Should be thick and pliable. Note: too hard was not that hard. The filter will expand aa it gets hot and that's when it can leak.

    I use Castrol Edge “Unlock Maximum Performance”. It has the same ACEA C5 standard called out for the approved Mobil 1 Dexos D. The difference is, Castrol didn’t pay the extra funds - to become an exclusive GM approved product.

    • @markshep03
      @markshep03  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching. Castrol edge is a GTL based oil so it’s similar to the ACDelco oil. It’s really not comparable to the Mobil ESP oil.
      I often hear people say oil meets a spec but the company won’t pay for to be GM approved. Every major oil supplier that has an oil will get theirs approved because it opens up their sales. Proof is, if you look at the list of Dexos 1 oils they include every major supplier, including Castrol.
      Further proof, Castrol does have an approved oil for these trucks, it’s the Castrol edge turbo diesel. So if their standard edge meets the spec, it too would be listed as an approved product.

    Is this a 100% synthetic oil?

    • @markshep03
      @markshep03  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Short answer is, yes. Any 0W-20 oil will be synthetic.
      Here's the catch. "Synthetic" was redefined a few years back after a few lawsuits. Before that time the only true synthetic oil was oil made with PAO. Now, many oils even those made from natural gas can be considered "synthetic". Most "synthetic" oils today do not have PAO because its very expensive. This oil has 20-30 % PAO and 50-60% GTL. The factory "synthetic" is 70-80% GTL and no PAO.
      Another company that claims to be full "synthetic" is Amsoil. However their oil for these trucks doesn't even have PAO, which is kind of a joke. PAO is the best, highest quality oil.
      Hope this helps, and thank you for watching!

    • @camsteremail
      @camsteremail ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve known about this for years sometimes I will get motul for my motorcycle a true synthetic but it’s insanely expensive but it’s one of the true synthetics for bikes but as for my lm2 I use the manufacture oil I get it from gm I wonder with the truck being a diesel I think it’s probably a highly refined oil and not a true synthetic but I just wonder how good of a oil they make.

    • @dlg5485
      @dlg5485 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. Very few oils are 100% ester based synthetic (Motul, Amsoil, etc) but they don't meet the spec. Most synthetic oils still use conventional base stock. That said, this ESP X2 is superior to the OEM dexos2, in my opinion, and this is what I will use when I get my LZ0. Bottom, line, if it doesn't say "100% synthetic" or "ester based" it's not 100% synthetic.

    • @BigBadAllis
      @BigBadAllis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dlg5485 I know this is an old reply. Where did you pull the ester based product from in this conversation. The Mobil 1 products area all 100% PAO based products. Even the OEM Dexos is made by Mobil except for the factory fill. Factory fill is actually made by Shell, but service fill (dealers and stores) GM (AC Delco) is blended by Mobil. Ester based products are very high premium base stock and primarily used in Europe. Ester is not compatible with PAO or any other base stock products. Once you install an ester based product, you should not go to any other product without a complete system flush.
      Any oil threads always get heated and lot of peoples feelings get hurt. There's some good facts out there but even more bad information. The reality is that any nationally branded oil the meets the dexos D will be absolutely fine for your engines.

  • @CitizenOfBabylon
    @CitizenOfBabylon ปีที่แล้ว +2

    0w-20 is why you have "oil burning" issues, it's meant for "fuel economy" to please epa. Use 5w-30 after break-in and oil consumption will go away.

    • @markshep03
      @markshep03  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! There are many of these trucks that don’t burn any oil. So if it was the oil only causing the issue it would happen to the all. There is a TSB to replace the valve cover on some of these because it causes the engine to burn oil.

    • @ZmannR2
      @ZmannR2 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Wrong. Don’t change manufacturers recommended weight. Gale Banks has a video on this and says do NOT change the weight of oils.

    • @BrianNC81
      @BrianNC81 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ZmannR2 I agree I would stick with the 0w20 especially while under warranty. I don't think using a heavier weight oil to top off between oil changes would hurt anything since such a small amount isn't going to drastically impact the weight of the overall blend in the sump. It might actually restore some of the sheering if you top off with something like a 5w30 or a 0w40. If you're 0w20 sheered down to a 0w18, adding some 30 or 40 weight oil to the top off might restore some of the viscosity and bring it back closer to a 20w.
