I started watching BSF in 2017. Jake covers topics the right way, thoroughly and objectively. I’d say every six months I have the urge to binge all the episodes, and they have a quality to them that makes them very rewatchable. Congrats, Jake. Can’t wait to watch the doc this weekend.
His career has been off for a long time lol. He's produced a bunch of great content. Another Dirty Room Season 2 is my fav (I need more Rick & Brennan 😭)

born & raised in nola and this is one of the absolute best contemporary documentaries ever done about anything having to do with new orleans! thank you for capturing the essence of what six flags / jazzland meant for the city.
This documentary popped up on prime video for me a few months ago and I watched it and I was absolutely in awe of it. It stitched together this immersive story and really made me feel the impact of the hurricane. I got chills. I loved it so much I watched it a second time and showed it to my friends. It’s so cool that I found the director of this documentary! Fantastic job! 10/10 my favorite documentary.
My son and I just finished watching "Closed for Storm." Excellent job, Jake and company. As always, you approach the subject with no melodrama, just good storytelling that covers why these places get abandoned, the facts of the financials (ugh--the waste!), and the tragedy (particularly in this case) of the lives and neighborhoods impacted. The visuals were stunning. Bravo!
Watched Closed For Storm last night on either Netflix or Amazon Prime. Can't remember. It was a great film on the history of the park and how it all came crashing down to what it is now. A complete eyesore. Great job!
Anything connected to Katrina I think will always remain a rough subject for those here in Louisiana. We were disregarded and pushed aside, and many people and places suffered because of it! This is an amazing way to give light to that though, and I think is necessary. It’s a beautiful work!
I remember going to Six Flags in July right before Katrina hit. I was only 15 at the time, and I remember how surreal it was seeing video of the park and the city on TV, and being scared that my home was gone too. We were lucky, but Katrina definitely left a scar on every New Orleanian’s heart. ⚜️❤️
I grew up in south MS, but had just moved away. My friends and family were still there, and went through some horrible times. Oddly enough, I now work with a guy from New Orleans who survived it, too. ⚜️
@@5roundsrapid263 As a New Orlenian living in Baton Rouge at the time with a ton of family in NOLA. It's always bugged me how little attention southern MS received. I vividly remember visiting Biloxi, Long Beach, & Waveland a few months after the storm. Near every structure within a quarter mile of the coast was wiped of the map. Entire graveyards, homes, shops, restaurants, casinos, churches all washed out to sea. Not to forget the inland damage. NOLA was in a uniquely apocalyptic situation given the loss of life, but as far as sheer damage goes. What MS experienced was easily on par with NOLA.
@@WAKKAMANZ Exactly. I grew up inland, and it was bad there. I went to Biloxi a few months later, and it was shocking how bad things still were. New Orleans was hit by 8-10 feet of water, but the MS coast had 25-30 feet! More evacuated there and lived, because they’d had many more direct hits over the years.
Definitely want to see this! This is true nostalgia for me. I went to Jazzland and I worked for six flags from summer 2003 till 2 days before Katrina. I was preparing to open paradise hotdog that morning right before the park was scheduled to open we shut down due to the weather. They made us take down umbrellas and signs that would fly away. At the time I thought we were just shutting down for the weekend. We knew it was a hurricane coming and yeah the city floods, but no one expected the levee to break. I knew exactly how high the water was from looking at the SpongeBob ride. My last job and last weekend living in New Orleans.
I went that summer, as a senior band trip. I'm from Central Louisiana. I went in June, and it was like the 3rd time I had been to the park. Never thought it would be the last time. Its just crazy to think about.
I have been watching your videos sience Abandoned Episode 1. Wow, you have grown a lot... Happy to know a part of my youth (I'm 15, btw) still is alive and kicking harder than ever.
I have to say that I have enjoyed all of jakes abandoned you tube videos. I was pleased to see closed for storm available for purchase on my Apple TV. I bought it soon after it’s release and have now watched it 3 times. I’ve visited NOLA four times and have only driven past the site. I was there before Katrina so the park was open at the time. Such a shame this happened . And with no insurance available to rebuild . Sad. But great movie .
Closed For Storm brought me back to my childhood. It was a wonderful view into a place that brought me so much joy as a kid. It was emotional and sad for me. Really well done.
I explored it in 2018. It felt so... frozen in time. Like, everything was still the same, rotted and decaying obviously, but it only looked like they were closed for the day. Pretty surreal
I just finished watching the documentary. It's a Katrina story I've never heard before, thank you for allowing the people who lived it to tell the story themselves. Looking forward to what you do next.
im halfway thru this video and i am getting emotional (tbh i didn't expect that). im so proud of how far jake has come and it feels like just yesterday where i was 14, falling down the rabbit hole of abandoned places and i have been here ever since.

