Dave thanks for the lesson on neck relief! That was one of my requests. Your like me your are not afraid to share trade secrets! Thanks again! I'm just learning.
Nice stew sticker mod. First time I saw that bridge knock done. Good to know. I assume one could use old strings. Nice guitar...despite the lazy neck angle
I probably need a new ABR1 wire bridge or the saddles replaced. Took my guitar to a highly recommended shop in my area. They have lots of fans on the my les paul forum. The tech cut these pretty deep V notches in my bridge. Don't know why he thought it was necessary. I originally had concerns about the nut being too low. My concern is if you cut a slot in the saddle and need more adjustment you may not be able to flip the saddle if the slot is slightly off center. Flipping it could create an issue moving the string away from where you want it.
That's my guitar. It's a 2006. And, it is gorgeous. I love the fact that it has only two controls. I always found the 2-volume, 2-tone thing too much to have to remember!
I have an old Guild S-60D which has a Tune-O-Matic bridge with adjustable position roller saddles and I have never seen anything that tells me how those are supposed to be set. I just SWAG it when I change strings.
I purchased a Gotoh GE103T-B, which I believe has a 12" radius. I believe the Les Paul knockoff guitar I put this bridge on has a 10" neck radius. I've been having some trouble intonating a few of the individual strings at the 12th fret (#9 D'addario EXL120's). The intonation is about 2 bars sharp at the 12th fret on the tuner on some of the strings. It seems like the low E is the worst, with the saddle adjusted all the way bottoming out, then the D and the G, which do have some additional room for saddle adjustment. The A, B, and high E strings seem to be consistently intonating without much of a problem, and those strings have some adjustment left as well. I theorize that this problem with intonation is possibly caused by the difference between the bridge radius being 12", and the fret board having a 10" radius. Do you know if this is possibly the cause of my issues with intonation, and do you know if I can remedy this condition by filing down the grooves on the saddles, and increasing the depth of the grooves on some strings slightly so the span of strings at the bridge forms a 10" radius? I am not sure whether this 12" versus 10" radius is a possible reason for my intonation being off, or whether the difference between a 12" and 10" radius wouldn't be enough of a variance to cause an issue with intonation.
Those expencive materials only are expensive in the begining.after they are bought and not waisted or abused. There well worth the extra money.and 3m makes the best sand paper I've done used I'm 30 years..made in Canada👍
Dave my man. The little vice you used there. It's cool. I need one for just that. I've seen similar but which one might that be? Check back if you would please, and thanks pal. God Bless.
I got mine from flEaBAY. www.ebay.ca/itm/9PCS-Guitar-Bass-Radius-Gauge-Understring-Luthier-Tool-Setup-Stainless-Steel/122560845747?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648 Note, they're a little bin thinner gauge stamped metal than the ones those other guys sell, but they do the trick nicely. Oh and these ones cost 1/4 the price.
12:21 Yeah: no way would I have that setup on any of my gihtarrrs. I'd just top-wrap the strings and screw it right the heck back down. Problem solved.
Top Wrap that stop bar Dave w/ Extra BALLS.. Lower the threaded posts.. Those strings are shit.. What ever happened to .010"-.046" DG Strings HaHa!! BTW Schaller made the OE bridge on my 94LP, They used to use good hardware, I'm sure the current stuff is made in China with no makers marks on purpose..
Someone doesn't know what a guitar needs for proper sustain, tone, and intonation- a sharp knife edge for the string to ride over, or the opposite of a roller bridge. If you want to kill your sound, put a roller bridge on. Roller bridges are for guitars with otherwise incurable tuning issues with a bigsby or lyre style trem. But I really don't think there are any incurable tuning issues with those trems.
Rollers are the way to go. Some would say it kills your sustain but it's just in there head, theirs not really a difference in sound between the roller bridges and the horrible knife edged bridges.
The box had an AllParts sticker on it. It's currently going for $72 USD (unless I picked the wrong one). www.allparts.com/GB-0540-010-Schaller-Nashville-Chrome-Tunematic-Bridge_p_1567.html
I don't know who the guy is who brought that Gibson in to get fixed up but I would be really pissed off if I'd paid Gibson USA prices for a guitar in that kind of condition which needed to be set with the hardware in ludicrous positions just to make it playable. No wonder why Gibson is getting pasted all over the internet for its lack of quality control.
I'm the owner. Actually, I bought it thru Reverb from a guy in South Hadley, MA. As they say...Buyer beware! You should have seen the case! Non-original, and all beat up. On a positive note, the seller gave me $100USD credit for the case after I complained. An honorable guy in the end. BE CAREFUL WITH REVERB PURCHASES!

