LA VERDAD GENIALLLL, ADEMAS ES U TEMASOO DE LED ZEPPELIN !!!! GENISSS ME DELEITO ESCUCHANDO ESTE TIPO DE MUSICCAAA,, TENGO 17 AÑOS Y AMO LA MUSICA DE LOS 60' EN ADELANTE
Its impressive enough that he plays with such technique but what is equally just as impressive is how he hardly has to look at the guitar when he plays. He is amazing!
Yeah..good old Stanley's been around and about since 1986..I have used his music on VHS to DVD dubs for my ATV helmet cam trips and journeys thru the Arizona desert...Imagine cruising down a desert wash at 50mph dodging cactus and rocks..listening to this song.
I've been searching for this for months, without knowing the name of the guitarist! All I had to help me find it was the phrase "black guy covers stairway to heaven". I saw it years ago on TV, and wanted to show a friend how awesome it is. Well I got here, and it was worth the effort :)
This guy used to or maybe still does sit next to Les Paul in jazz clubs in NYC well deserved and great appreciation for his music. I got his Autograph ..bonus on top of being able to hear his already pristine licks.
I can't help but picture a little kid playing a regular sized guitar when I see people strum the neck. I guess those that play at a young age get used to playing that way... or simply feel more comfortable. I'm happy as long as they keep on playing. =)
Technically awesome! Deeply moving! I remember when my best bud turned me on to this guy that played in the NYC subways at one time. There are a lot of guys that play this style now, although I haven't seen any get as deep and soulfully as Stan. I remember the 'upstanding critics' at the time doubted that he could pull off convincing performances live with a real band behind he as he was a loner. Thanks Orbs2009 for this
@richcapo My God. I saw him 20 years ago playing this live, and I thought it was unsurpassable then. And you're telling me his skills have improved. That is mind blowing.
While I like Stanley's tone and unique technique a lot, I don't think arts is a competition for him to be the "pinnacle of sound" or to "beat the living crap out of all other guitarists". Not to mention that a completely different sound is sought for in classical guitar, hence the tone production is completely different so Stanley (again, as much as I like him) cannot be "the pinnacle of sound you can hope to achieve" for classical players. Thumbs up to Stanley's performance here:)
@olabaz The funny thing is, he can play piano. damn well. i just got back from seeing Stanley live and he played some SICK stuff where he played guitar with one hand and piano with the other. SJ is a fucking legend..
While I really like this guy, after listening to a bunch of his songs, I understand why sometimes simple and less can sometimes be more. Songs that have changes in them pace and complexity/simplicity wise, and not just tons of notes bumblebeeing around the basic notes that count, are sometimes more emotionale than really technical and or flashy multi note playing. This kind of playing is more to be admired for the playing skill. I wish he would lay low for bits and then kick in more often.
@lundehund44 i saw him way back then,zen zen thats an understatment.....playing fluidity complexity....at one point he was more intersted in the fly jumping about on the lights....
@davisiba1 guys who really THINK the original version is simply great and it's wrong to play like crazy a legendary song...but the guy plays amazingly, this song is perfect just like the original
He's incredible...but you should say "Electric"....you can't do this with a pure acoustic. He does crank that volume super high to be able to play it this way.
its just yo said the "proper way" which also could mean the right way..so to me it seemed like you was saying tht he wasn't playing it right and that he is playing it wrong and thats not the way people should play the guitar. and wha i mean wat your comfortable with is tht Stanley might be comfortable playing like tht (so there is really no proper way) do yo get wat im saying.
I'd be rather careful to make such broad sweeping statements. For one, a little overdrive makes for a great sound if it's not overdone. And honestly Stanley's clean tone isn't very good at all. Sounds like his pickups are a bit more powerful than necessary, so it's over-trebly, without much body. Stevie Ray Vaughan has excellent clean tone in Riviera Paradise. And George Benson has great clean tone pretty much always. And both players are fantastic in basically all ways that you mentioned.
Difficulty of technique in no way makes one superior to anyone else. It's the music, not the method. And I struggle to see how pedal use figures into any of that. Building one's sound includes those very elements, and otherwise depends only on your amp, instrument, and fingers, not making you any better (solely) either. As a rule wide-reaching statements are dangerous to make because they're usually wrong due to their very nature. And you still haven't addressed his bad tone: your main point.
All you snobs acting like this is nothing but you're the first one to say Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai's finger tapping are out of this world...LMAO:) You only got some negative shit to say because it's a Black man doing this. For Christ sake this man has done this song playing two guitars at the same time on other videos. Just stop with the bullshit.
@canucktheclown And you sir make "reading the posts" unbearable, would it be that difficult to admire this talented mans interpretive ceativitiy, amazing ability and technique without insulting the song or its source? NVM, the answer is a question of human nature..... On a positive note, was that killer or what!