Just watched it last night! Loved it! I have been obsessed with Six Flags New Orleans ever since it became abandoned and wondered what they were going to do with the land and park. I really wish they could somehow bring back the park! It would bring more tourists in and bring life back to the community. Thank you for working so hard to put this into a wonderful film! If ever it comes out on bluray I will buy it!
Wow man I just got done watching Closed for Storm and I gotta say I'm blown away. Not that I wasn't expected to be but the way u managed to capture a scene about the loss the city went through but still show the love between the community and people after is so touching. The scene when the couple started hugging after walking through their house that was practically not there anymore had me in tears for a few seconds. The only thing I could've wished for is the exploration of the park to be longer. Paying 5 bucks to rent an hour long film seems a little steep, but regardless man you have a promising future in this.
I hadn’t seen the film, this behind the scenes came up in feed due to me being a subscriber. I have never been so excited to leave a TH-cam video and hunt down a documentary before. Great work guys. Keep it up.
I preordered it and watched it! Loved it. I love how you included so much footage of it back when it was open! Really gives us a better view of what life was like back then when it wasn’t abandoned. Please don’t ever stop doing the abandoned series! One thing I wish I could have seen was elaborating on how you went about it to get permission to be on the property. I know it’s crazy protected, would have been cool to hear the story behind how you were able to gain access!
Just rented “Closed for Storm” on Vudu. Very, very solid documentary feature debut. I’ve loved the Abandoned series for years, and this film feels like the quintessential culmination of all of your years working on said series. Congratulations!!!
I told you I was going to buy this documentary and I did (absolutely top, btw) You are one of the pillars of the Urbex community and I’m so happy you can now share this hobby with even more people. Your videos are an excellent reminder to be thankful when we get to visit a museum, an amusement park, a resort or mall. All of those places will one day be empty for good, reclaimed by nature or knocked down. Even places like Disney World will one day close their doors, it’s not going to be today or tomorrow, it might not even be for several life times, but it will happen. It’s kinda sad, that the places we love won’t last forever, that one day the settings of our treasured memories will be neglected or destroyed, but it also makes me feel lucky. Thanks for reminding me that we all got one go around on this big stupid ball and I’m happy my turn had rollercoasters and indoor plumbing instead of the Black Death or a Mongol invasion.
OK so I just watch it. You guys did an incredible job! I've lived 30 minutes from disney world my entire life and we've always had passes. It has always been magical. I thought about what it would be like if a hurricane took it out ( obviously Florida gets a lot of them, and we're even waiting for one to hit at this very moment) . We would be absolutely gutted. I practically grew up there. I have memories from every pivotal point in my life, including bringing my son. If it was no longer there, or worse, fallen to disrepair, it would be beyond heartbreaking. I felt a sense of loss for those people who no longer have access to the place that gave them so many good memories. You guys really did such a good job at portraying the sense of loss and frustration. Congratulations on the film!
I've watched the doc like 10 times now and I'm still blown away by how amazing the music is. You didn't exaggerate even a little bit about how good it is.
Jake, im a picky old bas-terd and I have to say....youve come SO far from your first videos to todays productions. I love how you explore these old places from many of our pasts and tell us what has become of them. You are a treasure, and a testament to how practice makes perfect. Keep on doing what youre doing. We all love what you put out here.
I am so proud of you. I have been following your work for a long time. I am a huge fan of Dan Bell and I was introduced to your work through him. I was born and raised in the New Orleans area and I still live here today. Naturally your documentary is of interest to me. I'm going to purchase it from Amazon. I wish you all the success you have certainly earned!
Well Jake I have to say that I got choked up in the last 10 minutes. It's so very sad that a place that held such enjoyment for so many people is now just an eye sore, a memory. It all boils down to money as far as redevelopment goes. Who wants to take the chance? After saying all that I have to say your production was very well done, $8 well spent. I want to thank the people you did find for interviews which was a must. Very sorry for all the people who lost their homes plus businesses that went under & ones last lost their lives.
I'm so immeasurably proud of Jake and the Bright Sun Films crew! Honestly that score really is the finishing move and cherry on top! The music highlighted the emotions of the stories told. Beautifully done!
Standing on that rollercoaster would legit be in top 5 memories ever. I'm a huge coaster buff as well as fan of abandoned places (the nostalgia of the past), that looks like a dream come true! Congrats man, can't wait to watch the film!
This is incredible, Jake. I’ve been following you for probably 5 or 6 years, and as a Baton Rouge resident who has felt like SFNO has become such a symbol of the losses of Katrina, I have been waiting anxiously for it. Made a whole Vudu account just to buy it and it was worth every penny. You’ve come so far from those early, stammery, uncertain videos. This is surreal in the very best sense of the word. I love it. Is it weird to be proud of someone you’ve never met? Well, I am.
This is actually the second amusement park that New Orleans tried to create. The first was Pontchartrain Beach decades before I was born. I'm not sure what caused it to close, but all that is left is a rusty sign with the park's name.
@@chadschmaltz9790 Pontchartrain Beach began its attendance decline after integration. White flight out of Orleans suburbs into Jefferson parish created a massive lack of attendance over the next two decades.
@@JO-NI2 it has no future as an amusement park. It’s beyond economic repair. The city owns it and has had a variety of proposals fall through over the years. They’re evaluating other proposals now.
@@chadschmaltz9790 I've been to both. My best friends mom (we all lived in MobileAl.) , surprised us at 13 years old with a Saturday trip to Pontchartrain Beach Amusement Park. It seemed to be fun then and bustling with families. Closed down probably lack of popularity, which leads to lack of finances to keep the park going.
I saw this and gasped then looked and realised it wasn't available in the UK ;-; I'm sure it's absolutely amazing and I can't wait to watch it whenever I can ❤️
I loved Closed for Storm! Me and my mom used to watch BSF all the time, and now that she has passed away, watching BSF makes me so happy to remember her
That was a beautifully, respectfully done documentary. The camera work, the score, the editing…all well done. Anyone that is on the fence about purchasing or renting the film…go ahead and hop over. I assure you, it’s well worth it. If you are young, you can imagine how sad it would be to see an exciting park like this sit abandoned and decaying. If you are older, you can imagine (or maybe remember) your grandchildren enjoying an attraction such as this. If you are somewhere in the middle like me (mid-40s), you can imagine both of these, wish you had a place like this for your kids right now, remember going to places like this yourself 20-30 years ago, as well as feel how devastating the impact on your city and property values would be. Point being, I think that everyone can appreciate the care that went into the making of this film and the heartfelt representation of the people in the city of New Orleans. Nicely done Jake!
Good for you Jake! I’ve been watching since you had just a few thousand followers and it honestly warms my heart to see where you’ve gone. Congratulations man, this is a huge milestone in your career with only bigger things coming. Thank you for all your great content over the years, very excited to rent this over dinner tonight. I watched it last night after my preorder went live. You did an absolutely killer job and the music is incredible. Major props to you for hiring such talented people and seeing your vision all the way through! I still remember an early video you did with a small crew announcing a big project you were working on that you were keeping under wraps. Congrats! 🎉
I just watched Closed For Storm. I live in Baton Rouge, and this film took me back to Katrina. You did a great job on this film. I wish they would make a new park, but I also understand how it’s a big reminder of that horrible time left standing there. So sad.

