I’ve seen several of your videos and they great advice, but please either drop the background music or significantly lower it. It’s very distracting from your great format and advice.
I have a 22" Eagle Creek roller bag that has detachable backpack straps that I love. It was pricey but worth every penny. Super light weight but sturdy with nice lockable zippers. I keep a garbage bag in the strap pocket JUST in case I have to ramp check it - the whole bag goes into the garbage bag and stays clean - sorry baggage handlers but those cargo holds are dirty. Recently purchased an Osprey Daylite Plus backpack as my personal item and am quite pleased.
That's awesome! I have a very similar bag that I'm currently traveling with...I featured it in my latest video! th-cam.com/video/wj_aNrF651s/w-d-xo.html
Super tips and videos Nora! I consider myself a pretty good packer but you always show me something new! I always carry ziploc bags but never thought of that laundry idea! Something I never travel without is a roll of electrical tape. It’s stretch, reusable, and waterproof. I use it on the tops of all my liquids - wrap around the top, stretching as you go, for a perfect seal. Removable and restickable! Recently I used a strip to tape a face mask on to the blinds that kept tapping on the window frame with every slight breeze - worked perfectly to stop the annoying sound!
I love the Eagle Creek brand. Strong, durable, water-resistant, feather light. I have used these mainly for snow holidays packing jackets, pants, beanies, gloves and anything poofy. Sea to Summit another breath brand too especially for their lightweight padded electronics cubes.
Yes! Although Eagle Creek changed hands a few years ago, and their luggage (which I loved) got pulled. They've since released a new luggage line, which I haven't tried. Their packing cubes are KILLER though. And Sea to Summit makes so much great stuff! I'm particularly in love with their toiletry bag - super light, strong, and practical.
Hi Nora, I have done a lot of research and I find your advice to be invaluable. My only suggestion and request is that, since your videos are so relevant and helpful, the background “noise” is very distracting & I can only watch for short periods of time.
My ziplock bag trick is to discretely pack the kids' lunch at the all-you-can-eat breakfast if you have one in the hotel 😂but seriously, a ziploc bag of croissants or muffins or whatever are a lifesaver for sightseeing with young kids.
I used cubes and staffed bags. I used the hotel-provided shampoo and body wash. I add a few extra-thin wired hanger to use to dry my clothes. I wash my clothes in the shower. I do need to not over packed. Most of the time, I hardly wear half of what I bring.
I got a small knack pack for Christmas and just used it for the first time. It is unbelievable. The size fits under almost all airplane seats. It fit most of my clothes for a week and you can unexpand it when you get there and use it as a small backpack. It’s great.
I have the medium-sized Knack pack, and it's fantastic. When fully expanded and filled it's a bit too large to fit under the seat, but I love having the freedom to get a few things along the way and not worry that I don't have any space. Worst case scenario I expand the Knack bag and put it in the overhead bin, and I can check my carry on suitcase.
Hi Catherine, I love the suitcase too! It's the Pacsafe EXP21 rolling carry-on, however they don't seem to be carrying it at the moment, and I'm checking wth them to see if they've discontinued or are redesigning it. Hang tight - I'll come back with a link when I get an answer!
There is one more very good use for small ziplock bags, storing different currencies. If you travel to countries where the currency is different from your home currency you can store the different leftovers in small ziplock bags for next time. So you do not end up with a mixture of Euro, Swiss franc, Czech Koruna, etc which you have to sort out the next time you travel. Even if you use your cards most of the time you will need some local currencies for certain places, lockers, public toilets, etc.
Great tip! I try to spend all my currency before I leave a country (especially if I'm not 100% sure I'll return), but sometimes I'm caught out without some change when I need it.
Thanks for all the tips and I've been sealing my liquid bottles leak-proof like this for years! I agree that zip lock bags are so useful - they can even double as a doggy bag for leftovers or a poor man's compression cube! Just a note for laundry - often you can take the liner bag out of the garbage bin in a hotel room or cabin and use it to wash hand laundry (but use the zip lock if it's not dry when you have to leave).
