From Protestant To Catholic To Really Catholic. My Conversion Story

  • I have been asked over the last few years to give my conversion story, which I've been reluctant to do. But recently someone emailed me, wanting me to give it, asking specifically how I came to know Catholicism is the true religion. So, I decided to go ahead and give my testimony.
This will probably be long, so I'm probably not going to worry about the visual so much, the focus will be more on the audio.
It will be long because, at least for me, joining the Catholic Church and becoming Catholic are 2 different things. In other words my conversion story doesn't end with my confirmation. That really was the beginning of a conversion to Catholicism that took years. In fact I would say its still ongoing.

I was anti-Catholic. Raised Protestant and became disaffected and left to agnosticism. One day I woke up after about 10 years of no church stirred by the spirit to go to the Catholic Church. I felt required almost. So I went the next day. That day they announced RCIA would begin the next day. Went through the program and at the end I still didn’t believe in the true presence in the Eucharist. So I prayed. I said God if you show me a Eucharistic miracle I’ll never leave this church and tell everyone how true it is. And, 3 weeks later, ON MY BIRTHDAY, March 5, 2022 the first Eucharistic miracle in the United States occurred. I now attend the Latin mass weekly and try to do confession weekly. The Catholic Church is the true church of God. If you ask with a pure heart God will answer you and testify to this.

This is inspiring. I didn’t become Roman Catholic. I became Orthodox, but I grew up Baptist and then Presbyterian. And the main thing they said about Catholics (and Orthodox) other than being “saved by works,”was the Eucharist being actual body and actual blood…i heard that is resacrificing Christ every Mass/Liturgy and all the rest of it. I heard it over and over. But for me…this was the thing that FORCED me to leave Protestantism…I became convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that the Church from the beginning taught this, and Jesus Himself taught this. This is was made me leave the church of my family. It was difficult.

Could you cite the miracle? I did not know there had been one in the US. I know of the other miracles around the world (have seen the One in Santarem). Is it the one the bishop ordered destroyed before it could be investigated?

This is my conversion story (the short version). All my grandparents were Catholic from Spain. They moved to Cuba. Many of their children lost their Catholic faith due to communism and the state sponsored shamanism. My Catholic parents (bit of a protestant mom) moved to the states with their toddlers, joined the Baptist and Pentecostal church. I got sick with cancer in my 20s. I started going to the Catholic church, my parents followed my example and now we all attend the Catholic church. I did my confirmation with my sister (was already baptized Catholic as babies). My parents had already done theirs in Cuba. They had gotten married in the Catholic church in Cuba. They lost their Catholic faith in the states but God has led them back to the Catholic church. I didn't really know what the Catholic church was like when I first joined. I was taught by the protestant churches that Catholics are not Christian and the Vatican is evil. But I went back because while I was sick at the hospital, I watched a EWTN Mass (the other Christian channels were busy selling books) and I saw it was not evil and decided I needed the peace and blessing of a Catholic Mass. The other churches were not doing it for me anymore. They were too much about health and prosperity. I started craving to have communion with a passion. I'm glad the Lord has led us all into the Catholic church once again.

Mine is similar. My family that immigrated to the US was Catholic from Hungary. The faith in the family changed. My great grandparents were the change. They became protestant. Baptist to be specific with a mix of calvinism. I was taught by the line of my family that catholicism was wrong. Then I met my now fiancee who is Catholic. When we first talked about it I was so persistent to prove her wrong, it was causing a problem. I then worked through my objections with sincere research and I am now on the fence to conversion. I attended mass and since then I have felt this pulling in my heart. It is like something I have never experienced. Pray for me and my perseverance, discernment, and send prayer to my new ministry rooted in apologetics. Thank you.

Oh my! I was a very fallen away Catholic-turned-pagan, and when I finally surrendered myself back to God and expressed a desire to have a community, He said GO TO CHURCH!!! After a month or so of the constant badgering by the Holy Spirit and my guardian angel to GO TO CHURCH!, I finally said fine and asked if I could go to some funky bible church, sing songs, listen to a sermon and have fellowshiping. He said NO! CATHOLIC CHURCH!! I finally surrendered to that and returned to the Catholic Church. Best thing I've ever done! I enjoyed your video very much. When I returned to the Church after 50 years away, I had completely forgotten about why I had left in the first place, which was the institution of the New Mass. I came back to something entirely unrecognizable, and was appalled at what I had been taught was sacrilege - the touching of the Precious Body by unconsecrated hands! But I thought that was just how it was and I was stuck with it, but I bucked up my courage and started receiving on the tongue, kneeling on the exposed aggregate floor of the church. Then I discovered there were actual Traditional Latin Masses in the area and tentatively tried it out. I got hooked. Gregorian chant, sacred polyphony, all the smells and bells, altar boys/men (no girls!), people dressing appropriately, the air of reverence and respect, it was all there. I finally found my home.

