LandRover Discovery 4 Air Strut spring suspension fix LR032646W L319 LR3 LR4 Range Rover Sport L320
TOOL LIST & TIPS BELOW. ⬇️ In this video I show you how I swap out the FRONT AIR STRUT SUSPENSION SPRING Part number: LR032646W on my Land Rover Discovery 4. I'm not a qualified mechanic but I enjoy looking after my cars and these videos are to show that you can maintain a Land Rover on your driveway with basic tools and minimal cost £$💸
This is the SAME process for the: Discovery 3, LR3 2.7 TDV6 3.0TDV6, 3.0 SDV6 and the Range Rover Sport L320
As always, if you have any questions or comments please leave them below and I'll get back to you asap.
As always I have my DeWALT 18V XR 4.0Ah Li-Ion Brushless Combo Drill and Impact Driver kit, on hand ready for action!
I Hope you enjoy the video and it is helpful.
You'll also find us on INSTAGRAM @ camping_begins where we share our adventures and best deals we find for camping gear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOOL LIST:
Jacks and Jack-stand.
22mm Impact socket. (Wheel nuts)
Trim kit tools and PH2 Screwdriver or bit. (Remove wheel-arch liner)
12mm Spanner. (VOSS airline nut)
13mm Spanner. (Top strut nuts) I used a flexible head ratchet spanner mainly.
24mm and 21mm Spanners. (Long bolt through lower wishbone) I used a 24mm 'impact' socket as they have a long shaft to clear the protruding bolt shaft. I also used a long drive handle.
Long nose pliers.
Small side cutters / snips.
Torch.
Lump, Plastic, Rubber, Wood hammer / mallet.
Gloves.
and a nice cup of tea!
TIPS:
A: I removed the wheel arch liner but it's not 100% neccessary, I just feel it gives that little bit more room when working at ground level.
B: If you have a GAP or Diagnostic tool you should de-pressurise the system before working on the airline. I didn't.
C: In hindsight, it would be easier to remove the 12mm VOSS nut BEFORE the hard to reach 13mm nut as you will have more room to swing the 13mm spanner wrench.
D: Treat yourself to a beer because you just saved a fortune! 🤑

Thats actually a great idea! Thanks for watching 🤠
Are lithium ion jump starter pack better than AGM jump starter?? (Of equivalent levels and under identical conditions, where all factors being equal)
Hello, in my opinion: Apart from the objective being the same (to jump start the engine) the two are not really comparable. A Lithium jump starter is usually: light weight, high current, small form factor. An AGM Starter is usually: Contains an AGM Lead acid battery which are heavy, lower current and larger in size. 'Better' would have to be defined by your own circumstance. Have a look in my other video as I have an AGM unit previously... th-cam.com/video/xpisuPVvB4E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P2uBA6JUDg0XDcGL Thanks for watching 🤠
@campingbegins I meant if we compare the peak discharge capabilities, then which is better?? Which would provide more instantaneous peak surge current and would have more cranking power???
Well, in that case i think it's simple. As far as I know the only way you would get 1000amps from an AGM battery would be a full size car battery. I can't find any 'portable' AGM units that deliver more than 300 to 800amps. So the answer I believe (all things being equal), its the Lithium Ion are better.
@@campingbegins so all things being equal, is the lithium ion capable for delivering higher cranking power? Or higher instantaneous peak surge current?? Is it really true
Great video 👍 how did you find out you had a leaking suspension strut?
Hi, thanks for the compliment I really do appreciate the feedback mate! To cut a long story short, when ever I came to the car in the morning it looked like it was in Access height. Then after a holiday for a week, in the airport car park it was almost sat completely on the ground. I went for the 'cheaper' option first and changed the Front axle valve block which didn't change anything. So the next step was the struts. The LR dealer said I didn't need to change both, but seen as it was over 10 years old and I didn't want to get caught out while in the bush I decided to do the pair. I think it was the right thing to do. Expensive but most things are on these lol. Cheers!
Not sure about leaving the suspension in off road height, pretty sure any jacking should be done in access height and service light on.
