    That lore dump with Vigil is just magnificent, isn't it? You _thought_ you knew what was going on, and then you meet Vigil and you get the _full_ Prothean backstory and your mind just explodes.
    And there is _still more to learn_ coming in the next games.
    Man, what a storytelling world.

    I still maintain that M4 pt.2 by Faunts is one of the best, if not THE best gaming end credits song ever.
    For context, Faunts were based in Edmonton and would play locally, not far from the Bioware studio. The devs would actually go see them play, so they put them in the soundtrack.

    I only played the trilogy for the first time three years ago, but it immediately became my favorite gaming experience of all time. I will never forget how I felt as I finished each game of the trilogy, and I enjoyed each game even more than the last. It was truly delightful to watch your journey through ME1, and I'm so glad you really seemed to enjoy it, too! Eagerly looking forward to the start of your ME2 journey!

    Hey Chris, I've spent the last 2 weeks binge watching this series. Mass Effect is my favorite game series of all time and I can't wait to see more from you. I really enjoyed how thoroughly you explored and especially the moments when you took the time to read the codex. I can tell you really care about the story and everything in this universe. Your thought process and deduction is really impressive as well, seeing you call out plot revelations from later in the game as far back as Noveria had my head absolutely spinning. Can't wait to see you start the second game.

    Tough choice regarding sovereign!
    Consequences for your actions are coming bro XD though, that ending is something else and you were caught completely off guard for the rate at which it escalated, great viewing and the scrambling fight all the to the Council room, really well done.
    When ME2 rolls around, be prepared for how much smoother it is.
    Heart wrenching when you cant find Shepard at the end there :( "They would kill Shepard off after that would they?!"

    I have been binge-watching your mass effect playthrough, I really enjoy how you immerse yourself into the world and story and give your thoughts and opinions, which even makes sense with your decision to concentrate on sovereign, because literally nothing else matters. If Sovereign succeed, the galaxy is doomed. It is the most logical choice. I know a lot of people supposedly choose to save the council, but realistically speaking that is a terrible decision. It's kinda ironic even, the council is constantly on your back about making the tough choices when you need to, this moment is definitely one of them. Saving the galaxy is far more important than saving the council. It just sucks a little how it is like a fake third option.
    Anyway, I had to sub, one of the best mass effect play through's I have seen :), and I have seen too many.

    When you (and I mean, not necessarily you directly, but as a player in general) realize that the Citadel is a reaper mass relay and that, to quote Vigil, "the keepers were the key", I bet you now wish that you had completed that seemingly tedious secondary quest where you were to scan all keepers on the Citadel...but never got around to that last one.
    Hmmm, I wonder what extra information would have been revealed.

You still have questions but you still have 2 more games to go so lots more to come and it wouldn't be right to reveal all in the first game. Glad you finally made it. PS the reapers dont wipe out all organic life, only the advanced races. Humans were spared the last time as they were in the stone age.

  • @Stforv

    You know, I think Bioware was unfair to the players giving them an illusion of a 3rd choice, because Concentrate on Sovereign = Let the Council die, not a single line of dialogue changes, not even a word in any codex entries, nothing at all in all three games changes. Everyone just blames you and whole humanity for destroying the Council all way through. As a player back in the days I expected that Concentrate on Sovereign could potentially still save the Council depending on your actions and choices in the game, and was absolutely disappointed to know it was not the case, so yeah.. Just thoughts out)
    Oh and by the way, don't know if you read the codex, but Destiny Ascention (the flagship) had something around 10k people on board. That's 2-3x times more than entire Arcturus fleet.

And more weighty decisions to make, all the way up to the final battle and the closing credits... THAT's how you end a game!

    Guess you'll just have to jump into the masterpiece ME2 to figure out the consequences if you did, or didn't, sacrifice the council! Have fun, you only get to experience it once. The only thing I will say is the consequences of your choices in ME2 can be VERY painful if you go in unprepared and rush through it. That and save the "Arrival" DLC as the very last thing you do before ME3, but you'll get the mission in the middle of the story. You'll understand when you get to it

    You finally got to end; took you a long time, but you're finally ready for Mass Effect 2.
    Both ME1 and ME2 have major and mnor choices that affect the sequels. Major choices of course have a much bigger impact and they are expecially major when moving between ME2 and ME3. Of couse the choices you made in this game also affect the sequels. The minor choices, while not necessarily earth-shattering in terms of consequences, still affect odds and ends such as characters, interactions, and missions.