Very helpful! I’m interested in learning more about which cards and airlines are best for flying from Midwest (Chicago) to the Caribbean in general . We ♥️ Mexico & Dom Republic & plan to spend more time back & forth in coming years. Thanks for all the great info!

I hang my compression packing cubes when I get to my destination by putting each one by its loop over a hanger. I can access all my clothes by just unzipping the top of each. I think better than rolo for my purposes. Enjoy your videos. !
If the sink doesn’t work, then just stand with your dirty stuff in hand, give the stuff and yourself a wash, rinse and stuff it in a towel to twist dry when you’re ready The hotel clothes lines in the showers are useless. I have an old two line elasticised twist line with hooks, that works great
Nice suggestions once again - here's one to consider, never bring those Hydroflasks, Yeti, or Kleen Kanteen - they take up a good amount of room when you stick in the seat pocket in front of your seat - try using a narrow flask, it allows extra leg room and every extra inch helps.
@@NoraDunn Yes, Platypus is definitely good for water, I've found some narrow insulated bottles that work well with coffee and tea, and water - anyway keep up the great videos
Just found your channel today and love it! Thank you for all the info! Heading out this summer from Hawaii to Austria and Switzerland for a month. Wonderful tips! Mahalo nui loa!
It's difficult not to overpack for cruises since lots of people like to bring multiple dressy outfits for the dinners! Those alone will take up a lot of space. So if you don't want to overpack, pay attention to bringing items that can be used in multiple scenarios. For example, perhaps you bring one nice black dress and accessorize it differently on different days/nights.
Nora, new subscriber ! How often do you run into problems with your carry on or personal item not fitting in overhead or under seat because you have packed them too well, too full or too heavy , and what happens at that point when you have already boarded ? Thanks ! BTW, really like your very informative channel & sagsac is sold out !
Hi Jeff! I've never had major problems with my carry-on luggage, though occasionally I am required to gate-check it (for free, usually on smaller planes). Re: Segsac, they are currently redesigning it and will relaunch this year!
Oh that's too bad! It was a recent thing. When I made the video they were still around. The closest alternative I'm aware of is this packing cube set that turns into a hanging wardrobe, by Standard Luggage: bit.ly/3Fxx3pA
Not the point of the video, but that top is beautiful on you! I've hemmed and hawed about the hobo roll because it's round, which is great for a backpack but wasn't sure about how efficient it would be in a suitcase. Glad to see you show it here again and I'm going to take another look at it! Wanted to share that as a hiker and sometime 'gram weenie' , I've never gone so far as to cut my toothbrush handle down or cut out clothes tags to save weight but I do shorten those velcro cord holders so they only wrap once and are less bulky. If you're close to a weight limit, teeny things can add up! Be forewarned that it can become a weird obsession. 🙂
Ooh - fantastic tip about cutting down the velcro cord ties! They are usually way too long and is becomes fussy to wind them up. (And thanks for the compliment on my shirt!)
I found your content very useful. Thanks for all the tips/tricks. Can you tell me the name of the beige backpack you use for your personal item? I didn't see a link in the description, but I may have missed it. Thanks!
Regarding supplements, at customs I have seen some concern by inspectors that they might be drugs, any comments? If you have any prescribed medication is it wise to have them in their original bottle? Is it possible to have RX’s filled while traveling, in particular pain medication?
Hi James, I tend to decant my supplements into ziploc bags for space-saving reasons. I've never had them questioned or confiscated, but if they must be, then so be it. I suggest keeping prescription meds in their original bottles. Regarding getting RXs filled abroad, it depends on the medication and the country you're visiting as to whether it's available.
Are you referring to the bag I showed in the video? Yes, it was larger than one quart, but the contents were smaller than one quart. I was just storing them in that bag for ease of access.
I have been looking for a reliable multiport adapter for traveling. This looks good but does this one also need international converters to plug it in overseas? Will it still work in overseas outlets with several items charging? (We've had issues with some items in the past not working in European outlets, due to high power demand.)
