You forgot the part about buying the 430 when it wasn't brand new, which means that someone else took the depreciation hit. That was a smart move and a great financial move too.
I get asked that question all the time. I'm a Mountie, here in Canada. I'm on my 3rd Porsche. I never buy new, my current one is 2 yrs old. I don't drink, smoke, or buy overpriced crap like Rolex watches, exclusive brand clothing. I love cars, and enjoying talking to car owners, and not wasting my time sitting in bars after work with "the guys" throwing away my hard earned dollar. That's how I can afford to own my Porsches, keep it simple.
Hey Dwayne, how could Canadians even afford to drink or smoke in Canada? Shits expensive there, not to mention having to go to a booze store to get your booze!
Your thoughts don't seem arrogant at all. People only see the fun and end result of your labor and success. Your words are words to live by. I'm a kids dentist. 30 years ago in dental school, one of our instructors gave us a lecture on how to be poor making 300k per year, and he was right. You can outspend any income. The key is to be smart in making decisions. Subscribed. So interesting
This is probably the best "How I can afford a supercar" video I've seen. You're very honest, humble, gracious, and give great advice. Congrats on your success; you've earned it. Incidentally, where have you gone traveling, and what's the best destination (and activity you did there) that you'd recommend?
When I first bought my F430 Spider privately, everyone was in such a hurry that, by the time I got home I realized I knew nothing about it. Your channel has helped me immensely over the years and I really appreciate it! It’s been interesting seeing how your life has evolved from this little TH-cam channel to achieving a dealership. You’ve definitely made some very intelligent moves! Best of luck with the new venture Dan.
My takeaway from this video is, finish school, get a job, live within your means and afford yourself some happiness. It will be on different scales for most people depending on their skill set but the main thing is that it should result in personal success and fulfillment providing they don't get caught up in the "keeping up with the Jones's" trap. I also agree 100% with the notion that you need to travel, you will never regret it! Great video, thank you:)
Daniel, I stumbled upon your channel while searching for Ferrari vids. I'm also a die-hard Ferrari fan although not yet an owner but God willing next year I'm able to buy(finance) a 458 Italia. You seem like a honest, humble and good petrol guy...keep up the good work! Have you been to Monterey Car Week? If not, man you have to come to California and experience it! Marco T.
Here's a piece of advice guys; never let women, that's long-term girlfriends and wives, never let them have direct access to your bank account. I.e. not the account your paycheck is deposited. Have a joint account for common expenses but understand this; most women view your income as "ours" while their earnings are viewed as "theirs" only. Also, most women do a lot of "recreational" shopping and they have no problem shopping on your earnings. Just look at malls, the floor space devoted to women only and then think about the overall average earnings of women. It's usually a lot less than men for a host of reasons. Once you give that a little bit of though you'll realize just how much of men's earnings go to stuff women won't care about in four months time. Having exclusive control over your earnings will make a drastic difference. Ferrari's are indeed expensive, but if you buy around the bottom of their depreciation curve they should be reachable with good income, diligent savings, and honestly, a continuous stack-up of good decisions that add to each other ending in that purchase goal. And me? I'm thinking I'll be able to acquire a Ferrari Spider, either a 360 or 430 depending on where I am in four years time.
My compliments to your relationship Daniel. My personal experience and observing others indicate it is the best way to ensure one has control of their finances. Agree on the community property laws upon divorce, but up to that point it puts the brakes on frivolous spending by the wife who pretty much always earn significantly less. Marketing people are very good at what they do and they know that women constitute something like 80+% of retail sales. And a significant percentage of that is frivolous. That is spending they can do on their own earnings.
Crap, I posted a reply here and lost it. 2nd try. That Ferrari my be frivolous but it is via your earnings. And it puts a smile on your face every time you get into it for a drive. That's worth something. Actually it's worth a lot. I've had my Alfa Romeo GTV6 for 27 years and it still makes me happy. So much of the frivolous spending by women are with earnings not of their labor. Now some is okay, but I see it in excess too often. I'd say you're doing everything right. I'll bet you're already saving for retirement already and living modestly will ensure that. But the Ferrari? If like my Alfa that experience is long lasting.
