    1: My deal breaker is the lack of component support. The lack of internet capabilities is silly, but it doesn't kill it for me.
    2: Canadian internet access is not bad in of itself, it has to do with imposed bandwidth caps. There is a link in the description with more information.

      I know this video is old, but as a fellow collector who actually DOES like the Wii, I basically have the exact same opinion as you. If this had Component Support, then I would've gotten this.

    I worked at Best Buy when these launched in North America, and seeing the shipment to the store was the first time I even knew it was coming stateside. And the empty space for a game was used in the US version which came with Mario Kart Wii as a pack in.

    Is it actually the launch model or the second wave? In the US anyway, the launch models didn't include a nunchuck as far as I remember. Though, I could have been wrong. But I'm pretty sure I remember having to go and buy one.

    @John Russo See, that would be fine. I get that. The problem here is that it's so gimped it no longer serves much of a purpose. On top of that, used regular Wiis are even cheaper, so it's not even a good value for its most basic function.

  • @jakemarshall7619

    The extra channels are for games such as Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus etc. You can add extra channels to the system from certain Wii games. In the Mario Kart game, you can install the Mario Kart channel to the Wii menu. The Mario Kart channel basically just lets you view your records from the game without having to put the disc in.

    • @AdamKoralik

  • @darthv72
    @darthv72 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Adam, have you tried the wii lan adapter (assuming you have one) to see what the system does when plugged in? To me it is more of a collector piece like the snes mini and the nes jr. It is obscure but obscure enough to be a collectors item one day due to it being so radically different than the norm.
    As to the date, it was rumored to be in the cost cutting phase a couple of years ago but only now did it get released and to Canada of all places. go figure.

  • @qliz
    @qliz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just bought mine off of eBay for like $25 CIB. I like the less moving parts thing, because I'm always nervous putting expensive games in the Wii which has a disc drive that could crap out and take my game with it (stuck). Also helps to be going for a complete Wii game and console collection.

  • @AdamKoralik
    @AdamKoralik  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My guess is it will still be a collector's piece, just not nearly as much of one.
    The NTSC version probably will be.

    If you have a 25th Anniversary Red Wii, then no.

  • @Nifterific
    @Nifterific 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Old video, I know, but the channels are likely still there for games like Wii Fit that allow you to install companion channels. In Wii Fit's case, you can weigh in real quick if you don't have time to actually play the game and you don't have to swap discs for it, and the channel is installed from within the full game and requires no internet. As for why there's like 5 blank pages, I'm stumped.

    It will output a picture via RGB SCART, but apparently it's only the same composite picture that you'd get from using the standard composite cable.

    • @AdamKoralik
      @AdamKoralik  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SuperJM9 That would just be SCART then...sort of.
      SCART is a confusing format. It has three outputs. SCART composite passthrough, SCART S-Video passthrough, and SCART RGB. The Wii Mini would only suppose SCART composite passthrough, not RGB.

    i got this console as a gift years ago and it came with Mario Kart packed in where that space was. The thing with the composite cables is extremely shitty but I don't mind it as it was free lol. but I want to see if I could mod it and put a regular Wii inside the Mini body as I vastly like the design more than the original Wii...it'll be quite a project and an impressive feat of engineering...one day.

  • @ChargedLithium

    The red wii remote plus and nunchuck were only found in the 25th anniversary edition so the mini wii could just be a way to buy the remote and its matching nunchuck for $100 dollars,or essentialy $60 for the remote and its matching nunchuck and $40 for the console. Because on a standard wii you are paying $60 for the pair,and $70 for the console plus included software

    I wish they did this design for the original Wii, (with GC support, Component, ect..) i think it looks really really nice and i prefer a toploader because you can easily get discs out with the system off and if you have to move the console over the game wont get messed up (like the 360). Also the optical reader eye is alot easier to access. and less mess ups than with a tray or slot loader

    To be fair there are other Wii peripherals that use the USB port besides the Ethernet adaptor. There's also the WiiSpeak microphone, and the webcam that came with Your Shape, among other things, and any USB keyboard will work in the menu and some software too. There's actually quite a few USB peripherals for the Wii, but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

    I think if you put a modchip in it and flash it with the regular Wii firmware, it should have the network back through the broadband adapter and it'll maybe even play GC games (minus the gamepads and memory cards)

    The PS2 was the first to use component cables. It's a way to get higher video quality out of various consoles.
    The PS2, GameCube, Wii, and XBox are at their best with component cables. After that, HDMi became the standard for best quality (360, PS3, Wii U).