The Segsac seems rather gimmicky. For instance, if you don’t have enough clothes to justify the extra bulk, weight and shape. Speaking of shape, round isn’t good use of space. Plus, you have to open the entire thing just to get one item out. In opinion of non-pro traveler, the compression packing cubes in various sizes, seem a lot more efficient to use. Regarding the cord ties, those are really bulky (thick). Better to use twist ties, and simply coil (not wrap) to prevent loss around the cable when cable is in use. Or, they make very thin (not to be confused with width) hook & loop individual cable ties or on a roll. Regarding width, you don't need more than 1/2".
On the contrary, the Segsac (formerly hoboroll) is my #1 fav packing tool! The material is the super thin ultralight Ultrasil ripstop that is as light and thin as it gets. And the round shape works great for socks, underwear, bathing suits, scarves, and other smaller items. It closes up and compresses down on travel days, and then accessing it is the best part - with the separate segments inside, all my little bits are completely organized! I use it 100% of the time I travel, every single day to keep everything organized. It just goes into the drawer and I’m done; packing and unpacking is a breeze! I keep one side closed and the other side open and I have easy access to everything. Sadly, they’ve been sold out for quite some time now; the founders told me they are redesigning and will relaunch it hopefully this year. I stay tuned. It’s the one packing tool that has come with me on every single trip for 12+ years. Thanks for the tip about the cable ties!
Great tips 👌 I love the roll up bag ❤ I like travel cubes, I don't unpack them, unless it's clothes that wrinkle, and use them like drawers in their own right at destination, works well 😊
Thank you Nora for the tips. Did you have any experience using de-flatable bags for clothing? The kind you roll up to expell air out to flatten it to the max. I would imagine they are great space savers.
Yep - they're great space-savers, but in my experience everything comes out irrevocably wrinkled, and if I use too many of these bags and pack my luggage full it makes my luggage way too heavy! (so...I'm not a fan lol)
Nice advice. But no matter how you compress and stuff things: you always have to consider the weight of your luggage and personal item. There are weight and size restrictions ! I am purser for almost 30 years and almost daily see people with way too large and too heavy items of luggage. There is a misconception on the “personal” item. In my company this should not exceed the size and weight auf a “normal” handbag or bag back. Often times passengers bring their mini suitcase (way too big and heavy) plus an extra bag the size and weight of a baby elephant and trying to sneak this in as a personal item…. Not on my shift. Thing is: if we left everyone on the plane with so much stuff- where do you think we can stow it? There is no magic button the flight crew can push to have more room. Or a secret stowage area we hide purposefully from passengers….just to make them angry. If we did, trust me the company would put more seats in to sell them. So keep this in mind when travelling. One more pro tip on packing toiletries: just take what you need for the first night(s) and buy it in your destination provided it’s not in the middle of nowhere. I use it up in my vacation and the remains I just leave there….
I've travelled extensively over the years (except when compared to the likes of you! ;-). I consider myself a pretty good packer and already organize myself in much the same way, but this was still by far the most useful of the packing videos I've ever watched. Love a lot of the gear you showed, and haven't seen it anywhere else. Sadly, the SegSac Traveler doesn't seem to be made anymore, and I can't find other compression sacks with these interior compartments (which is what made them appealing to me). Have you found any alternatives?
HI, wonderful video. Can I ask if you ever found any problem carrying your supplements. I just wonder if they might not allow that for suspecting it might be other drugs for example. I like to take many vitamins and supplements and have an upcoming trip soon and that is one of the things I wonder if I will be allowed to carry or not! ANyways, great tips from channel in general! best wishes
Great question (and thanks for the kind words) ☺️ I’ve never had any trouble, but it’s also part of the reason I put the supplement label in the bag with the supplements. Happy travels!
It depends on where you are going. I buy my supplements and keep the container seal intact, same for Advil or whatnot. I had a huge issue in Vienna over an opened bottle of ginger capsules and will never, ever do that again. Some of my prescriptions come in sealed bottles and I leave them sealed. Also, you can google where you are going and see if what you want to bring is legal, CBD being a prime example. Nothing like going to jail over a simple mistake. Also, get a paper copy of the prescriptions you take, just in case.