  • @JezaGaia
    @JezaGaia 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Regarding the council well I won't spoil the effects of your decision over the course of the games but I'll share my own thought process when I have to make the choice with a paragon or paragon oriented Shepard.
    first there is the case of the Ascension, it's the biggest and most powerful ship we have in te known Galaxy, it seems important to try and preserve it, not just to fight Sovereign but also if we were one day to have to fight a war against the Reapers. And this to be fair is a valid argument even for renegade shepard IMO. Sure we will lose smaller ships in exchange but against living ships that are 2 km long or more I feel that one big ships are more useful than many small ones.
    second it's not just the council on bord the Ascension, they would have thousands of crew members and elite troops, they will also be very useful against the reapers, specially Asari commandos using biotics.
    And finally the most important, Aliens already see Humans as bullies, greedy power hungry species, saving the council is not saving 3 individuals who may or may not deserve it, is saving a symbol of unity, proving we humans are ready to be team players and sacrifice for the good of the community. To defeat the reapers we will need to be united, saving the other races representatives is the first step towards this, it's doing our part as Shepard said in the speech he gave to the crew when he first got command of the Normandy.
    Of course there is also a risk, making ourselves weaker in the long run by sacrificing part of our fleet to save the ascension, and even just immediate risk of loosing against Sovereign because of that. Saving a blind and ineffective council is another minus.
    So I'm not saying that my reasoning is the only valid one or event he best one but for me it was clear that the goodwill gesture towards the other races was worth the risk.

    y'know the Beacon on Eden Prime makes a lot more sense after you learn about From Ashes.

  • @TheRemyLeBeau
    @TheRemyLeBeau ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Regarding Liara: Does it feel similar to watching a sex-scene with your parents, watching this on camera? ;) You seemed seriously flustered and uncomfortable 😁
    *Statues*
    At 21:47 you call them statues, but those can be either preserved creatures or statues called the Inusannon, the species that inhabited this planet. They were the precursors of the Protheans.
    *Armature repair*
    At 33:13 you mentioned you're going to repair them all. In the original ME1 you're being assaulted by enemies (in your playthrough around 39:09 ), which means the Armatures are helping you fight off these enemies. I don't think the Legendary Edition still triggers that encounter though, or at least I haven't seen it.
    *Prothean beacon*
    If you had Liara with you, it would feel a bit more convincing, since Liara's the expert on Protheans. It doesn't have the same weight when Garrus tells you that the Cipher helped you understand the Prothean language, does it? ;)
    And yeah, the Protheans weren't a match for the Reapers because they've been wiped out in the end.
    *Mako*
    You're not the first to completely _forget_ about the Mako. There's actually been one other YT playthrough where they walked the entire distance on Virmire without the Mako, because they forgot they were able to drive that distance. So don't worry about it; you've remembered to go back and use the Mako, which should've reduced your playtime with at least half an hour ;)
    Still, note to self: don't ever step into a vehicle driven by Chris.
    *Vigil*
    Vigil is actually the first one to _confirm_ that Saren is indoctrinated. So far you've never had any confirmation, just suspicions about that.
    And yes, Vigil blows your mind, throwing curveballs at you left and right with all the information he conveys. The fun part about all of it is that the game has been giving you hints sprinkled throughout the game.
    1) Back when you first explored the Citadel, Avina in front of the Council Tower explains that the Mass Relay statue is there to show off the importance of the Mass Relays, but there are also conspiracy theories that it's an _actual_ Mass Relay, which turns out to be true since it's the Conduit. But the player is so overwhelmed with the entirety of the Citadel and all the new species to encounter that they never pay attention to that little tidbit of info.
    2) Did you ever notice that the map you can use when you're on the Citadel is actually resembling a Reaper?
    3) People on the Citadel always complaining about the Keepers doing whatever they want, yet nobody knows anything about them. One Salarian even asked you to scan them so he could get a better understanding what they are, even thought it's a criminal activity to disturb the Keepers.
    *Saving Council*
    There's not a good or bad way to go about it. Saving the Council and letting the Council die _both_ manage to defeat Sovereign. It just has impact on how the world looks like in ME2 and ME3, including all the consequences that come with it. "Live with your choices" is the motto of Mass Effect after all :)
    -----
    A little piece of advice before you start ME2:
    - Once you gain control of your character, consider marking your Codex as "read" so you don't have to sift through the entire Codex to see which ones were imported from ME1 and which are new for ME2.
    - If you want subtitles, make sure to turn them on _before_ you start the game.
    - If you like to do side-quests, do them before you move on to main missions. ME2 has a tendency to progress the plot automatically once you've done enough main missions. If you're not careful you'll end up in the Ilos-variant of ME2 before you know it.
    - ME2 has a much better grasp of how important side-quests from your squad mates are. Their side-quests now show up in the main mission section, which (important) don't count in terms of progressing the plot.
    ----
    Also (completely off-topic) did you _plan_ to finish up Resident Evil, The Walking Dead, Mass Effect 1 _and_ Spider-man in the last three weeks and all of them being your last 4 uploads? What's your plan now? Just focusing on Mass Effect to give yourself some breathing room and the new Spider-man or do you have new games that you're trying to pick up now?

