    Where to start well if you want to install it wrong this is definitely the video for you. First of all VCT does not need to expand when you’re glued properly it will stay where it’s late. The trowel you used to spread the glue was for glue down carpet and you should glue the whole floor or maybe half If you’re a beginner.And filling the cracks with paintable silicone is the absolute worst you clearly did not sweep your floor well enough either from the lighting of all the debris telescoping through,nothing was done right. So your batting 1000.

    Yesterday I followed these instructions and what a mess I have today. No where is it mentioned that the adhesive should sit in open air for 30 to 90 minutes to get tacky and should be nearly dry to the touch before placing tiles. I currently have wet glue oozing from the seams and will have to run my AC in cold March to try to dry out the excess moisture so it will dry.

      Glad you mentioned the wait-time for the adhesive. We did our first VCT job today and we let the glue change color before laying the tile. The adhesive basically turned clear when it was ready.

    Because of the maintenance required this is not the cheapest floor you can instal. Not only do you need to strip off the finish that it comes with from the manufacture with. But you should be stripping and reapplying finish every year. Most people don't have the time or knowledge to do these steps.

    3/16" notches on the trowel are way to big for VCT adhesive you'll be waiting overnight to become tacky., use a 1/16" x 1/16" notch trowel .This guy has WAY too much adhesive on the floor.. Never start in a corner either. I have yet to see all 4 walls square in any room. If you're out just a 1/16" on the first tile, you gain or lose 1/16" on each tile and might be off 1/2" or more when you get to the end of the run of the last tile.

    That one gallon of adhesive should go about 300 square feet, the way you were spreading that on you probably ran out at about 20 square feet. i will set up in 6 months if you're lucky.And never start the first tile in a corner.........if you're off a 1/16" on the first tile and go 16 feet ,you'll be off 1 inch from the wall at the other end. ,then the tile will get worse as you go along.... Did you snap a caulk line? I didnt see it because you put too much glue down for it to dry clear so you could see a caulk line.

    • @BrandonMcGee1
      @BrandonMcGee1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Michael, the best way to remove the tile is to cut straight threw the middle of the tile with a razor blade and then. Use a thin flexible scraper to pry the tile from the middle out. This way you won't mess up the tile edges on the surrounding tile. Some times if the floor is not that old you can lightly heat the tile with a heat gun to reactivate the glue under the tile and then use a thin scraper to pry around the tile edges. Also don't forget to scrape the glue off the floor the best you can or else the tile maybe higher than the rest.
      Good luck! Hope this helps

    I am not a fan of hating but please for the love of God nobody listen to this guy he will ruin your floor for many reasons including durability and looks nothing will lineup when you just start off of a wall maybe this is good enough for some shitty basement that no one is ever going to see or walk into at that point you're better off just leaving yet with no flooring
