There is another video from a later date where Simone is even trying to play that rhythm on the piano herself without a percussionist. She seems frustrated in this performance. I thought it was interesting that she was singing a french song to a french audience. She must have been aware that she would be scrutinized not only for her pronunciation but also because she chose to do such a famous french song. She even says "Sorry about the words y'all." Lol, you can tell she was struggling with that the entire time. It's part of why I love her so much. I wish I could give her a hug for a good two minutes. Ne me quitte pas was the first song by Nina Simone that I listened to many years ago. It is still a once in a lifetime experience for me.
Nina is just stunning... her accent in singing "Ne me quitte pas" adds an exile dimension and depth to the song..and I love "my way" her way.
