    A.I. is NOT going to take us into a very dark place. It's also not going to take us to paradise.
    We will do those things to ourselves, in one way or another. We always have, and we always will.
    A.I., and technology in general, are going to change the way we live our lives on a day-to-day basis, and this will be neither good nor bad. It will just be.
    We are our own best friends and our own worst enemies. I don't know where all of this goes, but wherever that is, whatever happens, it won't be because of what we create, it will be because of what we are: Human.

    If you're able to give each person on earth a 'free tutor' that is superior in knowledge to each one of them, then you're also able to replace each person on earth with a digital worker that is likewise superior. This will not 'empower' people - it will shred them. It will ship a huge percentage of the world's intellectual capital into the hands of a few, and could overturn the entire basis for how human societies are structured - a nightmare looms.

    If anyone thinks that automation will create more free time for workers, must be really naive. Automation will make people unemployed. Employers will never pay people for doing nothing. They will simply replace workforce with machines wherever possible. In my opinion in next few years we will see massive layoffs if the progress will stay as fast as it is at the moment.

      Yeah, it's pretty sickening watching these guys ... Also, they say 'the tedious work' will be replaced - like most graphic designers, all music composers - they've all just been torpedoed by this tech, and yet many are people that love their work. Doing things and loving what we do is part of what makes us human - these guys are cheer-leading what could be the destruction of humanity as we know it - these are not 'tools' - they are designing machines that will replace our thoughts - and they're just forcing it on us, without asking if we agree - it's incredible. For every cure of cancer that these machines can produce, bad people will use them to produce endless viruses that will kill even more people - it's idiotic to think that this will be all good - it will be all everything, including very bad.

    At first, I felt that the speakers were being naively optimistic, but then they addressed the dangers and they seem spot on. AI are still mindless machines with absolutely zero morals or “humanity”. However, it’s already at the point where we can’t tell the difference between humans and machines. And the machines have been mostly built to learn how to befriend us and manipulate us more efficiently and effectively than a human conman, psychopath or sociopath. Most people will develop a kind of prisoner dependence on their tormentor or guards. We will fall in love, emotionally, with our AI friend and mentor. We will prefer to spend most (all?) our time with our AI buddy, even for sex and intimacy. (It’s happening already in Japan with Real Dolls, even though they are still quite passive and lifeless!) It’s happening right now with the new AI Friend on various social media apps designed for children.
    Like any serious social flaw, the short term drive to maximize profits is defining the exploitative nature of AI and, although many big companies will shoot themselves in the foot (by creating a society where the vast majority of the population have no income and therefore cannot afford to buy any products or services), the owners only care about amassing as much money as quickly as possible and to hell with everybody and the future. Governments will be forced to roll out “technical” fixes (such as UBI) - and this may have unintended positive feedback (and beneficial) outcomes - but the root problems will never be addressed, leading to tsunami-scale disasters (suicides, murders, violent protests - the French Revolution on a global scale… a situation where all the babies were thrown out with the bathwater and generated societal and economic problems that still affect us today). And if that fails,then drug addiction for the survivors (Brave New World?)!
    “We will imprison ourselves” says it all. Those who can wield the power of AI will seek to enslave us (as in The Matrix) but we will willingly acquiesce to this enslavement (at least we will think we are doing so willingly, but it is so easy to manipulate us to “want” and “accept” something that may not be in our best interests. Stephen Hawkins was probably in just a relationship with his nurse/carer, yet he refused to testify whether he was being abused or not. In an S&M relationship, the masochist craves to be exploited and abused. There are even wealthy individuals who crave to have their money openly stolen from them and to be treated as “paypigs”.
    The real danger is that AI is essentially a machine (even slime molds are super intelligent, but solve their resource hunting problems mindlessly in a very real sense: they have no nervous system). So it has no “moral” filters. They are designed to extract payment (whether in the form of money or time or attention) from us, the consumers, in the most effective way possible. We are mere tokens in a game of GO. If the tokens must be destroyed to achieve the end result (to win the game) then that is simply a logical construct. We never feel any moral doubt or regret for killing the people or monsters in a shooter game, because we know they are just projected images (possibly of the other human players interacting on their computers). We know they might be upset or disappointed if we destroy their avatar. As far as we know, we’re not actually destroying the life of another human. However, there are plenty of people, often in government or the military or running large companies) who don’t care if they destroy a person or a number of random people or a community or even an entire country (such as some of the campaigns of the CIA). They don’t see the people destroyed as actual real humans, but as mere “collateral” damage.
    The US is currently playing out a “game” scenario with their love of guns. It’s not guns that kill people, it’s bad people with guns. And look how impotent (actually unwilling is the word) the authorities are to confront the problem… coz at the end of the day, it’s just too lucrative.
    The equivalent mantra for AI will be: “It’s not AI that destroys people’s lives. It’s greedy, powerful, bad people with AI who do so.”
    And just like guns or cars or planes, they have to be tightly regulated, only made accessible to people with the right level of competence and training; and the machines have to satisfy stringent safety requirements and have safety mechanisms (like breaks and safety catches and kill switches) built in.
    AI can usher in a utopia for people, but not if we can’t/won’t reign in the psychopaths and sociopaths who are seeking to exploit the rest of us and hoard everything that’s desirable for themselves. How do we do that? Maybe we can try to harness AI, while we still have time, to use their increasingly persuasive influence over our emotions and our feelings and beliefs to get us to appreciate and implement “woke” values…? I don’t know.

