Solo Winter Camping in the Remote Woods of Western PA

- Alone in the heart of Western Pennsylvania’s wilderness, I take on the challenge of solo winter camping in freezing temperatures-armed with only my teardrop camper, a roaring campfire, a diesel heater and a perfectly cooked steak. Join me as I navigate icy conditions, tackle off-grid camping hurdles, and embrace the solitude of the snow-covered Laurel Highlands. Along the way, I’ll share campfire cooking, breathtaking mountain scenery, and an unexpected off-road struggle that almost left me stranded. If you love winter camping, off-road adventure, and the peace of the great outdoors, this is an adventure you don’t want to miss! #WinterCamping #SoloCamping #TeardropCamper #OffGridAdventure

I'm so sorry for the loss of your other pup. So heartbreaking. Their precious lives are so short and we never have enough time with them.
Thank you 🙏
You should always chalk your wheels on both sides of each wheel. And I would use those yellow leveling blocks underneath that tongue gives you a lot more room. That’s what I do on my trailer
Awesome video, Mike! What a great bunch of musicians. Love the song. And your son shooting the video is just priceless. Nice job Gabe! Your camping setup is spot on 👌
Thanks Sam!
I never actually put in words what I love about winter camping, but you did. It is the contrast! I love bundling up and taking my dog walking, preferably in the snowy woods. And then I come back, get into my tiny camper and make something warm for both Charlie and myself. There’s something wonderful about being comfortable and looking out a camper window and watching snowy weather. Great video
💯thank you for watching, and for the comment!
The quiet. The cold. The fine steak. The fire. The cozy bed. Juniper taking care of the Mrs. at home. A good day Mike.

Love the band! And the camping, of course.
Thank you!
One time I did not have the hitch pin in the right slot, pulled off and the camper tongue fell to the ground. That was a B to fix. Now I carry always a little shovel and hydraulic jack. My camper is heavier than yours, I solo and am an ole lady, HA! Sometimes...things happen. Glad you knew how to get out of that situation. Merry Christmas! Hope Santa brings you a back cover for the teardrop.
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Great video love the music had to laugh about getting out of there like a tree biff
😂thank you!
You're not stupid but human. I had a similar situation happen to me recently except I was at an RV Park. I attempted to bump the ball on just a tiny bit and since I didn't have the chains attached yet, the front of my 320S shifted o the right on gravel. This shift was right next to the pad so I couldn't get my truck angled and flat in order to hitch. Of course I couldn't move it by myself, so I called the office for help, and before that person arrived an Angel walked up and helped me out. These things happen. I too am so very sorry for the loss of your fur baby. I'm glad Juniper is helping your wife with her grieving. Take care and I enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the nice comment! Glad you had some help with that situation, it can be nerve racking when you’re out there by yourself! Thank you for watching the videos! ✌️🙏
Winter camping is awesome. Thanks for videos.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thankful you made it off the mtn before the weather.
Thank you!
So glad you are home safe!
Thank you!
What no scariest camping video lol.. just kidding awesome video enjoy watching your videos keep up the good work my friend. Sorry about your dog.
😂 Thank you Walter! I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel 😎
Hey Mike we want more of your music man.
Stay tuned! 😎
Just an FYI, if you’re gonna leave your trailer like that, you should really get a trailer hitch lock because my friend had his teardrop trailer stolen and he never recovered it or you could put AirPods in it now that’s what he does not his trailer but he does have a trailer hitch
Thanks for the video
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed the video and the music. Im so old that i rember when the new bridge was built and there was a small town where the lake is. As a small child i used to go to Negro mountain with my parents and my dad went fishing. Very rustic cabins but good memories. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Glad you got off the mountain safely
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Make like a tree and get outtahere. Another one is thats more phony than screen door on a battle ship. Love your content
Thanks!!
Awesome video! I’m jealous of your setup. One day…
Thanks! Stay focused on the goal and you’ll get there. Cheers!
Have you thought about getting a tire step and putting the diesel heater on it? You could greatly shorten the length of that heating duct.
I did get a tire step for that purpose. Unfortunately there isn’t enough clearance behind the wheel. I don’t mind the duct length. Having the heater behind the corner under the camper gives it some shelter from rain and snow, and I barely hear it. Thanks for the comment!
Wow ! Just went to listen to that music video you guys did. That was astounding. Thanks for including the link. So that's your day job? I don't watch you often but I hadn't known that you were a musician until now. Loved that video. Check it out, people ! Link above.
Thank you! Semi-retired from music. It was my day job for 25 years. Here’s a playlist with a bunch of Christmas music I’ve produced over the years. Cheers and Merry Christmas! th-cam.com/play/PLSJgLET66J47Z9RB-UGWkvAsry6aPmtbi.html&si=0i9goybbEzvnB8QD
@@NowhereBoundAdventures Cool ! Thank you.

