Every time I read or see anything about this tragedy my heart is crushed for little Emmett. He was still a little boy! There is no way a 13/14 year old boy, especially a black boy in the 1950s, would grab a woman, a white woman, by the waist and be vulgar. Maybe a whistle on a dare but I even doubt that. What they did to that child is unspeakable, consider the pain and terror he felt. It’s just so wrong. I do believe in letting the past stay in the past but not things like this. What gets me is that Carolyn Durant is still alive and the last probe by the FBI did not find reason enough to prosecute her for any of the crimes even though she was definitely there the night Emmett was kidnapped by these thugs. RIP Emmett God knows the truth and these thugs will be punished.

Every time I read or see anything about this tragedy my heart is crushed for little Emmett. He was still a little boy! There is no way a 13/14 year old boy, especially a black boy in the 1950s, would grab a woman, a white woman, by the waist and be vulgar. Maybe a whistle on a dare but I even doubt that. What they did to that child is unspeakable, consider the pain and terror he felt. It’s just so wrong. I do believe in letting the past stay in the past but not things like this. They have to be remembered and re-told again and again so that we never forget, if we forget, it will happen again and again. His poor mother, his family and friends. They make poor excuses about embracing the monuments of the confederacy. You can also see it clearly in their voting patterns. Poor whites vote against their own best interest, primarily because of race. When Obama ran for President, you had a lot of white Democrats that wouldn't vote for him in the deep south. The south still has a serious racial divide.

Lamont, Emmett's murder was the most horrendous miscarriage of justice of the last century. His mother died not too long ago. I think we all know she suffered terrible for the rest of her life. I believe the wife should have been charged and of course the should all have gone to prison.

What gets me is that Carolyn Durant is still alive and the last probe by the FBI did not find reason enough to prosecute her for any of the crimes even though she was definitely there the night Emmett was kidnapped by these thugs. RIP Emmett God knows the truth and these thugs will be punished.
at least charge her with perjury/lying in court or premeditated murder/accessory to murder which led to emmett tills death. it's not that difficult. I know shes old but she should pay in jail.