I was just going to go bed before I stumbled across this video. Well, I'm going to be up for another few hours now listening to Stanley Jordan.
He is truly one of the greats. Sheerly brilliant talent and his style is beautifully unique.
sublime , queste note sono paradisiache
Its impressive enough that he plays with such technique but what is equally just as impressive is how he hardly has to look at the guitar when he plays. He is amazing!

stairway to heaven is the perfect song. this is a great version.
I simply do not know any other guitar player who would feel the instrument just as much as Stanley does....... amazing guy - briliant!!!
BRILLIANT!
I met him years ago in Frankfurt Germany at the Music Fair.
Since then for me he is the best guitar player in the world.
I've been searching for this for months, without knowing the name of the guitarist! All I had to help me find it was the phrase "black guy covers stairway to heaven".
I saw it years ago on TV, and wanted to show a friend how awesome it is.
Well I got here, and it was worth the effort :)
i love how he can play with such control and subtlety, he's one of my favorite artists
This guy used to or maybe still does sit next to Les Paul in jazz clubs in NYC well deserved and great appreciation for his music. I got his Autograph ..bonus on top of being able to hear his already pristine licks.

At 2:28 it kind of looks like there's a scary possessed puppet in the background. This is really really cool! So pretty!
...how the hell do you dislike this?
diggin' that chrono trigger chorus sound

What Rachelle Farrell is to the human voice, he is to the guitar.
Lmao! Drummer makes an epic face @ 5:25. LOL but for real Stanley Jordan is amazing! I think he's underated.
@olabaz The funny thing is, he can play piano. damn well. i just got back from seeing Stanley live and he played some SICK stuff where he played guitar with one hand and piano with the other. SJ is a fucking legend..
@livinis2die4 hell yeah!
6:15 AAAAAAAWWWW YEAAAAAAA!!! (The same guy who was headbanging)
This guy made a cameo in the movie 'blind date' which stared Bruce Willis.

@anonymusneo yeah .... I do remember him :) how could I not, it's just a different style of playing and totally different technique, do you agree? :)
i didn't think it was possible to make the original version even better, but i was wrong
@GreatJeca
So...You & Who Else ?
chamillionaire on the keys, awesome lol
where does one start...
hahaha .. stanley made this like his own for sure
holy $hit
"not necessarily stoned... but beautiful"
@mpiekarz2000 How can you forget Steve Vai
@Salse7rito Yeah, Led Zeppelin))))
You don't say?
He's incredible...but you should say "Electric"....you can't do this with a pure acoustic. He does crank that volume super high to be able to play it this way.
Satan disliked this 17 times. :P
its cool how is guitar is amplified and all he is doing is just tapping the guitar strings to play rythme and lead
man that keyboardist really fubared that whole thing
its just yo said the "proper way" which also could mean the right way..so to me it seemed like you was saying tht he wasn't playing it right and that he is playing it wrong and thats not the way people should play the guitar. and wha i mean wat your comfortable with is tht Stanley might be comfortable playing like tht (so there is really no proper way) do yo get wat im saying.

Love the guitar playing. Not keen about the keyboard.
Okay so this is all tapping? I'm going crazy just to understand.
is it me or is it all his rigt hand doing the work..?
LMAO too funny!
NOT SURE if trolling or really, really dense.
Damn keyboardist trying to share the spotlight
this is a cover of led Zeppelin's original song!!!
didnt led zeppelin do a cover of this
@ 2:49 wiz khalifa on the keys :)
he's playing it wrong: his right hand should be over the pickups.

Keyboards were a bit overbearing, weren't they?
@joao1538 Vamos fundar uma religião em homenagem a ele?
Lets iniciate a religion on his tribute?
E aí, vocês fundaram, feras?
@canucktheclown
And you sir make "reading the posts" unbearable, would it be that difficult to admire this talented mans interpretive ceativitiy, amazing ability and technique without insulting the song or its source? NVM, the answer is a question of human nature.....
On a positive note, was that killer or what!
