I agree that mirror force and torrential don't get the major plusses all that often, but they do have the fact that they are non-targetting removal going for them
I feel the Ryko take. I've been playing Schmidt's Quickdraw list and the fear of setting Ryko against another set monster is very real Also I'm glad you called out Upstart lol - It may have been correct past 2013 Yugioh, but LPs being such a resource in old school Yugioh makes the game so much different. I was talking to my friend about it and he said that giving your opp 1k LP can sometimes be an Upstart for the opp too because you can't kill them due to the extra LPs
I nearly made a video on this and a lot of the same cards were on my list. Avarice, Upstart and Oppression were all there. I also completely agree with your ryko take. Don’t decide to play hamster because you already play ryko. Play ryko because you want to be able to play hamster.
honestly surprised ladd wasn't on here. granted, most modern edison decks don't have that card anywhere near their decklist but even at regionals these weekend with edison side events i saw players playing ladd in their main deck... sure it seems good in a limited board state but i think anyone would rather have herk and chariot 10/10 times over just a ladd
Gorz is fine. He’s better in some decks than others (Monarchs, Diva Hero, LS, Fairies, QuickDraw), but I don’t have any issues with the card, nor do I think it’s underrated or overrated.
@@imnerdpodcast Fair. I feel like his value drops so much against good players. Granted Warning isn’t in the format but I feel like my love for Gorz has dropped a ton after returning to these formats.
Modern edison is a bunch of people trying to make modern yugioh out of edison cards. So mirror force bad in modern, mirror force bad in edison. I will say that I think modern edison decks are higher power ceiling and lower power floor. They are more likely to OTK going turn two and also more likely to brick and do nothing. I feel like we are slowly removing the game from edison
Mirror force actually is bad vs most decks, generally everything is playing ryko Hamster caius, all 3 of those shit on mirror force, ryko pops mirror force, hamster gets ryko to pop mirror force, caius banishes mirror force
My deck doesnt play ryko/hamster/caius but i do play debri dragon so i can make black rose to nuke the field so my opponents mirror force becomes useless trash and/or i can make stardust dragon with my debri to negate mirror force, thus making my opponents mirror force useless trash
Against heros, stratos can pop backrow and if u try to mirror force alius they can chain gemini spark for a plus, if u try to mirror force absolute zero, u raigeki yourself, terrible
Against frogs mirror force doesnt do shit to stop substitoad from dumping half of their deck to the grave, and it doesnt do shit to the monarchs that they summon(caius or raiza shit on battle traps hard)
Lightsworns pop your backrow with ryko/lyla/celestia/judgment dragon before they enter the battle phase so mirror force(and dimensional prison for that matter) is 200% useless trash vs lightsworns. Almost as bad as playing mirror force/dprison in 2012(inzektors)
Mirror force and TT are slowly but surely becoming trash. Sure they’re mass removal, but you’re never getting more than like 1-2 cards tops. They get negated easily and all they really do is punish bad players for overextending. It’s getting to the point where I’m ready to not play them anymore at all.
I’ve noticed that often these cards get the most value by resetting tempo, not by generating pluses in card advantage. Someone tries to caius your monster? Torrential leaves an open board and now YOU’RE the aggressor.
@@SnackMuay still doesn’t feel good to go 2-2, sometimes they may even plus depending on the situation. Like frogs for example won’t gaf about that play.
@@ma.2099 Well those are 99 percent of the frog variants these days, any other builds are just troll. And even then, Caius and Raiza arent the only problematic tributes. Jinzo, Dark Dust, Vanity's Fiend, they're much more problematic than a 1 time monarch eff.
@@ma.2099 also if all you want to do is get the monarch out the way, there’s plenty of other options. Bottomless, TT, Karma Cut/Raigeki Break, etc. the problem with all of these is that none of them are particularly good solutions (hence what makes monarchs good).

Those mirror force, torrential and others will quickly become book of moon and compulse. Always chainable, high value, utility cards

yeah it matters a lot, especially when things like knocking someone out of brain control range is a huge deal in this format.
@@imnerdpodcast Literally this. I think this is part of why Legacy of Yata is getting so much better by the day.
Flamvell Doggy kills the hammy straight up. Rekindles after making that lvl 8 too ;)
Flamvell Doggy nice, so is Rekindling. I think the deck has potential for sure.

Yeah hamster is absurd. I'm not surprised at all that Jeff won 13 years ago playing that card in an underdeveloped format.

Not a fair comparison but I get the idea.
Thoughts on Gorz?

I love playing gorz in decks with lvl 1 tuners, so dragon turbo(white stone of legends)
I think Pulling the Rug is kinda overrated. When you hit Diva or Caius it's great, but realistically it's dead much of the time.
It was actually honorable mention. I agree that it’s pretty wishy washy.

I feel twister is a must for glads and lightsworn, you have to have an out to flootgates.
Operation is back breaking vs glads