Daniel, good information but i think so people here are trying to give general advice about long term relationships knowing that the relationship you describe with Meg is certainly not the standard arrangement, in general most women want to earn less and spend more then men. Furthermore buying a Ferrari is not frivalis because F430 is not likely to depreciate more, so you have a valuable asset. Furthermore that asset is what allows you to make money from youtube, it might not be much now but you can grow your channel strictly on the basis of being a guy who owns a Ferrari.
Four years ago i bought my first ferrari 07 f430 spider.People don't understand that when you have a family to support your priority's are shifted to the family first.I worked every job you could think of stating at the age of 12 until i opened my own buisness. At 47 i was able to achieve my dream of purchasing my ferrari.Im not rich by any means, i just sacrificed alot and put in 70 to 80 hours at my business to be able to do this.I this your channel, its really great and honest to the viewers. When i see people with nice spots car i don't say they are rich,i say they worked really hard to have the car and deserve it.So anyone out there can do it if they sacrifice enough time and effort in their life.Good luck Daniel and keep the videos coming. You are a positive person to listen too.
Great advice that I can relate with. I am in my late 20's and I just purchased one of my dream cars (C7 Vette that I daily drive). I 100% agree that you have to be in the right place at the right time, but it is also important to position yourself to be in that place and equip yourself with the tools to land the job or meet an awesome contact. You've earned my subscription and I applied for your beta.
Daniel, I'm a 26 year old young man, who struck the luck vein through putting in the hours to build a reputable resume. Now in sales coming from a technical background, persistence and hard work is key for me. I can only imagine what the next 5 years will bring, but I believe I will achieve great things in my 30s. Maybe my work can someday afford me my dream car, a 458 Italia. Cheers.
Thank you for sharing your story. All your hard work has paid off. If your a car person it's ok to own a fine sports car if one can afford it. If u can't then that's ok too. But I admire your conviction and the hard work you've put in. Thanks again!
Great video! Similar path / story here. I work as a software engineer / infosec professional and have moved from established companies to working for startups.
I know this is an old video but I just discovered it. This is great and very honest . I work in a office job right now which is ok but my real passion is photography i'm hoping to eventually make a business out of this and am working my ass off to make it happen. Thanks for the video Dan it's very inspiring.
From across the pond, nice one Dan👍. The F430 (spider) is on my "to do" list, but as you suggest, it's about prioritisation, frugality and application, so it may be a year or more before it's truly at the top of that list. There's also BMW's i8 which has caught my eye, but I have to stay focused😊. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to checking out your experiences with that wonderful machine, so thanks.
I have the opportunity to meet this gentleman and view his amazing ride. He’s absolutely right, I arrived here in Austin Tx a year ago. It’s a now a year later. I went from living out of a 98 Jeep Cherokee sport, to living in a great place and driving a nice ride in just a year. Work like a dog, live like a king.
You're a really humble guy. I'm limited by my introvert personality and most likely won't make it past being a simple manager. I'm not very good at complex math or programming. I choose the IT Sysadmin career path and I don't see myself being more than a textbook "custodian". I've got a 2 year IT degree and enough business classes for another. Those types of jobs max out at $70k-$90k a year in my midwest area with low living expense. I'm thinking of abandoning my career choice and going for the entrepreneurship life. I'm only 22 but very skeptical of my future. If you read this please share your thoughts.
Mark that's a pretty good money for your age You should save as much as you can and find something that you like find out how much is the business and Buy it you can finance it just like a car my story is I'm in my early 40s I work in the fast food industry I started by being the cleaning guy obviously I was making the minimum wage back in those day's was about 4.25 and Hour but I liked and I started to save little by little by the time I was 28 I've decided that it was time to take the leap my dream was to make 500k a year and I can honestly tell you that I've achieved my dream long time ago now day's I only check out my businesses one's a week I still make more than what I dreamed of all you need to do is dream big and don't stop until you reach it believe in your self don't let nobody tell you otherwise good luck young man never stop fighting for your Dreams
Lol I was wondering if in the future I could afford a Ferrari but seeing that you do computer science type jobs and that's what I'm into, I guess I'm well on my way!