I really appreciate it!
Bought it already, but I’m trying to hold out until my flight on Thursday to watch it. Congrats to Jake and the whole BSF crew
Well, I am.
At this point I feel like Six Flags New Orleans should be a historical landmark
@@JO-NI2 we already have a (really nice) City Park.
I love how you went from a nervous video maker on TH-cam to an all out filmmaker with genuine and serious skill and talent
I saw this and gasped then looked and realised it wasn't available in the UK ;-; I'm sure it's absolutely amazing and I can't wait to watch it whenever I can ❤️
Same over here in Germany
@SomeoneOnlyWeKnow I’ve tried using a vpn but all the platforms require either a US mobile number to send a code to, or a US based iTunes account :(
Jake, this is the best documentary that i have every seen. You deserve an Academy award for this documentary.
Watched the movie last night. Was absolutely fantastic, thank you Jake for the amazing content
As a storm chaser, and weather enthusiast, AND meteorology… I love this, awesome video!
I’ll rent it soon buddy, just gotta wait to get paid. Glad to see all your hard work finally pay off :)
Congrats to Jake and the crew. I’ve been pumped to watch this for a long time!
Literally JUST finished the documentary!! I loved it, excited to watch this now too!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I loved Closed for Storm! Me and my mom used to watch BSF all the time, and now that she has passed away, watching BSF makes me so happy to remember her
I get such old school PBS documentaries vibe. Can't wait to buy the film and excited to see where y'all's future goes 💞👍
Thank you so much!