Hi Gareth, Thanks for watching! Most things I have watched / read from LR Time, BritPart and Land Rover Magazines usually say to put the vehicle in Off Road height before jacking up. In this one I was using ramps anyway so didn't use the jack in this video. I suppose its down to opinion and good practice. However, what do you mean about the 'Service light on'? Cheers!
You need some commission, you just sold this to us first time campers
Thats great! I think you'll have a great time with this tent. This link is the 'pack down' video for when you need it lol. th-cam.com/video/5YXQaeFkG30/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eILX-pE8WxpTIZGQ Thanks for watching and keep camping! 🤠
I believe there's a torque setting for tightening the oil filter. 25nM I seem to recall. Yours looked a little tight coming off
Hey Gareth, you're bob on there mate! 25nm is correct. I don't have a Torque wrench but will be investing in one at some point. Thanks for watching!
Great titts.. I mean tips!
Land Rover weren't even trying. That could've been so much more difficult to do, that was way to easy. And the drain tap is there to drain water from the filter, so no worries in the middle of the Aus outback to access and drain it.
I agree Tony! They must try harder, the job is too easy 🤣🛠. Thanks for watching
Nice one. About to do mine but I think I'll prime it first to check fir leeks before refitting the heat shields. Is there any easy job on any LR? I don't think so.
Good idea mate! And no, not many easy ones lol. Best of luck 🤠

Checking the oil filter for crank bearing shards is exactly why I always drain from the sump bung. I inspect the oil with a magnet to make double sure there is no bits in it. Oh and, 5w40 oil as the 5w30 is like water There's a German guy and his Wife who have done a whole sting of vids on the Disco 3/4. You should check out their channel. It's called LR Time. 👍👍👍
Hey, inspecting the oil with a magnet is a great idea. I did mention the oil type in the video and i'm a massive fan Christian and Vera from LR Time! I'm moving to 5w40 on my next change but this video was a bit more 'by the book'. Thanks for watching mate I appreciate it!
@campingbegins yeah sorry man, I made that comment before watching the whole vid, my bad. Great work though, keep it up👍👍👍
I am curious, is the bag you put it in the original one it came in or is it a bigger bag?
Hi, this is the original bag it came in. The mattress tends to expand while they are stored so do fill the bag over time. Also our's is ripped slightly at the opening. The bags aren't high quality. The mattress is great though 🤠 Thanks for watching and keep camping!
Would you know if it’s same location as L494 sdv6. Great vid.
Hi Terry, thanks for watching mate. I've just done a little research and my guess would be NO. It's not in the same location. I'm basing this on the chassis is different on the L494 RRS and checking the powertrain details on Wikipedia it's NOT the same engine SDV6 engine either. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Range_Rover_Sport#Second_generation_(L494;_2013%E2%80%932022) It may help your search to look for the L405 RR as they are the same layout and share engines. I found this on LandyZone too: www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/range-rover-sport-l494-fuel-filter.390981/#google_vignette Best of luck! 🤠
@@campingbegins thank you so much for the info , it’s been 6 years on the same filter ,must get round to it soon. Terry
Great Vid thankyou
Cheers mate and thanks for watching! Keep Camping 🤠
Seen my brothers Jetboil on a recent camping trip, was very impressed, but i also couldnt justifiy the high cost. I bought the campmaster and very it is brilliant, if you lose the cup the gas fits in to the boiler. Great video mate, cheers.
Oh mate the 'cup' is a gonner! You're 100% correct, the price of the JetBoil is crazy. Thanks for watching and keep camping 🤠
Thanks for the video mate. I wouldn't have been able to set it up with just the garbage procedures from the vendor.
Hahahahaha I just received some items today and couldn't even understand the 'destructions'! Glad the video helped and thanks for watching 🤠
Thanks a lot!. I've just bought me one, didn't even know I'd need a battery, I didn't know what to do with the cable, I don't know yet if I'm gonna be able to attach the clamps to my trailer, after watching the video, I'm getting back to work to c how I do. Once again, thanks!
Best of luck mate, I hope it all works out and you can enjoy your trailer easier! Thanks for watching and keep camping 🤠
Nice review, am planning to one of these for myself. I do have a rule for when changing blades/drill bits on any of my dewalt cordless tools to remove the battery. I guess this is not essential with most tool but drills and impact drivers you have to actively lock the power switch out.
