    Very helpful as we're in the market for a chipper/shredder. Appreciate all of the great detail. Thanks!

      If I was doing it again I would get a bigger one. Seems like that is always the answer, right? It does labor some with the bigger branches but it gets through them and I'm down to chipping small amounts now that I got the main cleanup done.

      @@HalDIY Thanks for the reply! We did end up getting this exact chipper, and it's working well for us! And we can see why you suggest bigger. But - considering the weight and extra expense, in the end I think we're quite satisfied with our choice.

    Good video. Thanks for saving me time, and money, by not getting one of these. Way too time consuming for my needs.

      Glad I could help. Not buying the wrong one for your needs is even more important than finding the best one.

    The damper is sticky, it doesn’t slide easily? Why?

    • @HalDIY
      @HalDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Positioning the hopper while fastening it down is a little touchy to avoid pinching the damper. Loosen the bolts just enough to be able to wiggle the hopper and shift it to find the sweet spot where it slides easily then tighten alternate bolts to avoid moving the hopper position. I found lightly tapping the hopper bezel let me move it the tiny amounts necessary to get the best fit. Good luck and happy chipping!

    I bought the K33 301 cc shredder. I tore it down and greased all bolts, engine shaft before put it together. Its winter so I had the time indoor project. I also made 2 you tube videos on the earthquake K33 of what I did

      That is great work and really shows the interior construction of the Earthquake. Anyone else reading this note go check out Don's videos!

      @@HalDIY I made a sharpening jib to sharpen the blades with a piece of angle iron to bolt to. It's at the proper angle for the blade using a harbor freight 4x36 in bench sander, the speed is around 1500 rpm for sanding. I use the bench sander for my chisels, pencils too,

    Great demo! Thanks for helping me decide. Any update on how the chipper held up over the years?

      I use the chipper for spring pruning and storm cleanup so I don't run it heavily. The shredder works well but this next spring I need to take it apart to check on the chipper blades as I think I have dulled them a bit with the original fence row cleanup project and it isn't chipping like new.

    just ordered one.its not as big as i wanted but its what i could afford

    • @HalDIY
      @HalDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I'd have liked a 5 inch but that is commercial grade and I don't have enough work to justify it. This one handles most of the debris I get now that the problem trees are down.

    Have you tried taking the Chipped wood and feeding that back into the shredder? I think that would work to make the larger debris a lot smaller for immediate Mulch use?

    • @HalDIY
      @HalDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES, I have put the chipped pieces back through the shredder side and it does a good job breaking them down. I used the resulting fine mulch in front of a garden shed door so I don't get a mud pit where we are in and out so often.

    I bet this is the same company behind the Harbor Freight one.

      I would not be a bit surprised. I saw several color and decal versions under different brands that looked, in the pictures, like they might be virtually identical. There does appear to be a trend of a few manufacturers making most of a product type just using different private brand colors and decals with few or no differences. As long as you aren't doing a large amount of work it has done a good job for me.