He saw alot of Precious Holy blood, and my spouse asked, what am I supposed to do with it...? Make a sign of the cross with it? Eat it?
So in the meditation, my spouse chose to ingest the blood of Christ.
Afterwards, he asked me... is that the true eucharist?!

If you think Jesus cares about what church you attend then you do not know Jesus. Being a Christian is not going to church, any church. It is a personal relationship with Him. We are to live for Him. I can pray directly to Him and get them answered without going to anyone else. I do not need a priest to ask for my sins to be forgiven. If you want to be Catholic that is fine. But it is a lie to think your wife needs to go.

I enjoyed this story! I was raised Evangelical Protestant and originally never considered becoming Catholic. That changed last year, when I began investigating who the original Christians were. I looked into Eastern Orthodoxy for a while and even went to a vesper at a local Orthodox church. Later, I also discovered some the defenses for Catholicism being the original church, such as Matthew 16:18. The thing that ultimately ended up converting me to Catholicism was the Our Lady apparition in Lourdes. Specifically when Mary told St. Bernadette, "I am the Immaculate Conception", as this is a doctrine rejected in both Protestantism and Orthodoxy. And the many miracles in Lourdes prove the apparation to be true. Now, I am currently in the process of converting and I am excited to take RCIA classes at my local cathedral this summer! I'm thinking of attending a Byzantine Rite church as soon as I convert. The Latin Mass is nice and all, but there is just something so majestic about the Byzantine Rite.

I visited our Lady of Lourdes last year and only planned to stay for one night, but our blessed mother organised that we would stay for two nights and I am so grateful that she did. My wife and I participated in the procession, we went to mass and received our Lords body and blood, I washed in the holy water of Lourdes and recited the rosary before the Grotto. I can’t tell you how happy we were. If someone told me that I would experience such things in the past I would laugh at them. But with God nothing is impossible. I had the same experience of being oppressed by demons and desperately looking for deliverance prayers.
The prayers were effective and that encouraged me to read some Catholic books and listen to Catholic podcasts.
I was raised Protestant but in a denomination that had become very progressive and indifferent. I didn't have any anti-Catholic sentiments, rather I thought that any spiritual path could be a path to God.
That's how, in my adult life, I had strayed away from Christianity and was heavily dabbling in new age and pagan nature religions. No wonder demons had been oppressing me.
After I learned the effectiveness of the Catholic deliverance prayers, Mary made herself known to me. I have a firm belief that it was she who was protecting me and leading me to the truth.
I believe that although the church of my birth was severely deficient, my valid infant baptism had put that indelible mark on my soul. Mary knew I was one of God's children and she had the heart to save me.
When I learned about Fatima, I was blown away. I do not know why the modern Church does not talk more about miracles. When I learned about Eucharistic miracles I was blown away.
I discerned the Catholic faith for 4 years before I approached a parish for RCIA. I'm Canadian and our churches were closed for 2 years during that time. This country's leader went overboard with power grabs and restrictions during the C19 era.
so by that time, I had read enough and listened enough to know that what I received in RCIA was watered down and sometimes heretical. The older women who ran our RCIA would openly dispute the catechism in front of us. They would argue for female ordination and the like.
How I wished to be catechized by a traditional priest or an old-school nun.
The Church hierarchy needs to realize that people are hungry for the faith. The real faith, the deep faith, all of its doctrines, all of its history, all of its traditions. Peter, feed your sheep.

      @miracles_metanoia 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

Wow! I had a similar testimony, coming to traditional catholicism during canadian lockdowns. I had good catechism luckily, and binge watched ALOT of catholic answers, apologetics, etc.
Have you considering writing a note (anonymous) to priest or bishop about how the rcia lady encouraged heretical beliefs?