All of my new videos have no background music, but I can't do anything about videos that have already been published. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate your feedback.
Put all your empty packing cubes in a pile. That mass is eliminating space in your bag. Use the strongest thinnest plastic bags you can find. I use produce dept bags. How do you take all those liquids in your carry on bag?
My packing cubes don't take up any more space than plastic bags.....at least not ostensibly. I have another video where I compare (with a demonstration) packing cubes vs rolling; the difference was actually negligible - which surprised me! I expected rolling to be much more of a space saver. As for the liquids - never had a problem. They fit the guidelines.
Do you ever have any problems having your ziplocked supplements going thru customs? I’m always so nervous not having pills, vitamins, Advil, etc without their original packaging.
I don’t keep a list of what to pack, I don’t go to consistent climates, but keep a list of what I packed, what I packed and didn’t use, and what I needed more of. I’m getting too old to haul a big bag.
Thank you for these valuable travel tips. I find it a bit annoying to have to listen to the background music all the time. It would be nice if it could be done without music.
All of my new videos have no background music, but I can't do anything about videos that have already been published. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate your feedback.
Going carryon is nearly impossible for tall people. Our jeans are twice as long & heavy as probably yours. And let's not talk about packing shoes. Big shoes take up a lot of room and dress flats are impossible to find in large sizes. So, I applaud those who can make due w/a carryon only.
Absolutely! It's way more difficult. But I'd like to point you in the direction of a good friend of mine - Matt Bowles - who is 6'5" and travels FULL-TIME with carry on luggage only, and his luggage INCLUDES a portable espresso maker, podcast studio, and a 3-piece suit with dress shoes! He hosts one of the most popular podcasts out there for location independent professionals, but he also has a few resources for minimalist travel, like this one: www.themaverickshow.com/packing-video-signup/
I like a lot of your tips but a lot of them feel like you're gonna be in one location for your holiday and I rarely travel like that - generally on the go every few days
All of my new videos have no background music, but I can't do anything about videos that have already been published. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate your feedback.
@@NoraDunn A number of African countries ban single use plastic but I have only lived and continue to visit Tanzania where “as of 2019, has announced that travellers are no longer allowed to bring in plastic bags when they visit the country. This includes all plastic carriers, regardless of their thickness. They even make in-flight announcements to surrender any plastic bags. Special counters are set up at the airport and border posts for travellers to surrender any kind of plastic bags. The only exception is ziplock bags used as toiletries, provided they leave Tanzania with you. Travellers are encouraged to bring cloth carry bags instead of plastic”. It does help keep down the garbage especially since most homeowners don’t have garbage pickup and public trash bins are practically non existent.

I always get a little irritated when I see stock photos of women wearing really high booty shorts because it’s not respectful most places you go and this weird one with the shorts up her bum and a long sleeve jacket on a lonely highway with a suitcase is just a little creepy and concerning
LOL! I already have bunions. These shoes don't bunch up your toes the way you might think. They're super stretchy, and they don't emphasize the bunions either.

Trips are the same way
Plus I bush craft witch is camping with very minimum like a tarp a hammock and 3 tools . To get food etc
Nice!
I hang my compression packing cubes when I get to my destination by putting each one by its loop over a hanger. I can access all my clothes by just unzipping the top of each. I think better than rolo for my purposes. Enjoy your videos. !
Nice trick! And those packing cubes will definitely take up less luggage space than the Rolo.
Zip lock bags are great! I use for tea, electronic at airport
Ziploc bags are good for soooooo many things!
If the sink doesn’t work, then just stand with your dirty stuff in hand, give the stuff and yourself a wash, rinse and stuff it in a towel to twist dry when you’re ready The hotel clothes lines in the showers are useless. I have an old two line elasticised twist line with hooks, that works great
Yeah, those hotel clothes lines are ridiculous! Can't even hold a bathing suit without sagging LOL
Thanks!
