I saw Stanley open for Kenny G in Tucson over 25 years ago and loved it so much, I left when he left. Who wants to see Kenny G after a true artist leaves the stage? I'd love to see him play live again. I'm in FL, book a date!!
The guitar is truly the most amazing instrument of them all and if it wasn’t for TH-cam I wouldn’t get to see 99.9% of it. This guy is so far beyond a guitar player, he is the guitar, I think the guitar is playing him.
He's obviously not here for a fashion show and I am so glad for that. What a gift this man has. I saw him live a few years back at the Coach house in San Juan Capistrano. I sat in awe for the whole 3 hours that he played and was pretty sure I didn't breath that whole time. We are blessed to have him!
I had the honor of meeting with Stanley at the 12th street pub in Philidelphia in 1995. What a neat young, and talented entertainer he is, love you Stanley, beautiful.
With the current wave of brilliant hammer playing guitarists we tend to forget that long before them there were guitarists pioneering this field. What a Wonderful recording and playing.
Saw him in 1995 opening for Michael Frank’s in Valley Forge PA. Amazing. Saw an interview with Stevie Ray Vaughan late 80’s and SRV said “He’s so good it’s not fair”.
Absolutely marvelous!..... By far one of the greatest guitarist of the 21st. century.... Thank you Stanley Jordan, you're truly an angel.... I'm amazed, as I can sit and listen to your magical talent for hours.... Yes, you're a wonderful gift to our world..... Blessings and Namaste.
I saw you last night, Mr Jordan, and your gorgeous daughter, Julia, MusicMommy, and it was the BEST birthday present I've received in a very long time. I got to meet you both afterwards and shared that as a yoga teacher and artist I play your music for my students to keep the energy of creativity high. Thank you for your contribution to my world. My friend and I gave our card to Julia. I can't wait to see you both again.
He's definitely got the strength in those hands and the talent, the brain to put all those scales and riffs together, the musical training and dues paying and finally a guitar tech that can set the action and set the fret wire just right on his guitar so it doesn't buzz. It takes a bit of finesse to do the tap thing even marginally well. Mr. Jordon is beyond.......
I read all the comments on this video. Out of 242 comments, 9 were even about his looks, only 5 were negative. And of those 5, 3 still praised his playing, showing it wasn't their only area of focus. So i think it's fair to say that "so many people" are not, in fact, focused on the way he looks.
@@origami_dream The thing is that this opinion wasn’t formed off this video alone. When I see his stuff on Facebook it’s full of shallow comments on his appearance.
@@Rakkhun369 Okay but based on this video, i'm not seeing it to a noticeable degree. Like i'm not even hating on you or anything. Said people can indeed go to hell. I just... think maybe you're seeing them disproportionate to their actual presence. Maybe just chill and not care so much? There will always be some idiots around, and i super get letting them get to you, but... just try not to. The hate always comes through louder. It's how we're wired. I think you're seeing it as bigger than it's actually there. Reality's less bleak, in at least this case, than you're letting it seem.
@@origami_dream uh, no offense but don’t tell me what my reality is. I’m not the one that read 200+ comments. I think you’re taking this a lot more seriously than I am. No offense. Just can’t really wrap my head around what your issue is here.
The best interpretation I have ever heard! Thought there were 2 guitars playing! Thank you, Stanley Jordan for this incredible sensitivity! This says Theo from Germany!st
A realy great guitarist. 30 years ago i saw him in a tv show with open mouth. He is great and set new levels. Sad only few people know how revolutionary his guitar style was. Two left hand is stanley jordan...
I saw him in 1986 or 1987. He's still off in his own fascinating orbit--the revolution never came, even within the narrow confines of jazz. Emmett Chapman's revolution, I suppose it really was, led to Stanley and a few others, but it's remained a pretty small niche in the guitar world. Here's Chapman in the mid-1970s. th-cam.com/video/VGcvHgXtgiY/w-d-xo.html
Way late to the thread, but about 1984 he was on Carson. Johnny's show was still pretty much "must see" at that time. The next day everyone was like "DID YOU SEE CARSON LAST NIGHT???!!!". We did. Wow! Blessings to Blue Note records for launching him, and Bobby McFerrin, among others.
WOW!!! Dude, are you from this planet??? That was just out of this world!!! I'm so glad I watched your video. My God you are so talented. I loved the performance. Beautiful job. Cheers, love and peace to you man, Steve Wilson Ontario Canada
I remember when I was in highschool, he came to a jazz cafe in my neighborhood out Jessup Maryland where he held a music workshop for 10 of us plus a few parents. The first time I saw anyone play like that, I didn't know of him at the time and thinking back now, I cannot believe I had that close of an experience to the man! just an incredible musician!
I had his first album in 86 while in USAF. I believe he lead and influence the beginning of acoustic finger-style to today's rhythm drumming on the guitar! Guitarist started exploring all types of different ways to play the guitar that was different from standard methods that were taught! Its so amazing the influence of the 80;s blues and neo classical players and others like Stanly had on todays guitarist many who started as kids and play guitar like they are breathing!
Saw Stanley Jordan live in Baltimore years ago. His set was outdoors and completely solo, and he did a mind-blowing cover of Stairway to Heaven. I have heard it on his albums, but never in a solo setting. Someday, before I die, I hope to experience it again. Beautiful.... just beautiful.
I have been aware of this supurb artists since he made a guest appearance in that Bruce Willis movie - "Blind date". Now that is going back a number of years, yet I still cannot fathom out how this genius does it. You are awesome Stanley, absolutely awesome.
For a moment since I could'nt place him,my mind kept thinking,no, that's stanley.....( thinking still) and finally I remembered!, stanley clarke, I was a fan of his guitar, playing also
A lot of people ran with this style but he set the standard and then some. Can't give this genius enough praise! The fact he pioneered this technique 20 years before anyone else and is still the best at it speaks volumes.
I remember watching concerts of this dude while i was in college on "laser discs" lol and absolutely not believing a "kid" (basically) was doing this on guitar. I guess he went through something major in his life. But now, although he's still 1 of the greatest ever, I feel a weird kind of pain for him when I watch his modern clips. God bless him.
Fantastic. Jordan is super gifted. Perhaps unmatched, despite those young upstarts like Eric Mongrain, Andy McKee or Macyn Taylor. Over 30 years ago, Stanley Jordan set a new standard few have been able to touch. Though Macyn Taylor looks to knocking on that door, as she is only 21(?)