Bro, I went to Michigan (I didn't piss of my parents though and graduated from UM :), I was a Cat 3 racer, and am now too busy with kids to ride as much as I used too... Now, I'm trying to convince my wife to let me get a 360 :)
this is good advice. If you work hard and stay to your objective; the universe will always present the opportunity to become better or gain; especially through righteous means. Dreams come true man.
I work in IT and I am working on growing my phone and computer repair business and my goal is to get a aventador SV and alot of other cars but a SV for now is the main goal
+Jason Hill thanks! I think it's a certain type of car guy that likes working on their cars. Plenty of car guys have no clue how to even change their air filter but that's ok. Just as long as they love cars.
Hi Dan, What advice would you have for a new Tech startup? Id like to hire people that know how to develop websites and scaleable applications. Any programs you would recommend? I want the employees to hit the ground running with a good setup.
Well, the tools depend on what stack you're using... Hiring is probably one of the most important parts of a new startup. Bad employees can kill a good startup. It's hard to get the right talent though, and not everyone is a good person for startup mentality. You have to think quick, be ready to pivot, and get feedback as soon as possible so you aren't wasting time or money.
Hey man. I just want to let you know that I stumbled across your channel. I subscribed. You are a pretty cool dude. I like that you don't give a fuck about profanity on your channel. It really makes you seem more real to the rest of us.
Really love the channel and great to see someone that isn't a douche own a car like this and stay humble. I'm hopefully well on my way to owning one sometime soon too. Going into Nuclear engineering
Another good video! Not sure why people are asking you how you can afford the vehicle. You're a clean cut, articulate guy. Doesn't surprise me that you are able to own a high end car. I was going to guess doctor or airline pilot.
your a hard worker and super smart you deserve that that car and earned it , thanks for sharing your story , your very modest but i can say your an awesome dude !
Funny how you don't realize it at the time when parents are being tough on you because they actually want you to succeed, not because they want to be mean or abusive(sometimes, at least a little). Some people can get there without it, some can't. Heck, some can't either way. I had the opportunity to watch this with my best friend as we grew up together, and I even got some of it from his parents as well. I've spent lots of unproductive time wondering where I'd be now if my parents had been the same way with me. I recognize how vital it is now that I'm getting older. I can also see that I actually craved it back then even though I didn't realize it at the time, mine were MIA and I still occasionally feel bitter about it. But that's also motivated me. I think I've actually learned more from watching (or witnessing) people do things wrong than anything else.
For sure I learned a lot watching my siblings. When they screwed up, I thought ok, don't do that. I'm very grateful that I have amazing parents and siblings. I can definitely say that I am who I am in large part thanks to them.
I've always wanted to know this, when you make that first move, and you start your first real company, take the success and future of a business into your own hands, is there a level of fear? Or does the confidence of previous experiences get you through that?
i dread asking this but please excuse me for doing so. are you set up in such a way that all the cost of maintaining your ferrari are tax deductible? thanks.
best way to get a ferrari is to save up money and invest it in a company thats in high demand such as real estate eventually you work your way up and get there but one thing you need is ambition and need to be consistent on wanting to achieve your goals
Well done! The part about living frugally is often missed by younger folks today. My wife and I always drove cars for 10 years or more many of them used. Last year I got the first "fun" car in my life -- a Tesla P90D. I am in my 60s and loving it! It took me a little longer since we raised and put two kids though college. It is all about focusing on what your goals and passions are and the working nonstop until you get there. Most people cannot sustain doing that without immediate gratification. Good luck to you.
