Mate been watching you for a little over a year and can say honestly that you are the one youtuber that I wait for his next video the most to watch. Your honest straight forward, and a damn good good photographer. I'm not a Canon shooter, so not on here for what you use, but rather here for your honesty on method of photography style. So keep on doing what your doing and dont try to imitate the others.
Dear friend, your videos are always inspiration to me. I started watching your videos more then 1 year now and it was because you i started astrophotography with my S23 ultra in Portugal and now more recently with wildlife photography with my Canon R7 with Canon RF 100-400mm. Its so rewarding and relaxing to go outside and just enjoy nature. I was having a lot of anxiety and now its controlled. This is the best terapy and please keep doing what you love because that is what makes a difference for me and for all of us. Your honesty is gold and thats how we connect. Love you bro and love your work.
Thanks for your TH-cam videos. Love your photos and reviews. Keep on going. Your content has helped me look at things I photograph differently and with a newer perspective
Love your content as you do it. You're very personable, and you help me realize what's great around me, and I need to get out more. Keep doing what you do!
Your fence lizard is a Southwestern Fence Lizard, Sceloporus cowlesi. I wouldn't be in any rush to review the R5ii. I find the so called "reviews" done after only a short period of use to be pretty worthless. I'd much rather see a review by someone who has used the camera long enough to know what works and what doesn't.
Hey thanks for the lizard confirmation! I've definitely decided that rushing just isn't going to help me or the audience, so I think I'll try to mellow out a bit. lol. Though I do have a lot of trips coming up and am looking forward to putting it to good use and showing you guys.
Lovely set of images and the timelapses are amazing, Glad to see that you can spiral down you're mind with the outdoors, Nature is amazing for mental health and love the style of shots and video. 🥳🥳
Totally agree about the therapeutic aspect of photography; just getting out and seeing helps refocus the mind outside of oneself and one's stresses. Those are some real sweet lightning shots/clips at the end, too! 👍
Great video. Please make time for yourself, to regroup and recharge. I appreciate the hard work you put into all your work. I being a veteran myself with health issues as well appreciate where you are coming from. Photography is my therapy and my get away from the daily grind. Keep doing what you are doing and thank you for all you do.
Hi Brent glad you distressed, being out doing what you love with the ones you love will always do that for you. You and camera lady do great work, always. First, second or last isn’t what gets your audience coming back it’s the quality of the work, that you have. Don’t stress ‘The little things’ remember, everything is a ‘little thing’ unless you make it different. Take care. Phil
Dude I feel you on the knee and back problems. It's a spirit killer when the broken bodies keep us away from the best medicine we know. I appreciate your content and I think it's best when you're following your gut for the day. As far as reviews go I think it's always best when you're talking about gear that you're familiar with, and that you really appreciate because it's made a genuine impact for you. Hearing you talk about that RF 100-400 is a great example. I bought it because of your opinion and others who agreed that it's an incredible lens to have on you at all times, especially when the big lenses don't make situational sense but you don't want to miss a chance if you spot a critter or something special happens. And you were right! That advice has paid off and I love keeping that lens in the truck or in the bag. I can fit it in a fanny pack! Cheers to you Brent, keep after that medicine and feel better.
Yeah, broken bodies suck, lol. But I'm really glad to hear you're enjoying the RF 1-4. I still love mine. Nothing beats it for price, size and weight. There's just no reason for me to not have it in the bag at all times.
Please don't compare yourself to other people, I love the way you shoot your videos and use your photography as a mental de-stress. After working 23 years in the prison service I do the same with my photography and also find your videos very relaxing knowledgeable and helpful.
Thx for your Video 👍 I have one question about the settings. May be someone can help me. Got my R5 II last week. I know i can change to the custom setting with the mode button. But its not fast enough at least for me. I want to set up a single button that uses 30 picture/sec, eye detection, a spezific shutter speed. Purpose: unexpected action happens and i am quickly rdy for that. Is this possible and have someone a link for a video what explains/shows that?
