- Today, we take a look at a forgotten classic from Sierra in the 90s known as Lords of Magic. I've briefly talked about this game and recommend it before, so why is it so awesome?

I really would love to see a new lords of magic made some day
Same here. I'm seeing remakes of games like Knights of Honor and Master of Magic being remade, so I think it's more possible now than ever before.
they should have did remastered version would have been alot better no need to give it 2023 graphics but graphics from 2012 would be nice.

Yeah the music is top tier in this game. That life theme is next level for me.
Ah, yes. This brings back memories of better times where the big problems of life didn't bother the ~14 years old past me. Back in the days the first thing I made was freeing my temple (without exploring caves and leveling up before) and I almost always got away with that. But when I played the game some years ago I got totally smashed by the enemies in the temple and was quite confused lol.
Lol it could be the version number, difficulty, faction, etc. Some factions I can take over the temple within 2 turns. Others I need at least 10 to level up and build my army.
The one thing that I like about the digital age of video games is that it's very easy to re-visit old games that you've played in the past :)
i love it i had the orgrinal game but lost the cd over the years. I could emulators but they usually have alot flaws or glitchs and lack support. So i got this the ninja turtles cowbuga edition.,lords of magic and civilization 6 along with it expansions, plus i have diablo2 ressurected and diablo2 destruction. A selection of good off- line games, plus on this steam version you can play online with other players.
this game with modern graphics and controls would be killer ❤️
I agree. This is definitely a game that should get an HD remaster.
Lords of Magic is one of the few games I find relaxing to play. My tendency to min-max and nitpick creeps into almost everything I play, even the most casual games, but I feel I can ignore that urge for LoM. If I had to pinpoint why its probably because Lords of Magic is a pretty lean game, lacking much in the way of excess features or obsessive min-maxxing details. Each faction only has around 10 units and most only regularly use around 5, plus it's not difficult to gain most other faction's units. The economy is relatively simple and there's no need to memorize build orders or ideal worker allotments etc. The real-time combat is limited to 30 units vs 30 at most and can be paused at the player's leisure, during which he can still issue all his commands. The only true tech-tree comes from the Mage Tower and choosing what book to research isn't calculus, there's only 4 and most Faith's have their best spells concentrated in one or two. The NPC faction AI isn't especially aggressive even on Hard. Several factions have game-breaking tactics but for the most part they aren't overly-complicated to discover or understand and are also easy to ignore if you want to play a 'fair' game. This isn't to say Lords of Magic lacks strategic depth, it just isn't deeper than it needs to be. Sure the game could benefit from some tune-ups to its AI and balance and would need them to become a true 4X classic but the experience of winding-down in a generically charming fantasy world you can casually conquer it still a worthy retro-gaming experience!

You can also try Age of Wonders which is very similar to this one and also has wacky spells like the ability to create land, water, and so forth.

Just keep in mind combat is different. LoM:SE is real time combat. AoW are tactical turn base. Total War: WarHammer 1-3 would be similar to LoM:SE, but without custom champion creation.

Damn, how did you make the game run so smoothly? I bought it today on GOG, but it runs very very poorly, to the point that i can't even get throught the first week..
Honestly, nothing. It worked for me right away. If you haven't yet, you can try running the game in compatibility mode with an older version of windows. That usually helps for older games.

hello, are you alive? Can I ask you a question? my friend and I found a working version of the lords of magic, and we want to play online, how can this be done?
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm any ways on my end on how to play online nowadays. I've personally tried a direct connection between two PCs with no luck. I believe Hamachi may be the only solution, but I haven't tried it myself.
@@Powerhouse1 we tried through radmin this is the same program as hamachi and we didn’t succeed, listen, you can please make a video on the topic of playing over the network, even if nothing works. so you will provoke the community to deal with this issue, I live in another country, and in our country this game is even less popular than in countries where they speak English, I will be grateful if you make such a video, maybe in 5 years someone will make a sequel and launch the game on nets and we all play
@@user-ho9fs7ch4j With Kali you upload your own game, so mods work online too! It creates a mini server based on the game and then I play two player but heard it crashes any more than 4 human player

@@Powerhouse1 i believe you can't play online unless you use kali or game ranger these are the only programs i know of that allow players to do so online. or unless your use the lan feature and that person is directly conneted to your netowork.

From the top of my head, I would say the Heroes of Might and Magic series, specifically 3. That is one of the games Lords of Magic took elements from. Lords of the Ream 2 was also another one similar to this one.

Try the Age of Wonders series. It's similar to this one and one of my favorites.
The new game Age of Wonders 4 is good and reminds me of a more fleshed-out Lords of Magic. Definitely some differences though.