Hear where your coming from Normal guy . I started with a paper run , then a chemist job , then a chicken farm , then a garage ect ect . Eventually to a apprenticeship . I don't have a Ferrari a little out of my leage I love classics. People ask me how I can buy what I buy as they sit at home playing video games and smoking pot not making any effort to contribute to anything whining why they have to catch a bus to the shops . Good on you for scoring a Ferrari brother I appreciate this kind of Vid
Great vid. I'm 22 and I have a made a few cool iOS apps with friends (obasiolu.com is my portfolio site) but plan on starting at a programing bootcamp next week. I'm also have been a car fanatic since I came out the womb haha. Any advice on joining the professional tech world?
Ah yeah sorry, the initial beta closed, but if you want to keep up with when we're going to start letting more people in, you can sign up for our email list here: www.permanent.org/
Great, thank you! By the way, I am really enjoying your videos. I got home from work a while ago (early, due to snow!) and found my self watching your videos again. Great stuff! Thank you for putting in the effort to make them.
Awesome, congratulation, I am doing all that repair in my garage too like you. Just a old suv trailblazer hahaha, I never image I can do the same to a super car, and yes I am working hard to get that successful to end with f**cking Experience of Ferrari. Un abrazo.
Really not that hard to have one used. most have 10k miles or way less Seen it a 100 times. It’s the upkeep that one needs to factor in I.E. repairs. That’s being said, 60k for one sounds nice however, look into clutch discs replacement every 5k @ 6 grand or more and finding a shop that specializes on the car can get costly . For some it makes sense and this is more affordable. some who never look into it and buy on emotion it’s costly. I’m happy for anyone that buys that dream car just be smart about it.
My entire life going up I wanted to have stuff other people had that were successful. My family was poor on government assistance. I hated school, Love motorsports and cars. My dad tried his best to get me into racing. which he did when I was 11 racing go karts. long story short. I loved driving at 21 I got my CDL now im 28 years old and own my trucking company! I work my ass off every day but I make a ton of money. I get buy anything I want. Im debt free to!
Indeed, I like this topic because it's encouraging yourself to have one of your dream come true regardless either it is a car, house, private jet etc. I like to share with your guys although I'm coming on the others part of the world. Initially I'm come from poor family but when I'm at 5 years old (I'm still remember my dream to have a sport car...!). I'm sturdy up to secondary school than I'm hanging round without any job just rely on my Dad, after 6 month than I have a job with British company that's way I'm start and keep whatever extra cash, few year later I'm join work with Shell which is much better wages and stability, in between I'm attending a lot of training in order to go up another step higher position in order to have the same level with those graduate colleagues which I did, during those days I'm buy car sale car as part of my side income, right now my dream come true in actual facts that when I have one sport car than I want to have another one again and again, bear in mind that in my country almost free to pay tax instead was subsidize by the government some of the daily consumption. Right now I'm keen to buy car spare parts and sale. Therefore, I'm looking somebody from US or Europe to be my supplier especially Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Mercedes, BMW etc so please contact me privately.
Undeniably, to be born in a great Country such as US is a big contribute to that. Overthere, if you are worthy and have intraprendence, opportunities are not long in coming.
Use Polyaspartic coating vs. Epoxy! Watch my video on our garage. We just had it coated. Also great video Daniel! I'm looking to get a 360 vs. 430 in the next 6 months. Currently in research mode....
No disrespect and congrats on your success, truly. But you and your experience may be just about everything but a "normal guy experience". Your struggles depict in no way a "normal guys' experience" in the real struggles with someone with way less opportunities than you were exposed to. Although, i will say, that when your opportunities were exposed to you, you ran with it and made ot work. So congrats. But im telling you, working as hard and stressful as you have, does not compare with someone that didnt have those opportunities. Again, no disrespect and keep up the good work.
@@normalguysupercar i guess i need to reconsider my definition of what a "normal guy" is. By my standard, you were destined to be one of the "haves" and by my experience, I'm from a much larger group of the "have nots". To me, your TH-cam handle of "Normal Guy Supercar" was what drew me, but i see that your definition is a world apart from the general experience in this country. Keep up the good work:)
@@normalguysupercar , it's all subjective anyway. To someone living in Africa you're considered very rich, to a multi billionaire I think they would consider that income level poor
Typical "work hard" comment. Although I understand, this Didn't really answer the question. How much to save, what to prioritize to make the purchase, credit issues to make you ok to lend, etc.