Seeing all of the old videos of Jazzland especially the Grand opening gave me goosebumps. It was both fond full and depressing at the same time.
You are truly talented and should be very proud.
Thank you so much, I really hope you enjoy it
Ive just finished watching Closed for Storm. An extremely well filmed, produced and put together documentary. Well worth every minute of watch time.
This is exciting. It looks like it be of excellent quality and the dedication to see this project to fruition is commendable. Thank you for this Jake.
I love that when he says “I’m always going to love it” meaning this is only the beginning
Awwww, my baby Bright Sun is all grown up and makin' documentaries! Brings a tear to my eye! I can't wait to see this!!! Great work, Jake! :)
As a long time viewer and journalism graduate, I cried at the end of this documentary because I was so proud of you! This was a HUGE accomplishment and you did such a good job!
Jake - you have always impressed me with your professionalism- can’t wait to c it
I have always been so amazed by the quality and background information in your TH-cam videos. I rented Closed for storm tonight on appleTv and was not disappointed. I really hope they do something the benefits this area that is not a Amazon fulfillment center.
Watching this right now. I love the aspect of the theme park and how it got left behind
Just have to say how inspirational you are to an aspiring documentarian like me, Jake. Absolutely cannot wait to watch the film. Congratulations to all involved!
Really good movie, enjoyed all of it.
Thank you so much!
The doc was just as amazing as I expected, and more. Thank you Jake and team for all of your hard work on this, bringing the world to a piece of history that otherwise would never be experienced by most.
I am so happy for you, the first video of yours I saw was the Six Flags New Orleans video back in early 2015. I cannot wait to watch your film. Thank you for the years of fascinating content!
That was my first introduction too, to both Jake and urban exploration in general.
Just watched this today on my lunch break at work... Very well done Jake... I am so proud of how far you have come since I subscribed to you some years ago. You and your team definitely have a strong future as a film makers. Can't wait to see what you tackle next.
The Katrina Storm disaster changed the lives of many, many Americans. I am so happy that you chose this topic to debut your first feature film. It took a Canadian to bring important United History to life. Thank you for this endeavor,. I appreciate your enthusiasm of you and your team.
I just got done watching the film. Everyone who worked on that project is extremely talented. I learned so much, got different perspectives and didn’t want it to end. Amazing job Jake!
Too bad it's not available on Prime Video in Germany. Can't wait to see it!
I'm actually not seeing it on Prime Video in the USA either... Maybe just hasn't posted yet.

I watched Closed for Storm yesterday and it was very interesting and very well done. Good job Jake, you should be really proud of your 1st feature length movie. 👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
Watched Closed For Storm this morning, I was quite impressed on all counts! Great job to all those involved!
I very much appreciate it, thank you!
Will be watching the documentary soon, I just wanted to say congrats Jake. This is a major achievement for you and it won't be long until the next one!
I just finished watching the documentary. You did such BEAUTIFUL job. Thank you for such an exquisite film. ❤
Your doing what Chris stuckmann is doing directing and living your dream !
Definitely need to follow the composer, I was sobbing for a park I'd never been to and the scenes of hurricane Katrina. Fantastic work!
I watched it last night after my preorder went live. You did an absolutely killer job and the music is incredible. Major props to you for hiring such talented people and seeing your vision all the way through! I still remember an early video you did with a small crew announcing a big project you were working on that you were keeping under wraps. Congrats! 🎉
Thank you!
I just watched Closed For Storm. I live in Baton Rouge, and this film took me back to Katrina. You did a great job on this film. I wish they would make a new park, but I also understand how it’s a big reminder of that horrible time left standing there. So sad.
Oh danmit guys, i am so hyped now but I still have too wait until its available in europe.

Same here. These things are annoying as hell. And since more and more streaming website popped up in the last two years, every film producing company with their own, i can see the reason, why torrent popularity is goin up again.

Just watched it on vimeo since the other platforms wouldn’t allow me to stream it in Finland. It was a true masterpiece. Never has over an hour gone by so fast. I have waited for and anticipated this experience since you first revealed your project and to say the wait was worth it would be an understatement. I have watched every single video you’ve released, and admiring your progress as a film maker has been nothing short of incredible. I still remember my comment getting hearted and replied to by you on one of your first short documentary videos with a couple of thousand views. It was amazing how you connected and listened to your audience and to think that you still do is incredible. Thank you Jake! Looking forward to many future projects and videos from you. I found a way to view it here in the end. It’s not exactly riveting! I didn’t enjoy really at all. It’s just a standard documentary that’s been wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overhyped. Expectations raised far too high

I've been a fan of you for long enough that it feels like FOREVER that I've waited for this! I just watched it, and my God, your directorial debut was absolutely worthy of the festival! Incredibly compelling, you brought tears to my eyes with the blending of current footage and VHS video at the very end. Bravo!