I haven't even finished this video but as one dedicated viewer I wait until you review a product to be informed. You once said and I know it is not your quote but it really has stuck with me " Comparison is the killer of Joy!" I only follow a couple Canon users and I look forward to your videos for information. You are right, it's really about getting you out with nature and finding the beauty in things. Your content is very unique, keep it coming!!!
Yeah, "Comparison is the thief of joy" (Twain) is definitely something I try to live by and always stay aware of, but it's also something that I deeply struggle with sometimes. Sometimes I find it very hard to not compare myself to other TH-camrs and pro photographers, and that usually just ends up really bringing me down for a bit. Being out in the desert, relaxing, watching the clouds go by, chasing wildlife, and taking photos really help me though.
I totally relate to the broken body part… I have been dealing with severe knee swelling issues for 4 months now (at 40y) which has made getting out to photograph wildlife impossible and I am looking for ways to still take some shots but it is so hard and frustrating. Currently doing a bit of macrophotography in my garden, but that’s it…
Excellent video in beautiful habitat.I enjoy hearing about gear, but don't care about all of the reviewers getting the reviews out as fast as possible. Your comments on gear are honest and that is what is what is meaningful.
To be honest I do watch other reviews of the new Canon R5 II but there are only a few people I really listen too, but you are one of the people that I do take note of what they say, so don't beat your self up about getting the latest videos out - concentrate on what you do and that's producing good content. 🙂
Thanks for the great video on the R52. We may watch others R52 reviews, but subscribe to your channel. There are a lot of reviews specific to different genres, so I’m here because you present what I like to do or strive to do. Also, in the last two weeks I have switched off so many videos because they rushed their videos. Folks will be buying the R52 for years, and they will need quality videos like yours.
Thanks John, that means a lot! I'll definitely have no shortage of R5II videos to come in the future, that's for sure. 😁 Afterall, it going to be my main camera moving forward.
I can´t speak for others, but I don´t care AT ALL about you being early with a review or not! I follow your channel for your calm, relaxed way of casually bringing us along on your photo trips. And of course to see your photos and videos :) Sure, it is nice to get your perspective on the gear you use. But I more enjoy seeing your view on for example small accessories, backpacks or tripods. So just relax, enjoy your photography and bring us with you. But I know how easy it is to get pulled into that "how to get more viewers"-loop. Especially since my photo vlogs get around 100 views and a quick backpack review I did has several thousand views... but I´ve decided that I have to do what I like to do. And so should you. Because, as I mentioned, that´s probably what got most of us here in the first place.
Yeah, it's even easier to get pulled into the "views matter" mentality when it's your only job, because then all that little stuff, like views, thumbnails, titles, etc., they all really start to matter if you want to be able to keep feeding your family. Trying to find a balance of what videos will do well vs what videos I just want to make for me is definitely tricky right now.
literally hate your channel.🤬 just traded my RF100-400 in and bought the RF100-500 L. now i need to explain my wife why i painted my cheap lens white and make it appear bigger. so worth it! my god this thing is sharp. love the new lens thanks for making me poor brent. talking about hot... we got 40C° here every day and 95% humid. i cant even leave the car so every day i drive in my park to see if i can catch a bird or two from rolling window down. the second i hold the lens out everything goes foggy.
😅😂😂🫠 Damn, that's hot, and the humidity is horrible! I definitely don't miss living in those kinds of places. Sorry to hear about your lens and wife troubles...😅😂😜
Brent, I will get the R5 II just right before the R5 III is released, and it will be used. In fact, I just got the R5 last November (used) and I took some pretty awesome shots with it this weekend. For my interests, I would rather you focus on the photography experience and not the gear so much. Gear is like a drug and the high only lasts a minute and you quickly need another fix. I'm sure you watch Gavin Hardcastle's channel. He has great gear but never really talks about it. Its always just about the photography (and shenanigans). I'm convinced the guy could take award winning shots with a point and shoot. I've always seen your channel as a "how to get the shot" channel in a sort of vulnerable, self-deprecating way. Take us to more locations, and let us go on your photography journey with you. I don't really care what camera you use. You ever watch Nick Carver's stuff?