I'm 75, and I see a lot of young people squandering their lives and money chasing the current fad. I believe a successful life entails some sacrifice and earnest work. I think I made my luck by being alert and seizing opportunities. Wishing isn't going to cut it. Look at Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or others for inspiration.
You forgot the part about buying the 430 when it wasn't brand new, which means that someone else took the depreciation hit. That was a smart move and a great financial move too.

Blighty - Kent, in the south of England to be exact. Also keep being distracted by the California, but realistically, it has to be the 430.

How long do I need to run my lemonade stand for before I can afford an F430? Thanks
Bro, I went to Michigan (I didn't piss of my parents though and graduated from UM :), I was a Cat 3 racer, and am now too busy with kids to ride as much as I used too... Now, I'm trying to convince my wife to let me get a 360 :)
you didnt own a lemonade stand?
Man you should make a few more of these, quite good.
Thanks Q
this is good advice. If you work hard and stay to your objective; the universe will always present the opportunity to become better or gain; especially through righteous means. Dreams come true man.
Yes they do, but you have to work hard to be able to recognize and grab the opportunity.
Outstanding video, again your videos kick ass! I'm so glad i found you on youtube... great advice, and I told you that you're a smart guy.....
Thanks! :)
@@normalguysupercar i was wondering can a everyday man that says make 70k or less a year be able to afford a ferrari?
I work in IT and I am working on growing my phone and computer repair business and my goal is to get a aventador SV and alot of other cars but a SV for now is the main goal
Glad to see you work on your own car. - it's rewarding and a sign of true car guy. Props!
What should I offer to pay a really good candidate for this type of position? I need to attract to good ones.
There's too many variables to answer that question over TH-cam comments.
Nice story man. Great to see that you moved up through life. Stay humble, good work!
Thanks!
@@normalguysupercar if you're ever in the market for a Procurement Professional, let me know.
Well done! Everyone has a story. The only thing you forgot to tell them is they have to have a passion for whatever it is they choose to do.
Hey man. I just want to let you know that I stumbled across your channel. I subscribed. You are a pretty cool dude. I like that you don't give a fuck about profanity on your channel. It really makes you seem more real to the rest of us.
Fuck yeah! Lol
Beautiful story my friend ., thanks for sharing., hope to meet u one day., ill be probably be going to motogp next year down in ur town., thanks .
Ah, I haven't been to MotoGP yet, but I really want to go.
Software can pay pretty well... Running software companies can pay even better. ;)
I bet! Haha
your a hard worker and super smart you deserve that that car and earned it , thanks for sharing your story , your very modest but i can say your an awesome dude !
Thank you! I appreciate that.
Both. There's always fear and doubt. But you hope your experience gets you through it.
A) you didn’t mention the license plate and whether or not that has implications on your monthly budget; B) didn’t C++ evolve from Pascal?
C++ evolved from C. The no kids part is not material to the conversation.
Thank you for this! I needed to hear this. Ironically enough I'm in IT and my gf is a social worker
i dread asking this but please excuse me for doing so. are you set up in such a way that all the cost of maintaining your ferrari are tax deductible? thanks.
best way to get a ferrari is to save up money and invest it in a company thats in high demand such as real estate eventually you work your way up and get there but one thing you need is ambition and need to be consistent on wanting to achieve your goals
+Daniel Hurlbert indeed
Watching this as a 49 yo mechanical engineer in 2025. This is a really great vid and I wish I had neighbors like yourself.
Thank you!
Inspiring video! Good for the viewers, all the best!
Thanks!
Thanks Dan great honest video. Why those engine bay glass seal looks so angry by the way??
