As a local, I'm sad to say that we're not really "bringing them back". Back in the 50s we had trams that went as far as the outer suburbs and served as a practical form of public transport. However, they receded, and now all that remains is what you see, preserved for historical purposes and as a tourist attraction.

@@lochlanhanham8308yeah but they do keep them well maintained and with new transport ideas appearing as the city transport plan expand the possibility of trams returning could happen

Love the tram tour! Hopefully in the future though they upgrade it so there can be two lines. I feel as thought it’s a bit strange to have the teams go though one loop, up the same track, and then through another loop

I think the tram only goes round in one direction(like the former Sydney Monorail did) and the passing tracks are there in case the tram behind catches up to the one in front.

Eh, the old city was a lot uglier than people realise. Obviously some very pretty buildings existed and fell but most were brutalist.
I think the new buildings in general look better than the old ones in general. Also not having bricks falling onto people is a huge bonus.

A great tour of Christchurch with its ancient buildings. Hopefully most of the buildings damaged in the earthquake can successfully be repaired. At stop no. 17 that lady sitting at the restaurant table just changed her seat so that she could get a photo of herself with the tram. One does tend to associate one's self with the tour and history even if they hadn't paid for the tour. 😅😅😅

Its weird that it goes inside the mall/shopping centre. Nice that Christchurch has this but sad thing is that its only a tourist tram. The whole idea these days is that you dont need a car if you have public transport but I guess many people "drive with their cars" that they can try this loop. And price is extremely expensive 30NZD (thats €18/$20 USD). For example New Orleans(Louisiana, US) has old wooden trams also but they are in everyday use and the price is $1,25 per ride.
