Actually a lot of hair salons in Japan are simply racist. You simply believed the excuse that you were given. They are simply afraid that other customers will stop going there if people notice that they started having Indian customers. You need to understand that Japan is an incredibly racist place. Language proficiency doesn't get you brownie points at all. In fact, in many cases it makes things worse because the language barrier in normally used as a "safety buffer."

最初の｢外国人だ！｣のとこで思いましたが、外国人の方って恐らく日本人から好奇の目で見られてるとかよそよそしい扱い受けてるって経験したことあると思うんですが、本当に慣れてないだけなんですよね...