Hi there! I think that's great advice thank you. I'll try to mention that in any future reviews. Thanks for watching 🤠
Hello mate, really useful video and looked like a real pain to film some of the work. Was just wondering why / if there is a need to change the sump plug if you can drain the oil with that pump? Is it so you can do a bit of a flush? Just seems a pain removing the bash plate. Don't want to cut corners but also want to avoid making the job more difficult for a novice like me.
G'day mate, Sorry for the late reply, i've been away on an extended holiday. I'm NOT far past being a novice myself, I've only had the D4 for 2 years and this is my 3rd service. I definitely don't think it's essential to change the plug and it will NOT impact on the engine. Bear in mind i'm NOT a qualified mechanic! I did it just to be thorough and because my kit came with one. I think as always these questions come down to experience and opinion so best to make your own mind up I suppose. Have a look at this thread where you can see there are many discussions about 'plugs', 'threads', 'washers' and 'seals'. But in short, IMHO - No. it's not necessary. Thanks for watching 🤠 www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/220314-new-sump-plug-do-we-really-need-one.html
I bought this a yr ago after my brother used this to jump start my car. I just notice that the multi port charger doesnt work and I think mine doesnt have usb c port
Could be a different model maybe, there are plenty of them on the market. Don't forget it needs to be turned on for the Multi port outlet to work. Best of luck and keep camping! 🤠
Thanks , just purchased one , Cheers .
Thats great mate! I'm still loving mine. Glad we could help with your choice. Thanks for watching. 🤠
Hey mate, where the sump plug is, you don’t need to do that bolt. The black cable to the right of it comes off by pressimg a button on it and drains out.
Oh really. I'll have a look next time i'm under there.!
Why do they put it in a stupid place 😢
Oh mate. I hate this job. I dread it every service! Thanks for watching
Theres not much weight, weight till your caravan fully loaded then do a video
Ahh I see. Thats a good idea. I'll do another when the renovation is complete :) Thansk for watching and Keep camping 🤠
hey mate great video , just got D4 myself , mine has a dip stick though and can't see anywhere to connect the oil pump to suck oil out , is it maybe cause mine is the base model ?
Hi, so sorry for the late reply, we're on holiday at the moment. If it has a Dip-stick, it's either a different engine (not 2.7, 3.0 TDV6 or SDV6) or it's a Disco 3. I'm not fully across all engines and variants in territories. Best of luck mate
Great video mate just got a d4 and this helps massively so thank you
Thats great mate! It's literally why I made these and i'm so pleased to have helped. Thanks for watching! (Sorry for the late reply, we're away on holiday)
Great video, just convinced me to give it a shot (instead of forking out $1000 for a mechanic), just curious, where did you buy the parts kit from, or did you buy them individually?
Hey mate! Sorry for the late reply. (we've been moving house). Are you in Oz? I got this kit at www.youtube.com/@klrautomotive3772 They're a good LR service house in NSW. This one is a NON OEM pack, but i found the parts really good and comparible to the OGs. klr.com.au/land-rover/discovery/discovery-4/spares-and-parts/filters-and-servicing/service-kit-discovery-4-3-0-tdv6/ Let me know if you need anything else 🤠
@campingbegins No need to apologise mate, I really appreciate the response 👍 I'm in Aus, so I'll check out the link. Thanks again mate.
Thank you...everyone presumes it s easy to assemble..which it is after watching your video...thanks again
Thats a great result ! I always try to make my videos useful. Best of luck and keep camping 🤠
I've got one and it is great! Not so easy to pack away though especially for a shorty like me. Dont forget that tarp for under the tent!
Hahaha ! It's definately NOT a 2 minute 'down' lol. Havr a look a our pack down vid: th-cam.com/video/5YXQaeFkG30/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZpwpLkhP5tyTrsSz Thanks for watching and keep camping 🤠
Can it free wheel? Like, can you disengage the motor and just push it like a regular jockey wheel? Thanks for vid!!!