    • @Paule_LMS
      @Paule_LMS 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

@@miracles_metanoia I actually have thought about writing a letter to our bishop. I don't know a lot about him except that he suspended priests in my diocese who chose not to get vaxxed. They are all back to work now and that is when the churches were closed anyway, but it has left me with the idea that he and I wouldn't see eye to eye on much.
I was also very disappointed that RCIA lady wouldn't let us choose a confirmation saint either. Her reasoning was "We don't do that anymore. It's disrespectful to your parents and the name they chose for you".
She smacked down anything traditional. She has had a bit of an attitude toward me because she knew I was attending the Tridentine Mass.
The bishop has made it so that the Tridentine community is not allowed to have their own RCIA and so I had to attend it with her.
I did my time and am grateful to be in the Church now but I do worry about those who do not have the time to do as much catechesis on their own.

Hope you can find a nice little old church with a regular priest and congregation not a woke one. My whole country of Canada is like this. I am in one of the better churches here. It's historically important so the high altar and altar rails and everything are intact. They are just not used. Because it's the people that make a place holy or not. Many places in Canada have abandoned their parishes altogether. The Church is despised here. At least at my parish, people still show up but our culture is so secular now, that people take on beliefs that are from the world, without even realizing it.

Just remember that JESUS told Peter and the apostles that HE would be with the Church until the end of time and that hell would not prevail against her. He gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven even though Peter denied him 3 times. Perfect it is not but HE is. Trust JESUS'S decisions and stick to your Faith just as JESUS sticks with you through all of your failings. Doubt is one of Satan's best weapons to divide and conquer.

I truly enjoy your program. I went through certain circumstances very similar. Was really contemplating becoming a Muslim but that’ll change I didn’t go to a parochial school, and to my surprise, the teacher we had originally from Mexico made a drawing of a tree with roots. You probably can see where I’m going with this and yes. That was the beginning. I’m an avid fan of history. And my mother and father were nominal Catholics I would talk to my father more than my mother about the faith. And he would give me some insight and especially about the family coming from France 350 years ago that really gave me more of a substantial push so I did eventually get baptized since I wasn’t as an infant in the local Novus ordo Catholic Church. I move back 20 years afterward to Manitoba Canada. And after a year I found the SSPX in Saint Boniface Manitoba, where I was born. I attended that parish and we have since moved to another area of the city and I’ve been with them for 35 years. And I do have friends who are of different faiths and I do try to evangelize. I truly enjoy your program. God bless to you and to your family and by the way, I will keep you in my rosary.

I’m a Catholic mother from Africa. Do I understand correctly that when it is said ‘really Catholic’ it means attending the Latin Mass. My heart breaks. Do you people not realise how schismatic and prideful you sound by denigrating the novus ordo Mass? Do you accept that the same miracle of the Eucharist occurs at every Mass, even if it was celebrated in a desert. One person below talks about leaving the Church for a really long time, because of Vatican 2 and returning because the Latin Mass was available. So very proud of the fact that he/she frankly got his way and possibly missed thousands of opportunities to receive Jesus, body, blood, soul and divinity, until such time when things were the way he/she wanted it. May God have mercy on you ALL. I pray that God will remove the blinkers of sinful pride from your eyes. The sad thing is, I love attending Holy Mass, as all Catholics should, any Mass, any language etc - why, because Jesus is present. How dare you prideful hypocrites think that you can dictate how and when God presents himself.

@@pathue1196 no, it would be such a pity if any rite is ‘banned’. What has to change are people’s attitudes. How does one do that though, from the outside? It’s so easy to slip into a ‘holier’, ‘more than and less than’, better’ almost pharasaical mindset. We all have to guard against that, because when it becomes a belief, that is where the Devil has stepped in. We see disunity, disobedience. And it also goes without saying that countries/churches who are taking liberties, claiming the pope says it’s okay, have to be addressed as well.

I was looking through some closet/drawer when I came across an old Bible. I decided to flip a page open and see if I could get a sign cause I was tired of life. The chapter I landed upon was 2Peter2, a terrible warning for people like me. There was one verse of hope in the whole chapter I believe, 'God relieves the Godly from temptation'. I realized that's my problem, temptation. So, I did Godly things that day and a new light came into my life. Within one week including an epic visit to confession, I was a new man. I have been a devout Catholic ever since. I still fall off the wagon now and again but I always come back to my Mother Church, the Catholic Church 🙂

