  • Belden Village Mall is a much more lively mall in an impacted area of Ohio. An area that's notorious for its dead malls. Let's get a look at a live mall in these precarious times.

    Love the Dillards brick work inside and oh that tulip canopy outside is amazing.

    A healthy mall in arguably the capital of dead malls? Nice to see a thriving mall in the area Doomz.

    Another Friday, another Doomie video. Looks like a nice mall.

    There are 3 lights along the brick wall by the food court I always stop to look at . . . and you walked right by them 😅. Either way last time I was there there were only 3 empty storefronts, so I give them credit for staying full. And I agree with you on all the jive at the end . . . sadly we are all in for a ride, like it or not . . .

    Thanks for sharing and for the background info on this mall. I agree with all your comments through out 🙂 While its nice to see this mall is still thriving, I have never seen a mall yet that was improved by all the circa 1990 - 2000 refurbs. They ripped out every feature that made malls a magical place to visit. Turned them in to hospital waiting rooms. And wondered why people don’t enjoy them as much.

    I took your advice and looked up some vintage photographs of the Mall from the '70s, and wow! It's a bit tacky, even by '70s standards, but it's so distinctive and daring - especially compared to the bland non-aesthetic of the modern mall - that it's overwhelmingly charming. A really pity they couldn't keep *at least* those staghorn fern chandeliers.

    This WAS the coolest mall BEFORE it was remodeled in the 80’s. It had amazing fountains which created a beautiful white noise throughout. I loved how dark the mall was & the green glazed tile work along the planters beneath the fountains. And the stores -they were cool too & regional. I grew up at this mall. Walking in the main entrance…. York Steak House on the right followed by Camelot Records, The GNC, Aladin’s Arcade & on the left was the H&R Bank, the Pet Store & The Toy Store. There was Ups-n-Downs, The Parisian -with the coolest dressing rooms & all that lime green carpet. Spencers, The Gap, The Limited, Higbee’s, Hales, Stearn & Mann’s… And the two story Burger King!! 👑 🙌🏽

    Great video, as usual! The brickwork by the food court, and the Macy’s facade were epic. Love the late 60s/early 70s vibe, especially on the exterior of the anchors.

    Nothing better than walking thru the Malls with you and your comments!! I'm 56 and totally enjoyed all the '80's & '90's provided for us! Keep the 'goose bumps' going for me! Bless Your Heart!

    Good video Doomie, I enjoyed it. The mall itself looks like one of the nicer malls you have covered since the great shutdown of 2020. Don't know much about the area, but it probably has benefited by being the only mall in the area, in this era of having to many malls for the population. Now if only the owners can keep it that way.

      The problem was probably overmalling and Belden got lucky and killed Canton Center and was far enough away from Summit

    Inflation is way out of control, malls are going to be hurting once again very soon.
    This mall is pretty healthy, bit I agree that the colors are bland. The vintage department stores save this place from total 🤮

    Great video! Even though the renovation kind of sucks, it’s great to see a survivor in the Canton area. A notorious area for malls that are just extremely dead

    Live malls like these are the reason I always roll my eyes when people are like “AMAZON this, ONLINE that.” I bet if anyone showed them this mall they would make some random excuse.

    • @PaleOpal21
      @PaleOpal21 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      💯 Online accounts for 15 percent of shopping and Amazon is a less than half a percent of that. In fact Amazon's revenue is currently the worst in the last twenty years.

    • @iworkout6912
      @iworkout6912 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PaleOpal21 I don't think Amazon has ever made money?? But everyone does some buying on line, and Amazon is the best on a great website and delivery service. Of course go back 40 years in your time machine, and tell people that KMart will fade away, they would laugh at you, no way.

    • @cecuniversity
      @cecuniversity 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@iworkout6912 I remember hearing a story that someone at Sears pitched that they should have an online presence and he was then laughed out the company.

      Amazon is huge, but measured by revenues it's half the size of Walmart and not all that far ahead of Costco.

    Ah yes. I love Belden Village Mall. I find it so nice there is a mall in Canton. I am completely attached to this mall and I just might have depression if it closes. I really like how Pacific is keeping the mall interesting with it's events like the recent Taste For The Space cook-off where instead of boring corporate phone calls, Pacific used a fun summer food party and community votes to get a new food tenant. THAT, community inclusion, shall keep malls open until the end of time, Amazon can never give us real genuine human connection.

    Awesome mall. It'd be even better if they would've kept FYE and Gamestop. I used to love shopping here until FYE got replaced with a dumb Forever 21 and Gamestop closed here. Really traumatized. No FYE and Gamestop here really defeats the whole purpose of me coming here. Forever 21 can suck it for taking FYE away from us. R.I.P. FYE at Belden Village Mall and at Southern Park Mall in Boardman, Ohio.
    UPDATE: I just found out there's now an FYE in Belden Village Mall.

    just bought my dance dress from the dillards there (it’s black velvet with rhinestones and GLOVES) literally last night. Two years ago my grandma took me here for my birthday. in the span of those two years, the amount of people has changed DRASTICALLY. There are way more people now then when this video was filmed.

    Lock N Load, across from the old Sears (now Dicks, Dave and Busters, and Golf Galaxy) used to be a Babbages back in the 90s/2000s. I can't tell you how many times I went to that store.

    I’ve lived in the region of Belden Village most of my life, and while I’m glad that BV is still healthy, I do miss what made mallgoing in My youth. There are no more KBs, no more Radio Shacks, no WaldenBooks, no General Cinemas, no more Babbage’s. Just clothing stores and Department stores that I’d rather not visit.
    But BV is still standing, where Canton Centre/Mellett, Rolling Acres, Carnation, and Chapel Hill have fallen.
    But if you want to see where the future of retail lie, go north. To The Strip.

    That mall was a part of my childhood and teens I remember when there was no food court only a Burger King yes burger King where the food court is now also there was a movie theater inside the mall where I first watched the first Star Wars and Saturday night fever in the day that was a very hustling place lots of people walking down through that mall and you could hardly find a place to park during the Christmas time
