I believe it has more to do with the fact that he hadn't agreed yet to become a Guardian and hadn't made the Oaths - therefore his magic wasn't bound to the children's belief - but to be fair, the Guardian's lore is sooooo lose in those aspects, so any and all theories are fun to explore.

I think the initial Jack Frost is the best example of moral greyness. He doesn't accept duty, he joins them for his own benefits, etc. And his growth makes him more of a guardian, because he begins to act like one. So your toughness on him at the beginning isn't all that fair, it makes a lot of sense for a 'normal person' to not throw themself into a life of serving others without hesitance.

    • @tamarasmith9060

Add to that his vastly smaller size compared to Santa & the way he's drawn to constantly follow the kids around & play was a clue that Jack was literally not fully grown when turned from a human to an elemental spirit. I think the other Guardians, especially Sandman & Santa, should've caught on in 300 years that Jack was a child himself & that's why he didn't act "responsible". He didn't really get a chance to mature, his brain patterns frozen (😂 frozen!) in the impulsive time in between child & adult. Instead of being critical of Jack & saying "he doesn't care about children" & blaming him because he got distracted by the bad guy, they should've spent more time to get to know his personality. If they had taken the time to really talk with him before then they would've understood he had no memory & Tooth Fairy could've helped him remember his past long time ago.

The Movie was loosely based on the Guardians Of Childhood kids book series by William Joyce- I think he helped with this movie as well. The books themselves are kinda dark if you look past the child friendly story telling, and this movie is essentially 300 years after the book events (with some plot differences). He published two picture books, one of which is called Man in Moon, that basically explains the lore behind it XD If you don't mind reading kid books, I can only recommend reading them, the lore and the world building is fantastic.

Quick note about the plot and the why it went in the order it did and why the kids lost faith so quickly: Pitch went after the tooth fairy first specifically to lure out Sandman, without Sandman's dreams kids lost the ability to believe in the wonderous, so while the Tooth Fairy was just fading originally, her, the Easter Bunny, and Santa lost power quickly after one big push (the ruined Easter).

    • @js66613
      @js66613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Pitch went to the North Pole first in order to distract the Guardians to get into the Tooth Palace before they were all there to weaken the Tooth Fairy by capturing her minions and collecting the memories possibly so that the mini fairies couldn't just restore the belief en mass in such fashion.
He then lured out Sandman having found that they decided to collect the teeth as a backup plan. That's why he acted all surprised pikachu and then fell into a fit of indignant rage before calming down and deciding he would go after Sandman.
      So I disagree.

This was all that was playing at the theater nearest us at the time. I was already a mixed up jumble of emotions, by Santa’s “wonder” speech, I was a wreck. In a good way?
This silly little film has a very special place in my heart if for no other reason than the circumstances surrounding my first viewing of it.
    It’s more than that though.
It’s more than that my daughter loves it. A daughter I didn’t think I’d see grow old enough to see it, let alone understand it.

This movie is based on a book series and Pitch’s backstory is that he was once a royal guard for the rulers of the moon (parents of the future Man in the Moon), and he was chosen to guard a prison full of nightmare creatures. The nightmares corrupted him, and he became their Nightmare King. He wages war on the Man in the Moon and the Guardians in order to consume the whole world in darkness. That’s why he loved the Dark Ages in Earth’s history. Also another detail from the books is that his daughter goes on to become Mother Nature, she’s a force to be reckoned with but she mainly wants to be left alone and keep out of the wars of her father and the Guardians

    • @js66613
      @js66613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Actually, he was first a general.
He had a wife, daughter and a good reputation.
One day he got tricked into thinking the opposition was attacking another town and in the meantime dream pirates ransacked his home.
To protect her daughter who was at the time out, Lady Pitchner used a doll and wrapped it up in cloth and ran to look like she was running away with the daughter, so when she died indirectly at their hands it tricked the people into thinking the daughter was also dead.
Kozmotis - his name back then - came back to find his wife dead and daughter missing and went on a rampage, killing and trapping ever Dream Pirate and Fearling he could find.
But now they needed someone to guard the surviving fearlings, so, and despite his fragile state of mind, Kozmotis volunteered - and for some reason, the Tsar was OKAY with that?! Like, seriously, the last person on Earth who should be dealing with manipulative creatures that can deadass immitate human behings, was let to guard a whole prison of creatures who could easily feed off of his mental state... especially with his daughter still missing.
He also had a locket with the picture of his daughter - who canonically is named Emily Jane, but because it sounds more fantastical and fits in with Kozmotis' fantastical name better, many fans call her Seraphina.
Anyway, the fearlings caught onto his longing for his daughter and started mimicking her voice, until they could perfect it, and started crying out in fear in her voice.
That broke Kozmotis' resolve and he rushed into the cell, trying to find his daughter realising only to late that it was a trap.
Now, literally dying of fear is possible and would have been so interesting, but nope, Joyce went for the possession trope and had him get possessed by fearlings and twisted into Pitch Black.
He then went on a scaring spree and wished to give the one child whom never had a nightmare a nightmare - that being the Tsar's son. With the royal family and obstacle and wanting to also take in said child as an heir of his own, he committed regicide. The pookah race - Bunny's race - got involved and being an obstacle he also wiped them out. Nightlight - Manny's small glowing knight - also tried stopping him and eventually their fight led to earth. There the moonclipper - where Manny was - turned into the moon.
At one point both Nightlight and Pitch were trapped and to free Nightlight, Manny also made the decision ultimately to free Pitch, who then apparently revelled in the dark place that was Earth before the Guardians turned up.
But those are the books and frankly they can be very questionable, even mildly offensive, not very nuanced and it might have been for the best that Pitch isn't the same threat that he was in the books. It gives him more of a possibility to be redeemed.

