Writing on Sugar Cookies without a Projector

- A fun tutorial on decorating sugar cookies with Royal Icing. For a lot of us, writing on cookies is a daunting task. Especially if you do not own a projector.
This week we are looking at three techniques you can use to get the word on your cookie without a projector. We are also working with four different font styles.

What kind of parchment paper you using? I used the one from Costco, the ink does not stay in the parchment paper
What is the reasoning for writing the reverse? Why not just use the original to trace on the top of parchment and then rewriting over it to transfer to the cookie? I don’t mean to sound rude, I am just curious and trying to learn! I loved the video:) TIA!

Where did you get the projector???
How do you print the font on the parchment? Do you need a special printer?
She never printed on parchment .. the reversed love was printed on regular paper, and then traced onto the parchment paper

I have trouble with the edible marker color soaking/bleeding into the piped letters. So often the letters I'm piping are white, and no matter what color marker I've tried, the white letters (doesn't matter what consistency I used) soak up some of the marker. I piped white letters onto blue cookies the other day, with black edible marker. The next day, the white had little patches of pink here and there on almost every cookie. Please help! (I made sure the marker was dry before piping.... I did 50 of them, so by the time I got to piping, the marker was well dried)
Well this is a tough one I've never come across myself. The only thing I could think of is to try a dif brand of food colouring marker. I know, not the most original idea. Hope this helps!
How do you find backward fonts? Great video!
There may be website that will flip font for you. I do it manually. It is a lot of tracing though.

Heat and humidity are not friends to icing but if you have a fan to put them beside that should help.

The ARTOGRAPH SUPER PRISM PROJECTOR AOG-306-140. I try and add links below the videos for it but the sites change a lot. It is not cheap but its a game changer and you can use it for so much more than cookies (used it to do calligraphy on a chalkboard). You can go really small or as big as the wall. There is no software required to mess around with. You print your image place it in the machine and zoom in and out with the manual lens (no techy stuff to break). I have had mine for 6 years now and have only had to replace the lightbulbs once. Keep in mind the projector is not normally sold with the overhanging table arm - that is an investment in itself. I was really lucky and hit a 50% off deal for the projector which is why I was ok jumping in. But if you do a lot of cookies or cakes this is what the pros use,
I use a Kopykake projector which I have had for years. The tabletop model. New ones only cost about $225.00.
What size font do you use when printing?
I don't have a specific size. I normally format my words or letters in Photoshop and then I can adjust the size once it's loaded into my projector. It's all based on the size of my cookie and writing space.

CikisHelyzet I try to find links to my projector online but sometimes it's hard to find because it's an industrial model and extremely expensive. There are a lot of great, compact and affordable options on Amazon or local craft stores now a days.
What projector do you use? Do you prefer the projector or write your own message on cookies?
What about decorations using STENCILS?
Absolutely if you have those resources and those materials go for it. This was more for people who were kind of in a pinch or your projector, dies or something along those lines. I also had not really dabble in stencils at the time of producing this video, but I am in love with them now.
Can you please tell me why my royal icing smells like eggs when i put the cookies the fridge? Its soo bad i can never eat it🤢🤢
That could depend on the type of meringue. powder that you are using. Mine doesn't have a smell (I use Wilton). I know your worries about eggs but the icing and cookies won't like being in the fridge either. Some people are just extremely sensitive to smells. You may have heightened sense and that's why you're so sensitive and pick up an egg smell - it's not a bad skill to have but when things don't smell good it's not pleasant. My main suggestion would be to try a different brand of meringue powder.

@@wamu6379 yes for sure! Definitely make sure any icing that has egg whites in it is refrigerated. But you may just want to change to a recipe that uses meringue powder instead.

Hey Janne, I use a Prism Art Graph and you would need the table arm to hold it. Kopykake is another brand of projector with a similar set up. It's definitely an investment but I use it all the time.