vibing as a mode of existence was a condition I wasn't prepared to accept was possible. but it is.

gimmedap, Kenny G, a lot of his tracks sounded the same. just like Bruce Hornsby, and the range.
The guitar is truly the most amazing instrument of them all and if it wasn’t for TH-cam I wouldn’t get to see 99.9% of it. This guy is so far beyond a guitar player, he is the guitar, I think the guitar is playing him.
He is INCREDIBLY AMAZING. HE'S the ONLY musician that plays TWO guitars in different musical settings AT ONCE.
I've watched Stanley for years. I'm a guitarist, but his music makes me cry tears.🙏😪

Wow. You are the man who invented a double necked tap machine back in the day. YOu are amazing as well
Hes still got it. Also loved how quiet the audience was during the performance. Jazz fans everywhere exude class & style.
When I want your opinions, I'll give them to you

Isn't it meant to be "when I want your opinion I'll beat it out of you".
"hes still got it"? who do u think this is?
A musical genius.

just pure..Stanley is just one of those people that the music flows thru.

I loved this show and this episode in particular. Was bummed when it was canceled.
Saw him in 1995 opening for Michael Frank’s in Valley Forge PA. Amazing. Saw an interview with Stevie Ray Vaughan late 80’s and SRV said “He’s so good it’s not fair”.
Saw him in a tiny club in Rome in 2003. To this day, one of the most mind blowing concerts I've ever witnessed.

Truly...
I like the way he teases it and then responds like he's being thoroughly entertained by the instrument.
My dad and I saw him in Austin around 1997 he played an C octave bass. It was amazing
It's ridiculous that so many people are focused on the way he looks. It's sad how shallow some people can be. Stunningly amazing performance.
Yes, but i think, he looks nice!

Amazing just doesn't say enough.
Stanley Jordan Genius!!!
There’s a beautiful quote from The Wind Cries Mary at the end.
How does someone not like this?
How can one man have so much talent? One of my all time favorites! He never ceases to amaze!
Simply beautiful!
....and the hair's great too! LOL
The best guitarist on planet Earth!

Just discovering this guy. Holy crap. Just wow. 😮
Talk about a virtuoso.. This is impeccable.. I dare anyone to do what this man has done over the years.. No I double dog dare u.. ☺

This puts a tear in my eye. Good lord, this is beyond beautiful.
Real jazz player ✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌
Fascinating and exquisite, as always with Mr Jordan. Somewhere between jazz and classical, with a vibe that's very much his own.
I'm speechless!
... a class of its own! SALUT!
His touch is perfect. I love him.
GENIUS from a different planet...
Absolutely amazing performance, dear Stanley!
I remember watching his first HBO special back in the 1980s. Even then, you could just tell he was something extra special.
I have been aware of this supurb artists since he made a guest appearance in that Bruce Willis movie - "Blind date". Now that is going back a number of years, yet I still cannot fathom out how this genius does it. You are awesome Stanley, absolutely awesome.
Everything I hear this guy play, he does it better than anyone -- this track is pure magic
beautiful...just beautiful
Would you all believe that in a recent Rolling Stone Magazine's 'Top 100 Guitarists of All Time' he was NOT even listed?! Can you say 'Idiots!'???
That's what I mean! 'Who'!? Quincy Jones discovered him playing on the streets outside a studio, and the rest is history as they say!
Journalist in such fancy magazines are also fancy guys... They dont know what is real value...
I just found out myself. Better late than never.
There are thousands of great guitarists out there without good marketing teams. So they'll never make it on those lists.
the answer is in the question : .." Rolling Stones " magazine for shit readers !
Magic....
Amazing Stanley greetings from Argentina.
this is pure magic!
Simplesmente.. Lindo!! Esse nasceu com a Guitarra na mão...
Beautiful Man! Bravo! Gold!

He's amazing to see in concert. Saw him at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA.

Jazzy Piano Guitar. Bravo!
fabulous
Beautiful!
so beautiful
He's playing piano on guitar basically. I know of no one else that can play like this.
Not taking anything away from Stanley -pure genius-, but do check out 'Night of Change' here on TH-cam, by Ignazio Di Salvo.
A lot of people ran with this style but he set the standard and then some. Can't give this genius enough praise! The fact he pioneered this technique 20 years before anyone else and is still the best at it speaks volumes.
Challenge Charles Berthoud on bass :)

What do you mean no one else doing this? These days there are elementary school kids doing this stuff on TH-cam

He is and he was the best of all For me much better than anyone who played today this finger style He was unique
This complexity in his playing is amazing
he makes it look so so easy.
Mistrz
Love love love
His hands - he has guitar hands. I would like to know how many thousands of hours he has played to allow us to hear his soul when he plays.
Always great music. He was like Mozart with a guitar and now like Salieri.
eleganza e raffinatezza....unico secondo me .
Fantástico.
awesome
he touches the frets like piano keys...underrated, but he is a cut above the rest...