Woody H RIGHT ON SMOKE IT IF YOU GOT IT.
Dave thanks for the lesson on neck relief! That was one of my requests. Your like me your are not afraid to share trade secrets! Thanks again! I'm just learning.
Thanks, Dave, for explaining all the measurements. I know it is probably tiring to you, but it really helps me. Love your videos, man!
Always great close-up camera work Dave. Thank you.
Abrasive thread. Not seen that used before must look for some of that. I’m liking your non nonsense approach to your work. Lots of useful info
What a beautiful guitar!
It looks like it might be a good candidate for a top wrap, around the stop tailpiece.
nice informative vid. like that hand held bench vice. and never knew about abrasive thread. cool Dave
Nothing quite so satisfying as a well setup axe, and it's even better when you do it yourself.
Dave, you are truly a special guitar tech dude! Thanks for the cool tips on Gibby bridges.
Now that was interesting Dave! Learned a thing or two today.... Thanks again Dave....!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Roller bridges are the shit ! O'Keeffes is too ,but bag balm works pretty well on roached out hands .
Cool trick Dave nice fret level and setup ,Cheers
I learn all kinds of new things from these vids, Dave.
Thank you man! I kinda thought so. Hey if it works! Very kind of you sir. Best,Fran
'Klingspor' is a very good quality sandpaper, as well. Half the price of 3M. Old school rules, new tech drools! Cheers from Mike in Fernwood, BC
I've learned so much fromDave's channel this past year not the least of which is the importance of sandwich time 😁 Happy Holidays Dave!!!
As always, good stuff, you neighbor to the north! Thumbs up.
This was a killer learning vid for me, Tanks
Love LP DC's and that one is gorgeous!
My #2 is a well worn P90 model and what a tone machine! Wouldn't mind adding a DC Jr. into the mix some day.
Thank you. That's my guitar, and you're right...it IS gorgous!
Nice stew sticker mod. First time I saw that bridge knock done. Good to know. I assume one could use old strings. Nice guitar...despite the lazy neck angle
I purchased a set of those under string gages from Philadelphia Luthier Tools and Supply.

I used to own that same guitar.. rootbeer les paul double cut pro.
Great knowledge nuggets in this one!
The abrasion thread reminded me that I need to floss more.
ty...to the point...like a boss...ty again
I love those old LP Double Cut,a very rare guitar.Nice work on the bridge Dave, you are a true craftsman.
Anyone know what model year that is?
That's my guitar. It's a 2006. And, it is gorgeous. I love the fact that it has only two controls. I always found the 2-volume, 2-tone thing too much to have to remember!
Ernie Ballsack would love knowing you called his strings "scrub strings" :D
I have an old Guild S-60D which has a Tune-O-Matic bridge with adjustable position roller saddles and I have never seen anything that tells me how those are supposed to be set. I just SWAG it when I change strings.
Would a top wrap, like you just did on the other two recent LP's, be a solution to get that tail piece down to the body to take off some stress?
Was that Goddo in the background????? and everyone go buy a sticker, the war Amps are a great charity