Brent, it's the photography that's important, not just the gear. I have and R5 and don't intend to upgrade with the R5II anytime soon or maybe never. If you review many if not most of the images you've taken and posted before the R5II, I don't know what level of improvement you expect.
Yeah, I understand that, but from a business standpoint (and this is my only job) gear does matter, and gear videos do help quite a lot. Not saying I want obsess over and only do gear videos, but that the help, and I do actually enjoy talking about gear as well, especially when its new and relevant. I definitely also understand that you and a lot of other people don't need or want to upgrade, and of course that's totally cool. In fact, I really think that the R5 is now the best value canon camera out there now. Personally, I don't expect any sort of improvement from the R5II with my own photography. I got it because I wanted it, and it's a nice upgrade to what I had, though I know it won't do anything completely mind-blowing for me. I'm just happy to have it and share the things I do with it, and maybe help some people along the way. Staying relevant and continuing to grow my channel are also sort of necessary perks that come along with getting and talking about new gear. But you're a subscriber, so hopefully you know that gear talk isn't the only thing I do, and enjoy it all. I mean, I'm also one of the only people out here telling people it's okay to use a phone for photography too. 😜 Anyways, for me too, new gear is also a great excuse to get out and do more actual photography, and I've got plenty of that planned, so I'm looking forward to it.
@@BrentHall Thanks Brent, I understand your business needs. Your images are already stunning so I don't know how they can get even better. On the R5 II, if it allows you to produce 20%-40% more keepers due to the faster sensor and improved autofocus, I can see the argument for an upgrade.
Brent, I love your work. I'm not a photographer but you inspire me to be one, one day. I may not be able to capture time in a bottle but I can through a lens.
Don't rush camera review videos. Far too many youtube camera reviews are rushed just to get it out first. That leads to a mediocre review that is not of much use to watch. Wait until you have used the lens long enough to give a more detailed review, discover the quirks, and learned to optimize the camera. I think you would get more people watching a detailed review when you have used the lens for a longer time. Thanks for commenting on the Peak Design camera bag.
Yeah, I definitely don't want to rush reviews, and in this case, I don't even want to do a review yet. I just want to go out and use it and film whatever I'm doing with it at the time for you guys. So hopefully that'll be enough for now. 🫡
My situation is I want to bay me an R5 but which is Not decide yet, so yes I look for R5 mark 2 content to be sure I get the right one, but I make not a decision with only one video, and yes I have seen the video of Peter McKinnon, but he is nota wildlife fotografier so for me is mor imported who I trust and not who is first, and by the way he is in my list much under you, thanks for your contend, and sorry for my english
You’re a very talented photographer, no question about it. As for the videos, constructively speaking, you need to tighten the storyboard. This could have been an 8-10 minute video without the rambling, which is a hallmark of you (lol). I would try a draft a true outline, shoot shorter clips to emphasize your points and edit it accordingly. You’ll get your message across, your photos will stand out and the videos will be more efficient. None of this will take away from your talent and personality shining through. Something to consider, again, offered constructively to help your channel grow. IMO. All the best,
Thanks for your honesty. Bruised ego and hidden struggles aside, I appreciate it. You're certainly not the first person to tell me I talk too much. Sometimes I really try to curb it, and sometimes I forget. I have just gone into the YT editor and tried to trim it down a bit and cut out some of those longer drole talking bits in the beginning. That's all I can do without taking the video down though, which I don't want to do for just 2 negative comments. Hopefully it'll help a little though. I've been struggling a lot lately, behind the scenes, with both work and personal stuff, and it's definitely affecting my recent work and I'm sorry for that. I know some would be quick to say, "just take a break and get help or get yourself better" or whatever, but that's easier said than done. This is my only job and most of the time, especially in the summer when YT as a whole is just downward trending, I can't always afford to take breaks. So sometimes I end up pushing myself and not paying attention to the little things like that, and not catching it in the filming or editing. So I apologize for that. I'll definitely work more on staying conscious about it.