Thank YOU, Jean! I appreciate your support. :-)
Great video and advice! We are just wrapping up an 8 month trip that started in July in Albania (HOT) and ends in two days in Scotland (not hot).
Hi Nora, thank you much for sharing your ideas with us.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tips and tricks. I wonder though if they're all under the weight limit for carry-ons.
Thank you
You're welcome!
really cool tips. will implement your ideas on my next trip.
Nice suggestions once again - here's one to consider, never bring those Hydroflasks, Yeti, or Kleen Kanteen - they take up a good amount of room when you stick in the seat pocket in front of your seat - try using a narrow flask, it allows extra leg room and every extra inch helps.
Great point! I personally love my Platypus collapsible water bottle. It’s also quite narrow when full.
@@NoraDunn Yes, Platypus is definitely good for water, I've found some narrow insulated bottles that work well with coffee and tea, and water - anyway keep up the great videos
I get the jumbo ziplock bags will be a perfect washing machine 😅
Yes! Great hack.
Great tips. One comment: wrong size ziploc for TSA liquid requirements.
Good eye! But all the contents fit into the appropriate sized bag.
Just found your channel today and love it! Thank you for all the info! Heading out this summer from Hawaii to Austria and Switzerland for a month. Wonderful tips! Mahalo nui loa!
Thanks, Kim!
I admit to being a terrible packer. My next trip will use your tips and see if I can discard some of my earlier errors.
Yay! Good luck
Such great tips! And your videos are entertaining as well.
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for sharing you knowledge with us. I am going on a cruise, what would you advice I take as I do not want to over pack. 👍🤗
@@NoraDunn 👍 Thanks !
You demonstrated separating liquids, in a gallon ziplock bag, when in reality, liquids that are checked have to fit in a quart-size bag. 😉
All the liquids I demonstrated fit into a quart sized bag.
Hi! cool Tips and I love your Blouse!!!
Thanks Maira!
The top you are wearing is so gorgeous! Can you tell me where you got it from/materials or the best terms to search that neckline by?
Thanks, Caz! The top was a hand-me-down, but the neckline is (I believe) called a cowl neck.
Do you have an alternative to the Rolo becuase they've closed down. Thanks
Oh that's too bad! It was a recent thing. When I made the video they were still around.
The closest alternative I'm aware of is this packing cube set that turns into a hanging wardrobe, by Standard Luggage: bit.ly/3Fxx3pA
@@NoraDunn thank you x
Wondering if custom will questioning your bag of supplements.
They haven't yet...
Put the supplement, prescription label in the bag with them.
@@NoraDunn I also felt your blouse was gorgeous
What brand and model is your suitcase?
Unfortunately it has been discontinued. But a comparable case that I just ordered is this one by Osprey: alnk.to/e745Alq
Are those paintings behind your head Kerry Darlington?? I ADORE her stuff!!
No, it's my friend Nathalie Vachon!
@@NoraDunn they're BEAUTIFUL
I found your content very useful. Thanks for all the tips/tricks. Can you tell me the name of the beige backpack you use for your personal item? I didn't see a link in the description, but I may have missed it. Thanks!
It's the Peak Design Everyday Totepack! Killer bag: peak-design.pxf.io/qnernq
Regarding supplements, at customs I have seen some concern by inspectors that they might be drugs, any comments? If you have any prescribed medication is it wise to have them in their original bottle? Is it possible to have RX’s filled while traveling, in particular pain medication?
Hi James,
I tend to decant my supplements into ziploc bags for space-saving reasons. I've never had them questioned or confiscated, but if they must be, then so be it.
I suggest keeping prescription meds in their original bottles.
Regarding getting RXs filled abroad, it depends on the medication and the country you're visiting as to whether it's available.
Liquid zip lock bag is bigger than one quart.
Hey Reg,
Yep, you need a plug adaptor to plug in the extension cord/power bar/surge protector. I haven't had any trouble charging multiple items.
Does the hobo bag fit in a carryon? Or are you meant to carry it separately?
I pack it into my carry-on luggage.