I mean the seal between engine bay glass and carbon fiber frame at 0.42
Thanks for your reply Daniel. I am sure you will figure it out as I can see you have done q few DIY to the car. :)
This might be your best video yet, I enjoyed it 👍
Well, the editing was terrible but the content was good. :)
Good luck to you.
honest, open and humble video.....sub'd
Fantastic story and great advice.... I knew you were a smart guy 😁😁
Thanks!
Hard work and being savvy pays off! 😎 Keep it up.
I find Ferraris way classier than lambos
Japhet Anciado better
Savage Sock not always
Do you think web development is a good field??
Generally yes. Although I would say web-applications more than websites.
Great vid. I'm 22 and I have a made a few cool iOS apps with friends (obasiolu.com is my portfolio site) but plan on starting at a programing bootcamp next week. I'm also have been a car fanatic since I came out the womb haha. Any advice on joining the professional tech world?

Awesome, congratulation, I am doing all that repair in my garage too like you. Just a old suv trailblazer hahaha, I never image I can do the same to a super car, and yes I am working hard to get that successful to end with f**cking Experience of Ferrari. Un abrazo.
Woohoo! Keep it up
Tried to sign up at permanent.org not working...
Clutches last 40k miles actually. But yeah, it's not that big a deal.
Thanks fantastic! Keep kicking ass
Great video. Good advice.
Thanks
Very cool story, and awesome advice!
It helps but it's another part of the puzzle.
Epoxy your garage floor. You'll love it!
That would be a very cool multiple part video.
Use Polyaspartic coating vs. Epoxy! Watch my video on our garage. We just had it coated. Also great video Daniel! I'm looking to get a 360 vs. 430 in the next 6 months. Currently in research mode....
Who the hell gives a thumbs down on a mans honest uplifting story ?
Awesome video man very personable
Thank you!
Really great advice on travel.
Thanks. It's important
Excellent advise on this video!
Thanks!
Pausing video at start, i want to guess!! Did you start selling lemonade at 5yrs old lmao.
Lol! No, lawn mowing at 12... I suppose I did deliver papers before that too...
Great video!
I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks!
I like your style.
Nice video.
+Pacer thank you!
...great life story...thanks for sharing...
You're welcome
Good content, thanks!
Great story, Thank you.
You're welcome
No disrespect and congrats on your success, truly. But you and your experience may be just about everything but a "normal guy experience". Your struggles depict in no way a "normal guys' experience" in the real struggles with someone with way less opportunities than you were exposed to. Although, i will say, that when your opportunities were exposed to you, you ran with it and made ot work. So congrats. But im telling you, working as hard and stressful as you have, does not compare with someone that didnt have those opportunities. Again, no disrespect and keep up the good work.
I'm not denying there's been some serious luck including just being born to the right parents. That's a factor that certainly plays a role.
Thank you this is very inspirational!
You're welcome!
Love ur channel! God bless
Thanks!
This is the video I need to show my girl because she keeps saying this guys rich
I mean, it totally depends on how you define rich. I don't consider myself rich, but I'm certainly not poor.
@@normalguysupercar lol I gotcha good video
@@normalguysupercar , it's all subjective anyway. To someone living in Africa you're considered very rich, to a multi billionaire I think they would consider that income level poor
O-H!
Computer science was a wise choice but you already know that!
Indeed!
Typical "work hard" comment. Although I understand, this Didn't really answer the question. How much to save, what to prioritize to make the purchase, credit issues to make you ok to lend, etc.
It's only a few minutes long youtube video. I'm not trying to cover every single item in 1 video nor in minute detail.
Dan, it is not luck at all.. it's called "be prepared"
Well, there's always a touch of luck, but being prepared enables you to grab a hold of the luck and utilize it.
Great video
Great story!
awesome video
I'm 75, and I see a lot of young people squandering their lives and money chasing the current fad. I believe a successful life entails some sacrifice and earnest work. I think I made my luck by being alert and seizing opportunities. Wishing isn't going to cut it. Look at Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or others for inspiration.
Exactly. Well said.
Now I just want to see that Subaru!!!
Haha it makes occasional appearances.