Im a fan, but your vid here lost me because watching you mull through gear before your hike was painfully boring, and to make matters less interesting, was camera lady dialog without her being audible, or your repeating the inaudible comments to clue us in. I don't know what you were thinking when you edited this and found it acceptable content.
I'm really sorry I let you down. Everyone has bad days, and I've had more than a few lately. I suppose that's not a good enough excuse when your work/life is in the public eye. I've just trimmed those parts down a bit in the YT editor, so hopefully that will help. That's all I can do without pulling the whole video, which I'm not going to do based on just one negative comment.
@BrentHall Thank you kindly for your response Brent. I'm sorry to hear you've had a stretch of bad days. I can see where reducing mundane footage at the start of your show will help retain audience attention. It's very rare for me to post any negative comment. I've admired your content for quite awhile, and will look forward to your future posts. Thank you & Best Wishes
It happens. Sorry to disappoint. I guess using youtube as therapy and talking about it in videos isn't really a great idea, especially when people are here for photography. I'll try to reel it in for future videos and keep that stuff private or for channel members.
Mate been watching you for a little over a year and can say honestly that you are the one youtuber that I wait for his next video the most to watch. Man you are killing me! Whenever I see lightning and a storm now I think of you and that I need to go photograph it.
Thanks for your TH-cam videos. Love your photos and reviews. Keep on going. Your content has helped me look at things I photograph differently and with a newer perspective
Thanks man, I'm really glad to hear that.
Nice PD bag! I was not so excited about the new Coyote colorway but it’s kinda growing on me too! I have it in blue.
Love your content as you do it. You're very personable, and you help me realize what's great around me, and I need to get out more. Keep doing what you do!

Ooooo! A City of Rocks video! Love that place.

Many thanks! Yeah, nature definitely has a way of bringing up those serotonin levels, for sure.
Brent, I am a keen watcher of bird photography videos, scaled back a little, but for me, your videos, Jan Wegener and Duade Paton, are my top three.
Hey thanks, I really appreciate that. High praise to be included with those two. I have massive respect for both of them.
Totally agree about the therapeutic aspect of photography; just getting out and seeing helps refocus the mind outside of oneself and one's stresses.
Those are some real sweet lightning shots/clips at the end, too! 👍
Many thanks! Yeah, I really didn't expect any lightning that evening, so it was a very nice bonus.
Hope "camera lady" is on the mend and glad she was with you on this outing. Great video.
Thanks. Yeah, she's all better now.
Great video. Please make time for yourself, to regroup and recharge. I appreciate the hard work you put into all your work. I being a veteran myself with health issues as well appreciate where you are coming from. Photography is my therapy and my get away from the daily grind. Thank you for sharing what you do. You do amazing work.
Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the content!
Great video!
Was gonna ask about that bag! So you like the pouch also? Agreed- get out and de-stress! It helps me too. Love the timelapses!
dont let the views get to you. Your R5ii setup video has helped me and i enjoy your wildlife videos
Hi Brent glad you distressed, being out doing what you love with the ones you love will always do that for you. You and camera lady do great work, always.
Thanks, I really appreciate that! Comparison is the thief of joy (Twain) and it's definitely a mindset trap I fall into a lot.
Thanks for the video. I'm curious if you used the new pre-capture feature of the R5 II to get the lightning strikes.
No, I just set up a timelapse.
Thx for your Video 👍
I have one question about the settings.
I much prefer video's where the camera has been used for a while in real world situations like yours , Much more informative and watchable.
Thanks. Yeah, that's why I didn't put R5II or anything like that in the title. I just want to use it, you know.

I am a loyal fan but when you get so rambling I stopped watching after 7:30.
It happens. Sorry to disappoint. I guess using youtube as therapy and talking about it in videos isn't really a great idea, especially when people are here for photography. I'll try to reel it in for future videos and keep that stuff private or for channel members.