Yes. Absolutely. There is a clutch. Have a look at the video where I engage / disengage the wheel clutch.
good job
Many thanks for watching!
That is not safe . If you blow a tire it will rip that plastic box and wood to shreds They are made of hard poly plastic for the reason ..
I'm not even sure where to start with how wrong / stupid you are... So you spelt 'Tyre' wrong firstly. The 'plastic box' is made from recycled ABS / HDPE plastic which is the same as most common car wheel arch liners (hence why I picked it). The 'wood' is Marine grade ply (from Boats) so if I hit a Whale it's fine! If you had a "hard poly plastic for the reason' It would probably crack due to movement and impact. Thanks for your comments and feedback. Keep camping and thanks for watching 🤠. (i just drove 1800 kms up the East coast of Australia with the caravan. No blow-outs or shreds!). 🎣
Hi guys I need advice, I bought DISCOVERY 3 about 6 months ago and it was just packed now I want to use it seems like the brakes have jammed. It start and try to move but looks like the wheel are locked. There's any easy way to make it make move without make any damage that will cost money. PLEASE ADVISE 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Hi, I'm definately NOT a mechanic so might be best to call your local garage. That said, if your D3 has an electronic handbrake (parking brake) it my have seized. I'd start there... Best of luck!
Thanks for the straight talking and easily understood instructions. Going to be doing mine soon with this video to hand 👍
That's lovely news mate! Exactly why I do these videos. Best of luck.
Thank you. I bought one so that I could manouver my van on my own. The manual gives no idea as to how to assemble it for a nonhandy person. I managed to figure out some of it. But you have clarified the rest thank you so much.
Hi Barbara, that's great to hear. I'm so pleased and that's why I make these videos. Good luck with the Caravan and enjoy yourself.
Something I always do is to write on the air filter the date and mileage it was replaced.
Mate, that's a brilliant idea! Keep them coming 😇. I've expanded my service log to a new notebook where I keep all receipts and part numbers I rip off the packaging stapled to the page with the date and mileage (KMs in Australia), like my own record. Old school but nice to have with the vehicle. Thanks again for watching!
Thanks for satisfying another fix for the voyeurs of the renovation. So good to see more progress on this beauty.
Cheers Russ! We really do appreciate the support. In real time (April 2024) we're at the point of heading off on our 1800 Km journey in 2 weeks and she's NEARLY ready to tow! Now has driving lights, legs, reflectors etc. It's a massive job getting an entire household ready to move interstate and adding the Hotrod into the mix has been a challenge to say the least. She's watertight and stable now and we're really looking forward to getting some footage of the trip! Thanks mate 🤠
@@campingbegins So cool. Look forward to seeing the footage. So is that WA or QLD you're heading to? Happy to see you if you stop on the way to QLD. Cheers.
@@campingbegins Oops - can't be WA - much further! LOL!
Looking really great guys.. Great preparation from the underside up. Now the fun stuff begins. xxx
Thanks Sandra! We really appreciate you watching. There more videos to come, just finding time to edit them at the moment. 🤠
Thanks team
You're very welcome friend! Thanks for watching and keep camping! 🏕🤠
Thank you for the wonderful video. I'd like to buy an oil funnel, please.
So nice of you to say. Many thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Just what I needed. Also i enjoyed seeing someone else struggle with it.
🤣No problem! We're glad to have helped. Thanks for watching and keep camping! 🤠
Thank you! You gave me the confidence to do my first job on - what I perceive to be - an incredibly complicated vehicle (D4 SDV6). A calm approach and clear video, including some important tips and experience passed on. Needless to say, a gorilla had over-tightened my water sensor and it had broken, hemorrhaging diesel. Job now done, diesel staying on the inside; thank you again!
@simonpearson8757 That's great news! I know what you mean, everyone thinks vehicles like this are super complicated and expensive. But they are quite modular. I just want to show anyone interested that cars like this can be maintained and have a long life while serviced from home on the driveway. Don't start me on Gorillas. they mostly work in the dealerships! I'm very please you got over the line without hemorrhaging too much money! Thanks very much for the feedback and support, I really appreciate it. Cheers mate 🤠
