I saw a lot of lovely and wonderful freaks when I covered the Dethklok and Babymetal show but that was to be expected. But seeing the wide variety of weirdos at the Cannibal Corpse and Mayhem show? Last show I got to attend before losing my vision enough to make concerts a no go was Corpse at the old Masquerade in Atlanta with Behemoth.

I saw them in Tacoma WA, and there was a dude in a banana costume who went crazy in the pit the entire night. Was also my second metal show and was absolutely incredible.

I took my 17 year old to the same show when it was up here in Michigan. I'm 55, so my pref is for Iron Maiden, etc., so this show was his idea. I was glad to take him - it was an amazing show. And like you said, some really OG bands in this show. Taking my son to metal shows has been a great bonding experience for us. We've been to a lot of shows big and small. I couldn't even conceive of listening to the same music much less going to a concert with my old man!

I saw this show in Spokane, WA. I thought Mayhem was far and away the best performance there. They were all amazing.

awesome pics John, especially those of Rutan. i like how you captured the gritted teeth/death metal snarl. you can tell its heavy af.
Why you surprised someone recognized you at the gig? im surprised that more didnt recognize you!
Riff of the week is killer, i remember the guitar video of Rutan playing that before the album was released and couldnt stop listening to it.
My personal favorite riff on that album is Surround, Kill, Devour...at about the 2.45 mark...impossible not to headbang to that! the whole track is death metal perfection.
