Now that many of the post 9/11 border crossing problems are being resolved, it would be nice if you would revive the Chicago-Toronto International Limited, but route it via Detroit.
On of these videos will answer my curiosity.since train crews aren’t (apparently)capable of doing their job once they cross the border how do they get back across ei in Niagara Falls .Do they walk through the (passenger)cars mid bridge then continue on the rails i(if the train wasn’t long enough)Why for example is the American crew not able to go int Toronto and (I assume )return (I assume )within the hour.Seems like a lot of unnecessary musical chairs to me.
I crossed the border into Canada three years ago, but if was on the West Coast. Instead of the Adirondack or Maple Leaf, I had to board a bus from King Street Station in Seattle in the dead of night from Coast Starlight to cross through Blaine, WA into Canada to head to Vancouver. Had to pass through customs, fill out forms, and all in the middle of a rainstorm. What an experience.
they are actually trying to make coast starlight go through bellingham wa( the seacond last big city away from the canada border. lynden and ferndale are tied for first). which means you can just get a local wta bus or even bike for about 2 and half hours to the border.
@@kawansinghdhindsa why dont they just make it go all the way or facilitate an immediate cross platform connection to those wishing to go on to canada via the cascades
I lived in upstate NY during 9/11 and a month before that I decided to ride to Toronto for fun. I boarded at Utica, which has a historic station... saw the Falls in the daytime, and when got to the border I recall we never got off for customs. Mounties in red came onboard and checked our papers, I remember this because I thought it was just like the movies. This process you're showing here seems different. Anyway it was this trip that locked in a love for trains for life. It just takes one experience.
On the Adirondack you still stay on the train. But nowadays it's CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) officers instead of Mounties that come on the train. They wear standard dark blue police uniforms.
Are Canada and the USA at war? The way this video has been created makes it seem so. My train is routinely delayed by interference with the tracks or the right-of-way. How much “security” is Amtrak really providing within the USA? And your conductor thinks he’s still a cop?
Hi from Europe. Used the overnite Lake Shore Limited from Chicago to NYC last Sept after a conf in the windy city. Excellent. In 2025 I may travel from arrival by air in LAX or in S/Francisco to Seattle, again by Amtrak and after that conf there, pop up to Vancouver, by train if course. [ We have the wonderful Eurostar and trans european trains here, including overnite sleepers eg Brussels (off the high speed Eurostar from London) to, say, Berlin. ] best wishes from a train buff..
I cancelled my VIA rail round trip from Toronto to Vancouver by way of New York. During the height of the pandemic. It would be great to see the Amtrak services to Canada restored soon.
While crossing the Canadian border on Amtrak between Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC, I noticed when we were pulling into the Vancouver, BC depot that the specific track we were on was fenced off on both sides (with barbed wire). That started about a mile or so before we entered the station block. What was absolutely absurd though, was the fact that the train had been operating at a speed of about 5mph for the previous hour or so all through Vancouver. Certainly slow enough for anyone wanting to sneak into Canada to simply step off the train before reaching the final station stop. Any real security was just a joke.
It will never not be funny that you can take a single train from Aldershot (the station located near Hamilton, Ontario) to New York City but not to Ottawa.
The Adirondack is still not running between NYP and Montreal and I have seen no date for it to resume. This also eliminates travel within NY above Fort Edward through to Rouses Point,
Not long ago I took the Maple leaf to Toronto. We crossed into Canada without ever seeing anyone at all from the US customs. The Canadians came on board to check passports etc. The strange thing was that as a non US citizen or Canadian (I'm a New Zealander) I was given a green card to keep in my passport when I arrived in the US and apparently was supposed to surrender it when I left the US. When I re-entered from Canada I went through a lot of questioning about why I still had it. They thought I must've left the US illegally via a back road or something. Not a pleasant experience
@@theamazinghippopotomonstro9942 The opposite? So I thought as I read your post that the train runs as a VIA train north of Niagara Falls (Canadian side) using Amtrak equipment then it runs as an Amtrak train the rest of the way
it's because the canadian features on via are different. like in the US, sanders are mandatory on US locomotives, but in canada like the via f40's and p42's they don't have sanders so they can't be in the US.
I have a Question when I have a valid ESTA Number for USA and I am in US , can I travel also by train to Canada or must I make Aplication for new Canada Eta Number ????

It's a repost of an old video, Ron the VIA Rail service manager is doing Toronto-Windsor now.

We will make Amtrak Great Again!!!!!
I think they desperately need to add new things. Such as TV at every seat/room, redo the rooms, and increase more amenities on the trains

Going to Vancouver is easy. You go through Canadian customs at the train station.

Used to take the train from Chicago to Toronto all the time. Wish it were still possible to do that.
You still can, from each city’s respective Union Stations. Two train swaps and a total of 21 hours, for around 450 USD.

Hey Amtrak: If this is so good and seamless why isn't the Adirondack running to Montreal?
Because the tracks needed repairs.