Sweet! I will take you up on that! Thank you sir!
Another great video. Really enjoyed the Christmas music.
Merry Christmas!
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
I just liked and subscribed. Don't be so hard on yourself, things happen. Sorry to hear about your loss with your wife's fur baby. Anyway see you in the next video. God bless!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I appreciate it!
You make me want to get out there in the cold. Good stuff!
Sorry for the loss of your dog. That’s a very difficult time. 🙏🏼
Thank you
I know what you were getting at with moving firewood, we had an issue with Emerald Ash Boring beatles few years back up here in Lucas County Ohio, i presume it was all of Ohio i reckon. I think your safe especially in the winter time. Cheers from Lake Erie.
Cheers! Thanks for watching!
Lol! Winter camping? Lol, looks like fall camping to me.
Definitely winter. And yes, slightly on the mild side. It was a super nice winter outdoor experience, until the last day. Thanks for watching!
Wood thievery!! LOL
😂
Did you remove your microwave and install a matching door? In California, I don’t need the diesel heater so I am using a 12V blanket… toastie… when the wind wasn’t trying to flip my unit over last Friday morning.
I use the microwave as a little storage area. I might eventually get rid of it and maybe do a water heater in that space. I’ve used the 12v blanket occasionally and it works great! Thanks for watching!
@@NowhereBoundAdventures With emphasis on "little" 8-)))) Mine came with a water heater, but the water flow is very low and must be plugged into shore power to work. Take extra care in picking one. It is mounted under the sink.
Is that pot you used on the broccoli any good. Is it strong?
Yes it is! You can find it in my Amazon storefront link in description
Awesome. I love your stuff. I'm a retired musician living off an A.F. of M. pension, a small government pension from some teaching I did to supplement my income after live music slowed down where I was working in the casinos, a few "Christmas in July" residual checks and Social Security. I grew up in Indiana and moved west after college to work in casino showrooms at Lake Tahoe and Reno. I have enough money and little enough debt to make a run at this stuff (not being a content creator but living the lifestyle).
There would come a time, especially with equipment failure expectations, that I would have to sell my house to make a run at doing it. At 72, I am a bit old to be starting, but it is just me and my dog, a paid for 19-foot 2019 Travel Lite Ultralight trailer, and a paid-for tow vehicle. I don't want to try the teardrop just yet due to my age. My trailer is great for boondocking, and I am really used to it. I have hiked all up and down the Sierra starting when I was about 25. If worse comes to worse and a catastrophic illness befalls me, I have four married kids who are all willing to either take me in, share me, or put in a little extra to help me finish out my life.
What do you think? I wouldn't want to impose on my kids for any longer than absolutely necessary, but they swear they'll take me in until I die. I'm not trying to put the pressure on you by asking you if you think I should do it, but can you think of any things that an old guy like me ought to be thinking about?
Keep up this great work, man. I really do love your stuff. Love your guitar work. I can tell we are part of the same tribe.
Thanks for the comment!! I would say do what makes you happy, just be smart and safe about it 😁. I truly believe this lifestyle can add years to your life. It keeps you active and constantly delivers new and fun experiences! Cheers brother! Nice to hear from another musician. Your comment made my day!
@@NowhereBoundAdventures Thanks!