From Pacha-mama, praising French abortionist/politician, inviting his gay friend together with his lover in Vatican without calling for their repentance and turning away from their degenerate union to inviting active transexuals with their partners to have a meal with them to the blessing of homosexual couples and a lot more would signal that this pope is not the pope our lord Jesus had in mind. Reading the gospel of John from beginning to end as well as volume 1 of the Faith of the Early Fathers convinced me that the Catholic church was the one true Church for Christians. I also watched a lot of videos and read books from Scott Hahn which further solidified my confidence in the Catholic Church. It's also important to recognize that one of the 12 apostles that lived with Jesus and witnessed all of his good works, teachings, and miracles betrayed him. That the leader of the 12 apostles Peter denied he was a follower of Christ 3 times before the rooster crowed, but later was martyred for his faith while in charge of the Catholic church in Rome. That another of the 12 apostles didn't have the faith to believe Jesus had resurrected until he could see the wounds from the crucification. There will always be sinners within the Catholic Church because of human nature and free will. Just like there will always be sinners within the Protestant churches which have numerous heinous crimes and sins like supporting abortion, contraceptives, divorce and remarrying, co-habitation before marriage and LGBTQ immoral lifestyles and marriage. Once I realized that no lay Christians personally owned a bible until well after the printing press was invented in the middle of the 15th century, and that the Catholic Church determined which books would be canonized and included in the New Testament.....I realized that Sola Scriptura was utter nonsense and Protestants had been duped. .

What I love is how you prayed on it, and asked God to guide you on many things. This way, you are acting in accordance to his will and not our own selfish narrative.
I consider myself a Catholic apologetic and your particular way you defend the faith is beautiful and very inspiring.
It is SO true that converts back to the faith are often the most faithful devout and incredible examples of our faith. Thank you for that.
I would love to one day join the spiritual front line with you and be side by side defending our blessed Lord, our blessed Mother and our faith.
In the name of the Father, the son and the Holy spirit.
    🙏🏼⚔️
    Amen

Hi, thank you for your conversion story and believe me, your conversion since becoming Catholic still ongoing. God use history to speak to me at various points in my life. I used to be Calvinist not entirely strict one like some of other Calvinists are. I left Calvinism behind when local churches of PCA in Atlanta started to adopt some of Revoice ideology especially term gay Christian. Even through PCA refuted Revoice ideology but I know I cannot return to it. Since Covid crisis in 2020 I started reading up on Catholicism and church history. I prayed rosary some. I did attend rcia at parish nearby but it’s run by Jesuits who loved James Martin and its director said he disagreed with conservative theology of Catholic Church. So I left that parish but like you, I educated myself on history and doctrines of Catholic Church. Lady of Guadalupe proved to me to be biblical dogma of Blessed Virgin Mary. I guess I am unofficially Catholic but I need to find good tradition conservative parish in Atlanta that don’t harp on about James Martin. I have mild cp and hearing impairment so I can’t drive. I get my income from SSA. Hopefully I find a good parish somewhere. My Protestant friends want me to come back to church, I said not Protestant ones since I don’t have peace and my friend a Calvinist felt that I was throwing PCA and Calvin under the bus. I could explain to him because of anti Catholic blinders and arrogant and prideful attitude he have about Calvinism. I will conquer to read and study and pray. Thank you again.

Great story, but I was surprised to learn it took you so long to figure it out even after you actually became Catholic. My total conversion came after years of clinging to the very liberal episcopal church, with stopping off now and then with the mormon church, and even a baptist church. But when the Washington DC gay mens choir showed up at my old episcopal church to sing and celebrate their lifestyle, it finally dawned on me something was very wrong. My RCIA teacher insisted on one on one instruction and he answered all of my questions. Great videos. Keep ‘‘em coming. Thanks.

I was raised Catholic and I've been reading the bible since elementary school and still believe the Catholic Church is the one true church because in John Jesus says those who eat the flesh and drink his blood will have eternal life. For my flesh is true food and my blood true drink. He didn't say it was a symbol as protestants would claim

Really great video. I have a oddball question for you. How would you suggest dealing with somebody who is a fellow Catholic, but so spiritually prideful that they are actually off-putting toward others...? For instance, I'm trying help along a Catholic who wasn't well catechized in his understanding, and here comes your friend who uses his knowledge to brow beat the other person so much that they are put off by him, and eventually sort of scared away. I am put off by fellow Catholics, not just Protestants who are so prideful that they have an uncharitable demeanor about themselves.

