I just bought this chipper/shredder and can't wait to use it. These tips are very helpful. Thank you for providing the info and doing it in a straight forward and helpful manner.

You can replace the nuts with wing nuts. It makes taking the tube, and the clean out plate easier to remove. If you are handy You can make the clean out plate on the side larger/ that way when you get a really bad jam. You would not have to remove the hopper to get to the jam.

It is best to run chipper at high speed to reduce jamming.

Thanks for the comment Terry. I fully agree. Much of the wood I need to chip is only about 1" or less and it's not a hardwood, so I tend to keep the machine at about 50-60% of full speed. That way it still works great and saves gas. For larger diameters and hardwoods I do increase the speed exactly as you mentioned

Yes - return it and buyr a real one! this is absolute JUNK! Bought this shredder - what a piece of junk. First time - didn't work. Exchanged it - missing parts. Exchanged it again - faulty operation. Went to return it, they wanted a $30% restocking fee that no one told me about. Manager hung phone up and told me I as dishonest and refused to give me her boss' number. I will NEVER buy anything from Harbor Freight again - cheap tools that break and aren't worth saving $10. By the way - bought both shreders they offer - the small one is weaker than a paper shredder the bigger one is unsafe and very hard to operate - especially since they don't tell you you have to hire a professional mechanic to install the high altitude kit. This company is very dishonest.