The most useful video! Thank you
thanks for sharing
Great tips 👌 I love the roll up bag ❤ I like travel cubes, I don't unpack them, unless it's clothes that wrinkle, and use them like drawers in their own right at destination, works well 😊
Thanks, Nia!
@@NoraDunn thank you, those were my suspicions on drawbacks of using them.
@@alexandramccarthy4648 Glad I could help!
Thank you for sharing Claudia!
Really - seg sac isn’t being sold any more?? Say it ain’t so!! I’m going to check with my friends at Gobi Gear and see what’s happening. Stay tuned!
@@NoraDunn The Rolo seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur as well... 😞
Oh no!
ANyways, great tips from channel in general! best wishes
Great question (and thanks for the kind words) ☺️
I’ve never had any trouble, but it’s also part of the reason I put the supplement label in the bag with the supplements.
Great info but drop the background music, makes it very difficult to listen to you.
Noted!
Drop back ground music hard for the hard of hearing, even with hearing aids
All of my new videos have no background music, but I can't do anything about videos that have already been published. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate your feedback.
Great tips and presentation. However, the music is too loud. It's distracting and detracts from your voice. Thank you.
I've never had an issue.
Has the SegSac discontinued too?
It is still available :-)
Everytime I go to your link it shows sold out
I believe they are restocking. I just chatted with the owner of Gobi Gear - they're still in business.
Please add American/English (Imperial system) measurements to the screen when you talk about metric measurements.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I don’t keep a list of what to pack, I don’t go to consistent climates, but keep a list of what I packed, what I packed and didn’t use, and what I needed more of. I’m getting too old to haul a big bag.
Nice strategy to keep track of what you used and didn't use!
Thank you for these valuable travel tips. I find it a bit annoying to have to listen to the background music all the time. It would be nice if it could be done without music.
All of my new videos have no background music, but I can't do anything about videos that have already been published. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate your feedback.
What kind of suitcase is that?
It's a (sadly discontinued) Pacsafe rolling carry-on luggage. But....I have ordered this one from Osprey as a replacement: alnk.to/6bS98mC
@@NoraDunn ooooh, I’ll check it out!

I like a lot of your tips but a lot of them feel like you're gonna be in one location for your holiday and I rarely travel like that - generally on the go every few days
What tips would you give that are specific to moving every few days?
Don’t you get questioned about the supplements not being in the original container if you are going through customs?
I don't. So far so good...
Great advice, but background music was giving me a headache and had to stop watching. Safe travels!
All of my new videos have no background music, but I can't do anything about videos that have already been published. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate your feedback.
Love your videos but I go to Africa every year and most African countries ban zip lock bags. Just an FYI
What?!?!?! Ziplock bags are banned in Africa? Why??
@@NoraDunnplastic bags are in East Africa. Does make less trash along the roadside, etc.
@@SharonJohnson-l7n Fascinating! So they are full-on banned, like they're illegal to use or sell? Or they're just not given out in supermarkets?
@@NoraDunn A number of African countries ban single use plastic but I have only lived and continue to visit Tanzania where
“as of 2019, has announced that travellers are no longer allowed to bring in plastic bags when they visit the country.

No way I could wear those shoes. My toes would mutiny.
Ha ha! You might be surprised. They stretch!
@@NoraDunn That would require the toes to press out on the shoes. My extra-long big toes are already numb from a 50y of being squished. What do we want? Kindness for toes! When do we want it?? Now!
@@marionsutcliffe1119 Ha ha! Yes :-)
I always get a little irritated when I see stock photos of women wearing really high booty shorts because it’s not respectful most places you go and this weird one with the shorts up her bum and a long sleeve jacket on a lonely highway with a suitcase is just a little creepy and concerning
I'm sorry it disturbed you.
Why on earth would you wear those pointy shoes? You will have bunions in 10 years no doubt about it.
LOL! I already have bunions. These shoes don't bunch up your toes the way you might think. They're super stretchy, and they don't emphasize the bunions either.
Thanks!