Another great vid Dave. Pity the neck was set so badly and the stopbar has to sit so high
As always - A great video
Beef stew Mac and cheese
If you haven't already, try some Corn Huskers Lotion on your hands. It may help with your cracks on your fingers.
Why not use the old strings to mark the spacing on the new bridge?
Love your videos DAVE HAPPY NEW YEAR get some LEGAL CANNABIS and celebrate FREE THE WEED WORLDWIDE.
I wonder why no binding on the fretboard? Hmm...
I don't always play a Les Paul, but when I do I used GHL Boomers lol
Dave my man. The little vice you used there. It's cool. I need one for just that. I've seen similar but which one might that be? Check back if you would please, and thanks pal. God Bless.
Fran check out your local high schools, trade schools etc, those vises have been a common machine shop training project for over fifty years at least.
Might be a stupid question, but why do you always use different tapes on the fret board?
Not many stores do "pre-inspections" because it creates revenue for their guitar tech department. Sign of the times - unfortunately.
Exactly the way I've spaced, and slotted saddles for 30 years. No one has ever bitched about it, ever.
Dave, what determines the stop bridge height? Is it purely string angle? Is there a spec for string angle? thanks, Mark Lansing
Dave's World of Fun Stuff
Thanks for your help. Is there a certain break angle you look for? Obviously they don't go straight in
M
Dave, when you say 12 thousand feeler gauge are you talking about the .02 inch gauge?
Thanks Dave! Love your videos.
Who was the tunes at 2.50 Dave? Anyone?
I wonder why the neck is not bound n those. Huh.
That guitar looks and sounds nice but was a real Monday morning job...
Any idea where you can get those pickup height gauges from? Can't seem to find them anywhere.
Thanks Dave. The search continues. Love the vids by the way. Thanks for taking the time to do them, I've learned so much from you.
These look like the ones they sell at Stewmac. Dave's favorite guitar supply and tool retailer.
Steve Grant I have the same set.
Thanks, Dave, never seen this done before. Glad I can keep learning by watching your videos.
and another Guitar go's out to give others the joy of music , I don't know why that makes me happy but it dose ?
12:21 Yeah: no way would I have that setup on any of my gihtarrrs. I'd just top-wrap the strings and screw it right the heck back down. Problem solved.
If Gibson did it right in the first place, those would not need to be adjustable. But hey.. Less work and more profit is the new standard i suppose.
Wrap around that tail and it won’t have to be that high.
The stopbar probably wouldn't sit as high with a stock Gibson bridge.
I've had loads of Gibbos ,they really are not made that well.
Just like you I'm blind af. I should have listened to my mother.
I'd have put a roller bridge on it. It stays in tune so much better than the old bridge.
Lol "tuned up to twitch." I love Dave-isms. What's the difference between that and "tuned up to bitch?"
Son of a pitch, why didn't you just put a roller bridge on that beast?
Top Wrap that stop bar Dave w/ Extra BALLS.. Lower the threaded posts.. Those strings are shit.. What ever happened to .010"-.046" DG Strings HaHa!! BTW Schaller made the OE bridge on my 94LP, They used to use good hardware, I'm sure the current stuff is made in China with no makers marks on purpose..
Should I worry that my new bridge came pre-slotted? It sounds and plays okay to my uneducated ears.
Btw my Yamahahaha acoustic plays like a treat now, thanks to your vids on the subject. Cheers Dave.
No buckle rash from this fellow...
Just put a roller bridge on the fuck'in thing!? 🎵🎸
And a Bigsby trem. From what I have seen a roller bridge is the cure for Bigsby tuning issues.
No. Please don't.
seems unnecessary for a tune-o-matic without a vibrato bar.

If anyone is interested: I watched frame by frame and the price is $89.95
So about 50-60 USD
The box had an AllParts sticker on it. It's currently going for $72 USD (unless I picked the wrong one).

Ok but well, I am a hot dog so 8 to 10 is ok for me? Right?
Just drop that tailpiece and top wrap those strings.
I think it's pronounced Shàh-luhr (like in Shalamar), it's German.
Notice the 2 l's, it's a short snappy pronounciation ;-) the a is like in Mahler, not ei sounding more Ah, l's like holler... FWIW

Your fingers hurt because you Plek'd too much when you were younger.
“10.5” ...Seriously? Fractions? That ain’t rock & roll 😂
Thank you man! I kinda thought so. Hey if it works! Very kind of you sir. Best,Fran
