    It is very nice that you allowed for a tall crawl space, so that, a person has room to work and move around without pulling themselves around on their bellies. Nice designing. I have been under a lot of houses in my day and most are a bear to work under. Tradesmen in the future, will love you for the room. Art in CA

    Nice job with the black pipe. My son and family live in Boquete, Panama and has a commercial kitchen operation from his home supplying pre- cooked and frozen meals for ex pats living there he has a big 6 burner Viking stove running on propane. He put a header after the regulator that connects 6 tanks. He keeps 3 open & 3 closed. Propane in bbq tanks costs $3 to fill up down there, but if delivered to a large tank, it’s $2.50 a gallon.

    If the batteries are dead, then use matches like a good old stove, that's Cool. I never heard of that your stove come with batteries. That's also so cool!

    So glad you didn't go with a propane refrigerator. They use pressurized hydrogen gas to make the ammonia re-absorb into the water. As an RV technician I have seen half a dozen RV's that burned to the frame from fires started by practically new propane refrigerators. They are not a safe option and for the cost difference you can more than add the necessary solar capacity.

    You should leak test the entire gas line to be sure no leaks. The elbow to the regulator should of been a Tee fitting to install a 3"Dropper pipe and plug for water or dirt in the line also it balance the gas ratio Almost all gas lines have these installed at the regulator gas hot water connection and furnace to bring it to code. Oh when u were turning the elbow combination valve You should of had a pipe wrench on the pipe leaving the home in case it doesnt move Everytime u make a connection to anything always put a pipe wrench to stabilize the pipe from moving. Safety first always. Great Video. God bless be safe. Jim

    We spook previously of a "Conditioned Crawl Space". Recently you showed how you have covered the shuttle hole to keep the cold from being drawn out the roof, and now you have covered up the ground under the house. The additional PV panels might lead to enough power for a Heat Recovery Ventalation(HRV). Closing up those rim vents would help address several issues. If you want local and national resources that will support a decision let me know. Be Blessed

    good move with the future tees, i never use ells when i plumb. it may cost a little more but is so nice to drop back and punt when you need to tap in. previous idea suggested using valves instead of plugs; i do not agree. valves are costly, are easily bumped and leak and you still have to use plugs for safety. it is no problem to remove a plug and take off with a tap line. i also never use black iron pipe either, btw..........g

    Nice job . Thanks for the links . That's a nice stove . Did you have to convert the stove from natural gas to propane ? Just a thought , I would have put a regulator like RV's have . This way you could hook up 2 tanks . When one runs out it automatically will switch over to the other tank . Regulator will show if it has switched from one tank to the other . This way you don't get a surprise when one tank empties . I got a long hose hooked up on my RV . Had to get a BBQ place who had a licensed pipe fitter to make it up for me . This way I can hook up a 40lb or 100 lb tank on the outside of the RV . RV only has room for a 30lb tank . I guess eventually you'll get a much larger tank installed on the property . This way you can have a propane furnce as a backup if you'll be gone for a few days .

  • @terrylpeterson5480

    You should use some pipe Unions along the way as you may need to take something apart in the future, if somewhere along your gas pipe run you need to repair the pipe, or add something new, (even with your taps) you would have to disassemble it from the starting point.

    Are you having any problem with the small 20 lb tank freezing up? Usually full-time RVers will have to switch to a 100 lb tank in the winter because the 20 lb tanks freeze up.

    Keeping the tank off the ground and putting isolation around it prevents your propane from freezing.
    Better yet, build a small insulated shed for it.Btw propane gives less performance at high altitude...

    37 year career with natural gas/propane appliances. The BTU rating in every “gas” appliance dictates how much gas it may use at maximum load. If you’re cooking with the oven and several top burners, and the water heater comes on, the size of piping/connectors may not allow your appliances to heat/cook like they are designed to. I suggest you do this test - turn all the burners and oven on - then, while you are watching the flames there, have someone turn the hot water on. If the flames at the stove shrink, 1 or both of your appliances may have too small a connector installed. Worst case, the 1/2” black pipe s/b 3/4”, or the pressure from the regs you installed is too low. All “gas” appliances work better and heat faster when their supply lines are providing them ALL the gas they need when they are on at the same time! Adding any appliance may alter this dynamic. Also, running a pressure test, even for your own peace of mind insures that there are no defects in all that “new” steel - a not-unheard-of anomaly. Excellent work, however! I rejoice with you and the fam in your new kitchen! God bless you all!

    i have a question, and a suggestion. i heard somewhere that they added a strange smell to the propane, so you can tell right away that you have a leak. is that true ?. then, if your inspector is going to lok to see if you used the yellow pipe dope, i would of used it on the two compression fittings behind the stove. for two connections, i think it is worth doing it. other then that, good job

    Excess flow valve is the name. You could put a small dab of WD 40 on the flare ends of your flex and it will seal the connections better. Looks pretty cool. Who converted it to LP?

  • @NotOnYourLife
    @NotOnYourLife 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Martin, you really should use a gas flex hose of at least 5/8" for an oven and 3/4 pipe all the way to the shut off valve. That 1/2" one will not carry the volume needed correctly, it was made for the much smaller burner of a water heater, not an oven. The build is looking great!

    • @joekemp8625
      @joekemp8625 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To add on to this, made for the smaller burner of a tank water heater. Many tankless water heaters push 200K BTU ratings. That said, a 200K BTU water heater just doesn't seem right for an off grid situation, so I doubt they have one.

  • @TheUserid82
    @TheUserid82 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You want to check every joint on the pipe but you probably did that off camera.
    Pickup a simple luggage scale to weigh the propane bottles when still connected to the hose for an idea of how much you have left in them. You will quickly get an idea of how much you have left based off weight as you use it. Exchange places only fill the bottles to 75% due to the need of room in them for transport and elevation changes so take that into account for how long it will last
    Install eye screws into the wall next to the gas bottles so you can use a strap to hold them in place

    I don't know what he was filming all but what I saw its a bit dangerous. Normally you do a pressure test and aa leak test at least on all connections. Pressure test 24h by 2.5 times the working pressure and not with gas..! Gas pressure regulator outside and not protected for damage or the elements? Ok, maybe he will do that later...

    You left off a VERY important step in your gas pipe install. You should have pressurized the line with air first to insure there was no pressure drop. While air pressurizing, use your soapy water and spray EVERY threaded connection. This is a DANGEROUS video that is a how not to. Hire a pro or learn to do it right. Gas and electric must be done correctly without skipping steps. It looks like you got all the right gas hardware, but you simply missed a vital step at the end.

    How is using propane considered off grid? Propane is definitely tied to a "grid" system, one has to continually have it filled. A wood stove is the only true off grid cooking system.

    • @HospitalLocksmith
      @HospitalLocksmith 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Off Grid refers primarily to not being on the electric grid, but can apply equally to being off primary public grids, weather its Electric, water, or Gas. Feel free to live how you want and Keep Smiling while you do it!

    • @et5222
      @et5222 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only if you hand saw and axe split the wood ? : ) Propane means you are not on the natural gas "grid" getting a monthly gas bill (or a water bill, or an electricity bill). I guess the only "on grid" bill the Martin's will have is monthly phone/internet/maybe satellite TV?
