I can't believe I missed Warren Spector's class, I'm in Texas and I'm a junior college student but if I ever found out that Spector was a teacher at the University of Texas, I'd drop whatever I'm doing and sign up for his class. That guy's a freaking legend.

Seems like they have Human Revolution on the right path. I am hopeful. At least Smith had the balls to come out and pretty much say "Yes. We fucked up. I fucked up". Not many people would be able to do that. The mark of a developer that truly cares. He is now working on that newly announced "Dishonored" game, which seems to incorporate many of the elements that made Deus Ex so great. Has me excited for that project as well.

I wish they could make a game that captured the spirit that the original Deus Ex had. It was so good. There's never been anything close since

Prey is pretty close! But closer to bioshock. More horror themed than a real world. I'd be so happy if they combined the near future world of DXHR with the mechanics of Prey

Or some characters in the game that they introduced emotionally and then just left them behind. Even if those were more or less anonymous characters met on the way. Like some ship captain's mail to his daughter or son that you could read, and yet they gave you no option to inform the guy that his ship was going to explode. Or what happened to Smuggler. It may have been that they didn't have enough time for that though, I think. Still, it proves that what they said in the video is so true.

They say they needed a repeatable appearance of certain characters in the game and they succeeded in most cases, but failed in few. E.g they really failed with Paul - after creating so many emotional connections with him and the main character, he just disappears at some point, even if we rescue him. I remember it was really, really disappointing. There was even no conversation about what happened. Also, if Jock dies, then it is also left unspoken. Tracer Tong was random too. So could be better.

Happy to say both Dishonored and Human Revolution turned out rather on-point. I have a number of issues with both, but they still pretty damn high on my list.
It's weird to see what's going on with the Epic Mickey series. To me, it seems like this sort of dream project for him. He is a big Disney fan, so I almost feel his working with the source material takes precedence over the game itself. He seems really passionate about his work on the series, the games just aren't all that good. Sad.

one thing i loved about invisible war was the super interactive environment. you could grab a basketball and go to the tarsus gym and attempt to shoot hoops.

yeh, if you look at the interviews with harvey and the others about dishonored, it's clear they are bringing what they learned from deus ex to their game.

Yes, you are right, I can imagine, maybe I shouldn't complain :) But it only shows how good the game was - it got me involved so much that I actually cared about those little things.

too much of the video is him ranting about the nature of memories or some junk.
I'd be pretty bored if i was at that lecture, as much as i like deus ex.
