    I've had mine for 6 months and it's a great bit of kit . I use 2 x 5ah batteries . One cutting and one on charge . Its paid for itself as I've done 3 jobs for friends , cutting / pruning leylandii , cherry trees and an old diseased apple tree . It gets thru a lot of oil , a litre every 15 hours of use I'd say . It's easily maintained . Cuts everything . On hardwoods it doesn't struggle , just take your time . I wear goggles and head/face guard and work trousers . It's not a toy . £159 in UK .

    I bought mine a year ago on sale for $99. After Ida came through Louisiana I couldn't get my gas chainsaw to run so I used this saw to completely top a 102 ft Water Oak. Don't worry about the new pricing it's worth the money

    congratulations nice video. I think it's a little gem. With the same bar length I was also thinking about Makita which now has a line with 40v batteries. however it is more expensive in my country and I honestly don't know if it has a torque like this dewalt which has a lower speed but I see that even with hardwoods it doesn't give up.

    I would go walk a mile of fence to find a downed tree that was letting the animals out, process the whole ~10" tree on 1 6Ah battery and fix the fence. In the mud, rain, snow. Very reliable and never let me down.
    My one complaint, which comes second to reliability, is the speed. Which is why I kinda wish DeWalt would make a FlexVolt version of this very saw. Their 60V attachment-capable pole saw I think is faster than the 12" chainsaw.
    I'm looking into this next generation of top handles such as the upcoming Milwaukee (2023?). If it's as reliable, yet faster, I might treat myself. But that still is not a criticism of this ole' workhorse's reliability.

      That’s good feedback mate!
      I guess I don’t use mine as often as you, but I like that the unit is light, easy to use and no fuel smell. I do keep a small inverter and charger the Land Rover for extended trips.
      I feel the same as you about the speed. But my other issue is the constant oil drip. But I suppose all chainsaws use oil. I keep it wrapped in an old towel in a thick plastic bag.
      Thanks for watching !

    Should I get this or a Stihl 170 as a chainsaw beginner, for trimming bigger branches of trees?

    • @campingbegins
      @campingbegins  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, apologies for the late reply I didn't see the notification. To be honest I love Stihl gear. The main difference here is that the DeWalt is battery, the 170 is petrol. Personally I opted to not have to carry petrol around which can be messy and smelly. Good luck

  • @willskijza80
    @willskijza80 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does it leak bar oil when stored? I've had a Stihl petrol chainsaw and an ozito pole pruner chainsaw and they both leak bar oil - I'm not sure if i'm storing incorrectly, its just a chainsaw thing, or if its a particular brand thing.....

    • @campingbegins
      @campingbegins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mate! I've had a few chainsaws over the years some petrol, electric and battery they all leak oil in one way or the other. This one does leak a little, not very much though. I actually keep it sat down on a level shelf and in a heavy plastic bag ( an old large K-mart bag lol). There is a video on here about putting an 'O' ring around the filler plug. I imaging it does help but i'm not finding it a massive issue. Cheers.

      True leaks oil every where I'm a Handyman and get heaps of little trimming jobs Works Extremely well for lightweight domestic trees up to 12 inch diameter
      I had spinal surgery in mid December so using heavy vibrating petrol ⛽️ chainsaws is a big no no
      picked up 8 x 90mm thick x 600 wide x 3m Red Gum slabs for firewood cut into 500mm lengths Used 2 batteries I had just reshaped chain before starting Great little week end part time gardening saw

      Leaks like a sieve. I now pour the oil back into a storage container after use and put some paper towels under it. A little work, but keeps it from making a mess.

      Mine leaks too & I've even fitted an additional O ring. Store mine on a shelf with oil cap up & it's fine, stored with cap to the side & it'll leak

    Great saw and video. I have the same saw and find when cutting stuff it cuts well but leaves a splintered look to the wood on finishing the cut. Is this normal?

    • @campingbegins
      @campingbegins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt, I think this is normal, however probably will change depening on the type of wood. Also, my mate upgraded his chain from the stock chain and gets really clean cuts. Shapening will help too.

      @@campingbegins Ath ok that's fair enough but I use my Saw for tree pruning and stuff so need a clean cut.
      I noticed that the chain that comes with it is an oregan chain which are good chains in my experience so will see if it improves with good sharpening. Maybe it needs bedding in a bit as it's a brand new chain!

    Do you have any issues with oil leak while storage?

    • @campingbegins
      @campingbegins  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. There is definitely some oil leakage while stored, not much but there is some. I keep it stored in a heavy duty plastic bag which helps. I've had a few chainsaws in my time and they have all leaked one way or another. I've seen some videos about 'fixing' with a rubber 'O' ring but this is not where is leaks from.
      Thanks for watching! 🤠

      @@campingbegins thank you very much for your reply. I found it very disappointingfrom a brand like this to have this issue. I had another one with like 60 euros and never had a leak. It is almost not usable for me. I cannot travel with dewalt in my trunk. I have to empty and refill every single time i have to use it... I cannot have even in storage. I sent it to service and they dont even admit that it leaks...

    How long do the batteries last before needing to recharge

    • @campingbegins
      @campingbegins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I suppose it depends on multiple factors... I didn't even use a full battery on this whole tree. But if this was a hard red-wood i'm sure you would need a recharge. We have 3 battery packs so it's not been an issue for us.

    • @campingbegins
      @campingbegins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Nick, it comes with a 4Ah battery, i did this tree in 2 charges. Each charge is around 1.5 hrs. Just got back from a 3 day camping trip and it lasted me all weekend cutting fire wood.
      I am however, looking at getting a 9Ah battery so I can charge it less often.

      Dewalt has a 6 ah charger that can reduce charge time for a 5 to less than an hour. I have two 9 ah 60 volts for a large hammer drill they make. Lots of rock out where i live so it was the only way i could get the t post into the ground. Anyways 1.5 hour charge for each of them and those batteries will keep the chain saw going longer than i can keep up.

    I sell this 18V (20V) dewalt and buy makita DUC254. I have too many tools from dewalt but this little 18V makita destroy this dewalt. makita is faster, smaller, lighter, NO OIL LEAK, one hand best balancing. But carrefoul, I was used adaptor from dewalt battery to this makita tool and one battery after fast discharged on this makita was destroyed (sound and smell :( ) Adaptors havent safety temperature and voltage pins (bypass on adaptors) and in high consumption (more than 30 Amperes..) can be dangerous... I buy two batteryes only for this makita tool. DUC254 is so cool compared to this smallest dewalt chainsaw ... (second "no yellow" tool is milwaukee multitool, dewalt is not bad but milwaukee multitool is beast..) Everything else from dewalt are great ...
