  • This was a beautiful single handed sail from Largs Marina to Tarbert. There was some light wind across the Firth of Clyde. Through the Kyles of Bute was very still and tranquil. More good practice for solo sailing and Tarbert Marina was very quiet. Look forward to getting back to Tarbert for a good look around once the restrictions have relaxed. October 2020.

    Brilliant. I've got plenty of good memories of Tarbert loch Fyne. Spent lots of weekends there with friends and locals. Great channel.

    I was born in Greenock in 1967, but was raised in the States. My Mom told me stories of Largs, she would spend summers there housekeeping for two elderly ladies. I've been back a couple of times in the last few years, it is beautiful there especially Largs! I learned to sail in San Francisco, when I retire I would love to spend a summer sailing along the Clyde. Oh, that was some great single handed sailing by the way, very smart tying off at the dock!

    Man that makes me homesick. I'm Paisley born. My mum still lives not too far from Largs . I used to take mum and dad to Largs for lunch when ever I visited. I have a 34ft sloop on Saginaw Bay, Michigan. Doesn't compare to the West of Scotland. Thank you for posting this. I'm a subscriber now.

    Thank you so much. Loved that! We are newbies, bought our first boat (Beneteau 36cc) in October 2020 and have her in the water at Largs (way over at N35 for ease of take off/landing!). We managed to complete our Day Skippers on her, but haven't been able to sail her on our own yet! We sailed to Tarbert during our Competent Crew course, and will definitely go back. Really can't wait to get out on her, and your lovely video just made the yearning worse! Cheers. : )

      Thanks Jim, I just bought Sula in July last year and sailed her down to Largs from Shieldaig with my brother. The only really daunting part was berthing in and out of the marinas. We had a day with Leith Nautical once we got to Largs on berthing which was well worth it. See you in Largs after lockdown..!

    Very nice videos. I’m very interested, because I owne a Hanse 505 that is trapped in Norway. I am from USA and sailed the boat from Newport RI to Cowes in 2018, then cruised Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Aland Islands, Finland, Estonia, back to Sweden and Denmark then up the west coast to Oslo, intending to return this past May. However Norway will not allow Americans to enter at all, so I left the boat on the hard in Norway. Now I plan to hire an English company to deliver her to Inverness next May 1, and we Americans are allowed into UK (may need to quarantine, but that’s OK). Then through the Caledonian Canal and spend the whole summer cruising the West of Scotland, including the Clyde. So very interested in your clear videos. Very good to identify where you are going and what islands you are passing. Lots of videos don’t do that and they are not very useful. Keep them coming!!! Maybe we’ll run into you next summer!!! Peaceful video. I went the same route as part of competent crew training a few years
    ago and enjoyed it. I'm finally hoping to buy my first boat in April after I complete my
    Day Skipper practical. Great sailing.

    Great video. We bought our boat (Colourful Dream) March last year. Sailed same route in September from Holy Loch with an overnight in the inner harbour Rothesay. Then on to Tarbert. Great place with great seafood. Hopefully see you out there 👍⛵️

    Great video. The UK, and Scandanavians have always been the worlds best sailors, and I love the Hanse range. I especially like the new emotion, but unsure about rudder pressure. They should have an electric range saildrive, either electric yacht or ocean volt or thunderstruck motors would work great. I look forward to more. Thanks again. I am dreaming of a circumnavigation retirement for the end of my life.

    Can I ask you, how cold were you on this trip? I sail the Great Lakes in the U.S. and October is very cold sailing for us. And much of the lakes freeze over in winter. How late in the year can you sail? Thank you for sharing this trip.

    • @SailingSula
      @SailingSula  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Mike, it is mild enough in October. I was out in December this year and it was also ok. It has been very cold the last few weeks but we are in lockdown so haven't been able to get out and see what its like. all the best.

    Thx for sharing. We sail on the Solent, UK. I have lots of questions but will save some for new episodes. For the time being, I hope you don’t mind me asking about buoyage up there. We’re the channels marked that you ‘followed’ or just some locations?

    • @SailingSula

    Really awesome. Why did you choose to lasso midship and not stern? Or did it not matter becoz of the calm?

    • @petem6354
      @petem6354 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, curious. Certainly, lassoing from mid-ships to an adjacent pontoon bollard is the best way to secure initial control when single-handed, then lash onto the on-board mid-cleat. As for dangling a bowline loop over the edge and hoping to pick up a bollard on the pontoon . . . fraught with risk! Why not a two-handed lasso from the deck?
