wait to hear what you guys are working on.

      @just_say_when3445 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudiomoMusic Thanks man, and congratulations on passing 200!
      The AJ-220 is kind of like my Mexican Tele in that it's nothing to boast about but it comfortably gets the job done.
      We're just covering a few random songs that we both enjoy. For example, we were in the car and she put on Summer Sunshine by The Corrs and I said 'Hey we should do this." I've done all of the instrumentation for all of the songs, we just need to find time to record vocals. I'll definitely show you when we're done, I'd be very grateful for your feedback. I'd love to see a video about all of the different projects that you've been involved with and where I can listen to them.
      Well done for remembering my name by the way. My surname is Messingham if you ever want to connect on Facebook (I'm not really on any other social media).