  • @HeirofAether
    @HeirofAether 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    (Spoilers for Mass Effect 2) I really hate how they make you think the other species will be glad humanity takes on a leadership role, because in ME2 there are anti-human race riots happening on a constant basis, things get so bad security advises humans to never travel alone and always in groups, because everyone thinks that humans are a power-hungry, greedy race that seized power from letting the council die. Plus, a LOT of non-human characters get real judgy and pull a bad attitude with you for that decision. But nooooo, "they'll not only accept our leadership, they'll welcome it" 😒

  • @masterdark598
    @masterdark598 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Still find it funny that the romance with Liara before Ilos had news outlets calling for a boycott on the game. Too graphic they said.
    The council choice is deceptive as it's really just two choices with an illusion of a third. You'll see the consequences soon enough.
    Looking forward to the next chapter. The ride continues.

  • @JezaGaia
    @JezaGaia 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I absolutely love this game but I have to admit there are some holes in the story.
    1-The prothean scientists managed to finish the conduit and that allowed them to go to the citadel. There they altered the signal that triggers to keepers to activate the relay... OK but they know how the relay work, they managed to build one, they should be able to simply alter the citadel relay so it cannot work anymore. Much more efficient than just blocking the keepers from activating it.
    Also how did they do this ? decades of study to discover how the keepers work to be able to alter the signal ... only we know the conduit is a one way trip, they went to the citadel after they had found how to change the signal, that's what Vigil tells us, how could they study it from another planet without any access to the citadel or the keepers ? I would add that we know it's impossible to study the keepers because they self destruct if you try and there is no way to scan them but ok let's say the protheans being more advanced had some technology to scan the keepers from afar without them self destructing. It still requires to have access to the keepers and they didn't on Ilos.
    And finally they're on the citadel, did their job to alter the signal, and they don't leave a message for future generations letting them know about the reapers, the citadel, the keepers, the relay technology they unlocked the conduit and so on ? They left a message through the beacons that they know only protheans can use but don't leave one for future species ? And they knew the language of some of them, we know they uplifted the Hanar at the very least and probably they studied other civilizations too so they could have left messages in their language if they had one or pictures at the very least but nothing ? I mean Asari being long lived 50000 years is not that long in their history they would have already been evolved enough to have some sort of writing that could be used by the scientist. Or they could have left a VI like Vigil, that could translate the message.
    2-Why would Saren need the conduit at all ? I mean I get wanting to find it eventually to be sure there are no other surprises left by the protheans but the most important thing is to open the citadel relay to dark space. For this Sovereign only needs an agent that has access to the inner works of the citadel and can manually open the relay and Saren before he went obviously rogue could have done that. He had the full trust of the Council, was the most recognized Specter, above any suspicion and would have often been at the citadel . Nobody would have questioned him even if he went somewhere closed to the public. He could have opened the relay for Sovereign without any issue, once the citadel conquered they could have destroyed the part of the conduit in there effectively closing the back door and then had all the time in world to find the other side of it.
    Trying to find the conduit was a huge risk, many occasions to being detected as it happened with us. Nothing to gain either if you already know it's just a one way relay to the citadel.
    3-Also depending on when Saren got the cipher him and Sovereign knowing about the conduit at all is impossible in fact. But as we don't have much detail about this timeline let's say he had it some time ago to make it plausible that they learned about the conduit. But this could be another plot hole depending of some timeline points because the only way to learn this is through the beacon if you have the cipher to interpret it.
    When I play I make sure to "forget" about his to be able to fully enjoy the game but after I like to poke at the story and se how it holds and let's say it's a bit sketchy at times.

      Once they're in they've won the citadel, there is no contest.
      He had to use the conduit because he attacked Eden Prime and got caught. And he attacked Eden Prime to get to the conduit ... see how it's illogical ?