  • @samuelvincent557
    @samuelvincent557 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

To me, it actually makes sense why the children stop believing in the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy so easily. Children, tend to, have a very black and white view of things. So when they are told that the Tooth Fairy will give them money for their teeth, and it doesn't happen, it can break their belief. Same with the Easter Bunny. Especially, when they showed older children, ones who would be hitting that cusp where it is harder to believe in such things, so one little push like this could be enough to accept that it isn't some mythical being, but their parents doing it. Also, coupled with increased nightmares, and the loss of the teeth to remind them of their happier moments, it creates a situation where it can be, very hard, to believe in something good like that.

"He dissappear for one year, and that is all you kids need to stop believing in him? What about all the other years?"
See, this is where Pitch's strategy was brilliant. He went after Tooth first, taking the teeth from the tooth faries meant taking away the safety net and backbone, no more good memories for the kids to access about happy times, hope, dreams, wonder, fun- in times of darkness.
He then went after the powerhouse of the guardians, Sandy, taking away dreams from the children.
Then hope, for new beginnings and a time of joy through Bunny.
And without the teeth to make the kids remember the previously good times, about the things that matter, Pitch essentially places the children in a place of despair. Which leaves no wonder for North to protect.
And in that despair and darkness, it'll be easy to make them afraid of the future, of even going to sleep from the nightmares, and that the world is a dark place meant to be feared. (This could even effect the adults too.)
    Pitch really thought this out.
(He didn't account for Jack. Fun can spark joy, which is the bright light in any darkness.)

He was originally called Nightlight and was one of the strongest beings in the universe tasked with guarding Manny the Moon from Pitch. But he had to go so far as to banish Pitch with all he had and he became a human and forgot his past life as Nightlight and then died as a human and became Jack Frost and forgetting once again about his past. And your commentary and editing is top notch as always, not many reaction channels provide equal or sometimes even more entertainment than the movie! The only thing I don’t like is how the guardians easily assumed the worse in Jack. They’re the ones who basically ignored him for three centuries, until the Moon Man tells them to recruit him. I still like the guardians, and it’s a good character flaw for them, but it was glossed over. At least there’re good fanfics that tackles it.

Correct me if i am wrong but I think the children stopped believing in the guardians so fast only because pitch took their old memories when he took the tooths and he took care of sandman second because he was the only one who could spark the children's imagination and make them believe in fairytales through his dreams. Because if it's correct then pitch is a lot smarter and calculative than I thought previously

Jack was a bit selfish and naive (He only cared about his memories and not the kids of the world AND got tricked by the villain which destroys Easter. Not cool boy!) BUT he redeem himself by joining the guardians, stoping Pitch and saving the town. He also made Jamie believes in Bunny again which was so sweet X3 Jack made the others guardians happy by offering them a ride on slides; that was fun! His arc is well done in the movie.
Guillermo del toto aka the genius who gave us the Hellboy movies participate in this one. Thank's to him, we got a classic hollyday movie as good and entertaining as Nightmare before Christmas, Home Alone 1/2 and Polar Express. Nice :D

I saw the first like 30 seconds of this playing on a tv in a Best Buy and I was obsessed. Took me like a week to find out what the title was. It was the fist movie I wasn't disappointed with.
I only saw the "darkness. Its the first thing I remember. It was dark and it was cold and I was scared. Then I saw the moon. It seemed to chase the darkness away. And then I wasn't scared anymore.but why I was their and what I was meant to do, that I would never know." Part and then my parents pulled me away. I ,who have excellent memory, was able to remember all I had seen. I speculated from his appearance and the beautiful frost animation that he was Jack Frost. So I soon found the newly released movie about an animated Jack Frost when I got the chance to go on the internet.(I had to wait awhile for that). I was intrigued because I knew what it was to be alone and afraid so I felt a connection to Jack.

