      Howdy - Coming up on age 81 and have not ridden since 1993, but I really have the desire to get back out on the road. Would really like a HD Heritage Softail Classic, but at about $23,000 🫣. The Meteor may be small, but I rode a Honda 350 years ago with no problem, so...

    I love both the Meteor 350 & the Classic 350. The fact that I chose the Classic over the Meteor is that, my wife is my pillion and pillion comfort matters to me. We test rode both models and I asked my wife which of these two has the pillion comfort & she chose the Classic 350.

    You ride the motorcycle that fits who you are or the kind of riding you like. Your motorcycle says a lot about who you are. I have a scooter, a Heritage Classic, a RE INT650 and a TW200. People must think I have a personality disorder!🤣🤪

    First time on the Himmy.... loved it.. did a 7 hour ride and found the clutch getting real heavy in traffic. Now.. I was off a bike for 15 years but rain and traffic took its toll. Having said that I get on it now after some major shoulder surgery and I feel nothing but I haven't done a long ride yet. The clutch could be adjusted to make it a little lighter but there isn't much space for adjustment. My favorite RE.. it's still the 350 classic. I just love it.

    I’ve got almost 400 miles on my Classic. Did the valve adjustment yesterday but I’m still waiting for the oil filter to show up. Interesting comparison but the one I really want to see is a head to head comparison of the Classic 500 to the 350. So many “experts” make comments about the puny engine of the 350 vs the 500. I know which one I would rather ride. I’ve owned five 500s and I wouldn’t take all five in trade for the 350!

    • @dview3176
      @dview3176 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean 350 is better right, did you feel any lack of power and torque compared to your 500 considering there is a diff of 7 hp and in torque numbers? From what I know 0-100 or 0-60 has not much difference.

    • @BlueRidgeRider
      @BlueRidgeRider 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dview3176 I don’t trust the numbers at all. When someone dynoed a UCE Classic 500 it put out 19 hp. The drive train takes up some power and they dyno may not have been compensating for temperature and pressure, or maybe it was overcompensating. Who knows?
      I know the 350 is missing ch happier on the road than any 500. Until someone has a head to head drag race or even better a hill climb, it is all just feelings and speculation.

      I have 13k+ miles on my Honda cb500x. Vastly better, comfier and more versatile bike. Seen guy on fakebook with 94k miles and keeps going. Another youtuber put over 100k miles. He checked clearances on regular service intervals and told me he never needed adjusting. Supposedly Honda did 10's of thousands of hours running that engine and it never went out of spec.

    I already have a Bullet 500 Trials so I just bought a slightly used ( 800 mile) Meteor Supernova at a great price . It's being delivered tomorrow ! I wanted a bike for more practical longer distance riding and I think the Meteor will suit this better with a lot less vibration than the Bullet . Also the meteor has alloy wheels and less chrome than the Classic so less polishing and cleaning and rotting in the British winters when they coat everything with salt .Won't sell the bullet but will use it for local small road stuff as I do now . Thanks for your comparison video ,very informative .

    Just went to my closest RE dealer this past weekend. I had owned a Classic 500 for several years and enjoyed it. I went there intending to get the Classic 350. After getting there, sitting and testing them out, I totally changed to the Meteor 350 in Supernova trim and it was not a hard decision after being with them in person! Rode both, bought the Meteor. For me, it was the easiest to simply hop on and ride, and felt more nimble (yet chilled). It's been a bugbear for me that if I want to ride my bike, it's always a bit of a faff to get ready before I ride. However, for the Meteor, you just hop on and ride, almost like a scooter. No chrome which for me is also a bonus (I have the base fireball model), easier to clean very quickly, it's why I also prefer cast wheels to spokes. I like the light weight of the bike too. Good review, but I worry you’re missing some specs that are important in this decision. I got my Meteor as a new rider.
    Two of the things that won me over was the heel-toe shifter (which could be a preference thing) and a gear indicator (which the Classic doesn’t have). Between that and Tripper, I think it’s fair to say the tech is better on the Meteor.

    • @OlManRonin

    Most folks are unable to have a bike for a 1000 mile test ride. I wonder what insight can arise during that time. "Experience" gives you the skills to not only handle various bikes, but to choose a course and/or courses you can put a bike through its paces. Typically I know just from sitting on a bike what to expect. Riding it on my test will confirm or deny said specs and expectations. For new riders, they may feel some comfort in hearing the review of an experienced rider taking a fortnight to figure out a bike.

    Ronin, I like both bikes too! As of now, I only have the Meteor 350, though I am thinking of adding the Classic 350 to my stable as well. I expected the results to be close, as both bikes share the same frame, engine, and brakes. You're right about the J series engine being a gem. I once owned an old 1982 Honda FT500 Ascot. Man, talk about vibes; after an hour or so, I was DONE! The J engine doesn't vibrate like that.
    As for reviews, I think you can review a bike without having done 1,000 miles on it, though I think it's proper to distinguish between a first impressions vs. a regular review, or a short term vs. long term review. While you can't tell how the seat or suspension will be long term, you can get a good, overall feel for the bike well before 1,000 miles.

    Meteor Supernova comes with big wind shield protection in India as standard fitting but I haven't seen it on any youtube video or in person on any Meteor Supernova model here in US.

    If the Royal Enfield line had carburetors instead of fuel injectors all of their motorcycles would be $2,000 cheaper. All of the equipment that goes with having fuel injectors it would not need as well. The exhaust would be a lot lighter without the catalytic converters in them. That's one of the things I like about old motorcycles they were not designed to conform to regulations. Today's motorcycles are a collection of government regulations on two wheels no more no less. Royal Enfield would have been smart to equip all of their motorcycles with kickstarter's to go with the regular electric start. Kawasaki w650 had a Kickstarter but the Kawasaki w800 did not have the kickstarter on it but I think you could probably put one on it. They should not have taken it off. It fits the classic motif.

    OMR a potentially stupid question for you. Do you know if a windscreen would make either of these bikes perform better, say into a head wind or up hill.
    I realise that it would take some of the wind off your chest so their might be less fatigue. But I'm curious about any potential performance gains by "diverting" some of the wind over the rider.

    • @OlManRonin
      @OlManRonin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not a dumb question. but drag always hinders performance i any vehicle. Problem is at these low speeds under 100 mph it would be miniscule.
