This is a great choice for most families. Its capabilities offroad match-up nicely to the way MOST folks use these vehicles and its city/highway manners far exceed those of more dedicated offroad types. My son bought a new Wilderness several months back and has been very happy with it.

Get the base 2.5 if you want great MPG.

After our experience with a brand new Outback in 2016, we said no for the new model. We had one for an extended period while ours was in the shop for extensive repairs due to poor build quality. The safety beams in all 4 doors had to be rewelded because they weren't properly welded at the factory. 4 years into ownership and the doors started rattling, one by one in order of use. The rattling doors was our final straw after years of other problems putting it into the shop for extended periods.

The 75-80 dragway closed to the public years ago. Motorweek continued to test their vehicles there up until this year. The track was starting to be in disrepair, the area on the sides of the track were overgrown with weeds. There was a plan to revive the track for racing this year but that fell through apparently. In the end, they moved to the Mason-Dixon Dragway which is well maintained in comparison.