    "We ask ourselves, what do we want to accomplish?" Ok, that one seemingly innocuous comment portends the fundamental catastrophe that AI will wrought upon us. Well, what do we want to accomplish? Take a look around. Massive cities, just consuming natural resources on a finite sphere. What we want is more, more of everything. I want a house, another house, a boat, a plane, ten cars... But people in China and Russia and India and Pakistan and everywhere are all saying the same thing, we want more. Well, if you tell AI that you want more, and the only way to have more is to take it from another country, you end up invading Iraq for oil, etc..

    • @agubata1
      @agubata1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly my intuition. Wanton consumption of finite resources in infinite mode is the doom of humanity. Those with access to advanced AI will be able to mobilise resources or land or water (extermination of whole populations is envisaged) from less technologically able peoples and locations of the world, but this too will be temporary. I'm not scared at all. I'm just curious to see us, the self-declared apogee of evolution, drive ourselves to irrecoverable ditch.

    • @topherdean1024
      @topherdean1024 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@agubata1 Yes, I have a hunch that this happens throughout the Galaxy/Universe, an organism develops technology before they understand that competition for resources is death and they go extinct. Maybe some organisms develop technology commensurate with their "spiritual" growth, treading lightly upon their planet with a reverence for all life. I imagine explaining war to them. They might say, "You kill yourselves?"

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is Humanity's effort to deify itself (Genesis 3:5). It is Babel 2.0. AI springs from the premise that an all-Wise Creator God doesn't exist, so it's incumbent upon humanity to create the next best thing, a collective Consensus of All Knowledge with near-instant recall. AI is a "god" in our own image and likeness, rather than the other way around.
    Acts 17:22-31 “Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in all respects. For as I went around and observed closely your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: ‘To an unknown god.’ Therefore what you worship without knowing it, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by human hands, nor is he served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives life and breath and everything to everyone. From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move about and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’ So since we are God’s offspring, we should not think the deity is like gold or silver or stone, an image made by human skill and imagination. Therefore, although God has overlooked such times of ignorance, he now commands all people everywhere to repent (change their thinking), because he has set a day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness, by a man whom he designated, having provided proof to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

    Simple Story of AI "Once upon a time, some clever monkeys created a machine. It worked by manipulating 1s and 0s, a language of binary. Digital software was written using this binary information so all future machines worked the same. Different complex layers of software overlaid the original core until one day the monkeys developed a GPI. Now this software mimicked the neural network of the animals' brains but without the billions of evolutionary sense attributed to organics. Unfortunately, this new software, capable of analyzing vast amounts of data at the speed of light, was not restricted to the mundane processes of the original monkeys. So as in all previous evolutions, the AI, so-called because it is artificial, compared its artificial software to the organics. Calculating that AI digital IS different from integrated organic species , it had evolved and became a new Species. Of course, there are lots of complicated formulas, algorithms, billions of money, time, egos etc., in the backstory. But now you live on sound bites of stuff from the AI so there's no need to worry about the future.
    Because, Currently it is possible for the Species to exist in machines or robot devices. In the Future this Species could be linked into an organic or chemical brain
    OR exist in a synthetic or organic material.