Thanks for your testimony. I'll share a brief of mine.
Cradle Catholic cause of mom, had my frustrations and in my pride I left the Church. Heck, I didn't even knew there were Mass in Latin.
Been atheist most of my life before undergoing a spiritual journey through false religions. But then I find myself desperate and miserable as I'm unable to deal with my inner demons for almost a decade I finally suck up and start hopelessly praying to God (the Father) and no answers. A year or two later, I finally ask for Jesus and I get instantaneously cured.
I still had trouble in understanding the Holy Trinity so I thought protestants were better at knowing Jesus since they keep yelling His name over and over and their intentions seemed genuine.
But alas, I was wrong, their hatred towards Our Mother Mary and the Apostolic succession only the True Church possesses made me see through the cracks.
So now I'm back home, still learning though.

    I’m from Sydney Australia.
I’m Protestant but seeking the true church that best reflects the biblical teachings of the apostles.
I visited my local Catholic Church to observe.
I noticed the consecrated wine was not given, only the bread was. I made an enquiry into this and was told that the wine is mostly not given in Catholic Churches and that only one element is necessary (bread) to receive the fullness of Christ.
    Is this correct?
    Is this from Vatican II?
I’d appreciate a solid answer on this.
    Thank you 🙏

The main reason that the wine is not given at some Catholic Church is because of Covid, Flu, and Colds. At our church, wine is given only to people who really want it and the end of the line. The Eucharist Host is whole Christ and not half of. So, wine is not needed. The Transfiguration happens in the Eucharist Host.

When "the warning" takes place, everyone on earth will have a chance to repent for their sins, and everyone on earth will understand the importance of the Catholic Church as it relates to Jesus Christ... There will be no confusion about this. For those who have thoroughly confessed their sins to an Apostolic priest, prior to this event, you will experience nowhere near the humiliation of those who have never confessed their sins (to a priest) or who have omitted sins from their previous confessions. The reason you are to confess your sins to an Apostolic priest, and not God Himself, is because none of us are worthy enough to go directly to God with our sins. When you see your life review (during "the warning") you will understand this very clearly. For those of us who have experienced near death, like myself, we know how uncomfortable it is. You will see things replayed from your life that even you did not remember. For all those Protestants who think that all of their sins were already forgiven, you are in for a world of hurt, especially regarding fornication, failing to help those people you could have helped, and hurting others. God has a recording of all of it, and you will have to watch it in His presence. As for Catholics who never go to confession, or who avoid confessing all their mortal sins, you will also be in for a very difficult life review. If you don't believe that "the warning" will actually occur, you have nothing to worry about, unless, of course, you're wrong. My suggestion to everyone is to wise-up and prepare yourselves accordingly. Arguing with me will be of no benefit to you. Whatever the truth is, you will know it soon.

I’m a 5th generation Catholic. From childhood to teenage years I went to church and was a devout Catholic. 20 to late 20s I rebelled and started listening to people like Jordan Maxwell and Michael Tsarrion and Allan Watts. They all talked about how bad the Catholic Church was and it’s all stars and sun worship. After years I realize it was not self worship new age stuff. 30 to late 30s I went the Protestant route but after years I just can’t agree with the “ by faith alone “. I’m 40 now and I must say these videos really help me understand the history of being Catholic more. My mom has always said that we are the original church and they all broke off from us. Now I understand. Thank you for your work sir.

One thing that you said resonated with me, which is the fact that God has to despise abortion. The fact that Christ comes as a thieve in the night, and each Catholic should be - as an adult - ready at any time to be put in front of God's tribunal doesn't change the fact that children dying in their mother's womb has no possibility of receiving the only safeguard available, and the only way to join the God's Church: one Baptism in water.
From Canons and Decrees of the Council of Trent/Session V/Original Sin:
"3. If any one asserts that this sin of Adam, which in its origin is one, and being transfused into all by propagation, not by imitation, is in each one as his own, is taken away either by the powers of human nature, or by any other remedy than the merit of the one mediator, our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath reconciled us to God in his own blood, made unto us righteousness, sanctification, and redemption; or, if he denies that the same merit of Jesus Christ is applied, both to adults and to infants, by the sacrament of baptism rightly administered in the form of the Church; let him be anathema: For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must he saved. Whence that voice: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who taketh away the sins of the world; and that other,-As many of you as have been baptized have put on Christ".
This is the faith of the Church, that merit of Jesus Christ (righteousness, sanctification, and redemption) is applied to adults, and infants alike by the sacrament of baptism, rightly administered in the form (rite) of the Church, which is by water, and maintaining essential form:
N., I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