This move is Avengers for kids; a group of likable and cute heroes beating a villain with an army. I like it :D There's cool action, pretty animation even if the kids looks a bit creepy but not as much as the ones in Polar express, amazing music, friendship and adventure. I looooove the designs for Bunny's home and the Tooth fairy kingdom; so beautiful *O* Santa's workshop is magnificent too, loves the flying toys and the ice sculptures in his office.
This movie needs a serie. That would be fantastic to know who Man in moon is (Although keeping his appearance a mystery is great cause we can imagine how he would look like.) See Jamie and his sister as teenagers, maybe the boy could have a girlfriend and introduce her to Jack. The hero could be in couple with Tooth the fairy, they got a lot of chemistry AND shared a hug at the end of the movie plus her babies formes a HEART in the air; that doesn't represent friendship, it's definitely romance/ love.

Imagine being alone for 300 years with only the wind and the occasional other spirit you run into for company and then suddenly you get tossed into a sack against your will instead of an invite and told "hey we want to spend time with you because you were chosen to join our group by a really powerful spirit that basically ignored you since you were reborn as a spirit."

Why do the bad guys always have tons of henchmen and one big baddie? It's called the Inverse Ninja Law: The threat level of any number of ninjas (or any enemy) is inversely proportional to their numbers. Therefore, if you're attacked by a lone ninja, you're in trouble, but if you meet an army of ninjas, they can all be defeated by the heroes.

    • @frenchbreadstupidity7054

I am extremely overwhelmed. Work has been kicking my rump these last few years due to Covid (I’m nothing special just the reality) and these last two weeks especially have been tough. The toughest part is feeling like my company doesn’t support us in the field so we’re constantly finding ourselves having to figure out problems that are way above our pay grade, but you don’t want to leave your teammates hanging so you suck it up and work harder but the only ones who really profit off that is our company and our bosses 😩. Welcome to America, I guess.

A little info about Jack's staff. A common misconception is that it is the source of Jack's magic, but that's not true. It's a conduit for stronger magic. He is still a winter spirit without it, but it's his only belonging and a vital tool. He can still make it snow, make frost, and as you saw in the movie, bring frost creations to life and make "happy flakes". His breath is also magical.

But he can't fight or fly without it, which is why he couldn't escape the ravine. It helps him control the magic that is already within him. Which is why he was able to fix it in the first place. The first attempt was just him smashing two pieces of dead wood together. The second was him actually believing in himself, using the magic inside of him to mend it. Also, because Jack is a seasonal spirit, he doesn't exactly need believers to sustain himself as the Guardians do. But believers would definitely make him more powerful.

I'd imagine it's also a comfort item as well. He spent 300 years almost completely alone, with no one to believe in him or give him the time of day. The Guardians knew of him, Bunny had even met him, but none were really there. And to make it worse, he never knew why. He had no memories. He's a 14-15-year-old boy who drowned trying to save his sister and was forced to spend centuries alone, with only a staff to his name. And when he finally did get his memories back, it was too late. Everyone he knew was already gone.
His age is also why he might come off as selfish initially. His emotional and mental growth was stunted due to being stuck as a teenager for eternity. Which is why I personally hate any ship that involves him. Because they're all older than him. But his being selfish is also due to him only having himself for company for so long. He's had no one else to talk to. Of course, he's going to be eager to help them if it involves him finally learning his purpose. Gods know that the Guardians never helped him during his whole immortality. That's why they had to have a catch.

This movie is dark and angsty, but they really glossed over just how much.

I wanna say one this about Pitch he is the oldest character in the movie being older than the man in the moon. He also before Putxg was evil he was a hero in the galaxy. He got all the evil in the world and trapped them. Then one day his wife died and his Daughter went missing years later. Fearing in the prison used Pitch's Daughter voice to tell Pitch she was stuck in there. He opens it and the fearing surround him a possessed Pitch. Now he is what he is now.
I know this because I read the books.

22:30 I like that theory. I have another theory, from my understanding fear exists as a mere instinct to protect us from danger I think. SO, my Theory is that the boogeyman thinks that he’s a guardian himself in ways, a guardian of life. He hates the other guardians because he believes that all of there magic and wonder puts lives in danger. He believes that he needs to be believed in because, otherwise lives will be harmed.
Well now, that was a bit dark. Whoops. What do you guys think?

If you don't want darkness at the beginning of a Dreamworks movie, avoid Prince Of Egypt. That masterpiece has slaves being beaten and babies being murdered in its opening scene-
But Pitch IS an angry old man. XD
All of the guardians are very old. Jack most likely died when he was 16, but he's over 300 years old.
Jack is upset, because all of a sudden, he's told he's a Guardian Of Childhood when he'd been ignored for 300 years by virtually everyone. Having died as a teenager, of course he'd still think as a child would, and only want to have fun, but also acknowledgement of his existence.
If you're curious about the Man In The Moon, William Joyce, the artist and creator of The Guardians Of Childhood novels, also made a gorgeous picture book of the Man In The Moon's story.
Pitch is constantly giving the kid's nightmares night after night. True, there are worse things to fear, but sometimes dreams seem so real that you think they are, cause your brain feels the realism.
