- The Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) was a legendary British unit that operated deep behind enemy lines in the North African desert during World War 2.
Formed in 1940, the LRDG specialised in reconnaissance, sabotage, and hit and run tactics against axis troops, navigating the vast and unforgiving Great Sand Sea desert.
Using modified vehicles, they conducted daring raids, often surviving on minimal supplies, relying on their unmatched desert navigation skills.
SOE Expeds were honoured to follow in their footsteps across the Great Sand Sea, which stretches over 72,000 square km, covering parts of Libya and Egypt, making it one of the largest dune fields in the world.
The Great Sand Sea desert is one of the most remote places on Earth, and its isolation made it ideal for covert operations during WWII, offering cover and concealment for the LRDG. Come follow in their footsteps.
