  • This video shows the process of updating to the newest and greatest version of SPIKE (for Prime and Essential robotics kits). Unlike previous versions you do not need a computer to plug into. It can all be done directly from your tablet to the hub.
If you are not sure whether or not to update, you really should watch my video that compares Spike 3 to Spike Legacy. • LEGO SPIKE 3 and Legac...
Not everyone will want to update!!!! When I made this video there were a couple of important things to consider before updating.

What iPad would you recommend to support Lego Spike Prime? We need to purchase a new tablet. Thank you!

I use iPad 5 and 6. Often get cheap second hand ones on eBay or Facebook Market place

Have you figured out how to manage program slots on the hub after the update? I cannot delete a program, only write over a program. The ability to manage the 20 memory slots seems to be missing.

Looks like the Manage Programs tab has been removed. I tried resetting hub, and the programs remained. I am guessing they will include it in a later update.

I also have the same problem, after the update the hub does not connect via Bluetooth and flags an error when connected to PC. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks

Someone posted this on another one of my videos. Try this: Charge the SPIKE Prime HUB till the light next to the USB port shows green
Make sure the Hub has a green center button. (This is the wrong status).
      Disconect the USB cable.
Make sure the Hub is turned off.
Hold the center button for at least 10 seconds. Note: there is no indicator showing that 10 seconds have gone by.
Release the center button. The center button will now blink in green.
Hold the center button again and observe the center button cycling in color between green -> yellow -> red -> green ...
Release the center button when the button is red.
The Hub should now start with the heart image.
Connect to the SPIKE 3 App and update the firmware again.

Nope. I haven't experienced that. See a suggested solution from Lego in comment below, from user in another one of my videos:

What Android tablet would you recommend to support Lego Spike Prime? Does a cheaper Android tablet or Chromebook offer a decent experience for children, or does the iPad have some advantages? Want to understand your opinion before I select what to buy. Thank you

TBH I have not used anything but apple products with Spike Prime. I have used my iMac, Macbook Pro, MacBook Air and several iPad5's and 6's and they have been reliable. I used to be a PC man, but when I got my first iPhone, that all changed! I have always bought second-hand or refurbished iPad 6's. Often just one at a time from eBay or Marketplace. They are a much cheaper than new and are fully compatible with Spike Prime. I'd be interested to hear what non-apple users have had success with, because I get this question quite often.
