    I'm from Cambrai! We grow up learning about both world wars and the battle of Cambrai and how much destruction and death happened on these fields. My great-great grandpa left home in 1914 saying he'd be back for christmas. He died a month later at the battle of the Marne at 28. I think tanks is what tipped the balance in the end.

      whilst I agree with everything you say, our life of freedom is being taken away slow but sure, by the likes of the police ( public servants ) making up lies to get people in courts in front of police puppets that being magistrates to make themselves look good, governments taking away your rights slow but sure, it is rapidly becoming a police state, those great and honourable people that laid down there lives must be turning in there graves these days and asking themselves, " Why did we bother " .... R.I.P. GENTLEMEN and accept our thanks

      Yes I am aware of the slow, authoritarian creep into our society and it worries me a great deal. The one thing with this virus outbreak is it showed how easily people panic and submit themselves to the mercies of those in power. My grandfather was an original commando that formed the SAS in WW2 and it sickens me to see the country descending into something he would hate and it's sad to see Europe headed the same way with the EU. I have had so many Europeans look down on me for being a Brexiteer and they've acted with senses of self superiority that saddens me as they are hating us for not wanting to be a part of their vision of the perfect European. That just reminds me of the attitudes of the very people that started that war because they had a vision of the perfect citizen in their eyes and I bet a lot of the average ones never started out intending it to go that far. It was probably innocent feeling resentment of those not fitting that mould for their vision. It's sad as they formed the EU to prevent going back down that road yet it feels like they've lost sight of that as the EU wants more and more sovereign powers. Anyways, getting off on a tangent there but if anything it shows i'm certainly passionate about the subject. I just hope others wake up in sufficient numbers before it's too late.

      The tank designers and such wanted this for the Somme in 16 but the brass said no, use what you got and thats what lead to the large failure.
      Cambrai changed the entire trajectory of warfare even when the Germans gained most of their ground back.

If only we never had countries who want to dictate to other countries how they are run , I also would like to thank the brave men and woman who voted to leave the EU , they never voted to leave for any trade deals they voted to stop the dictators of the EU , god bless you Guy for showing this video

    The clip starts with the memorial, so I was expecting somewhere in the episode, the cause and number of all casualties would be brought up. The rest of it makes it sound like a walk over for the Commonwealth, yet there was the Commonwealth memorial of over 7,000. Casualties were over 40,000 on each side. Crazy what was acceptable back then.

    Barely imaginable today, we get reminiscent reminders in WWI video games but in reality...hard to fathom! WWI battlefields where soldiers fell injured, dead and dying, the odds yelled and yelled loud they'd probably get blown to smithereens as they lay there, turned to pink mist by artillery. As I sit here behind my keyboard in pampered decadence with coffee, some chocolate, a ciggie and I turn the fire up a wee bit, getting a tad chilly don't you know! 7048 died in just that one battle alone! Hell, there were many more battles to follow that one, with the same results in death, suffering and misery. Over 100 years ago men died on those bloody, cold, wet, unloving, unforgiving, godless sods and for what?💥💀💨😪

    • @Greylin91
      @Greylin91 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For nothing. We should have let Germany defeat France and save the 1m British casualties. The Prussians had defeated the French before in 1871 and crowned their first Kaiser of the German Reich at the Palace of Versailles. We didn't intervene and disaster didn't follow.

    • @Sorarse
      @Sorarse 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were more than 7048 that died in that one battle. The 7048 were just the soldiers whose bodies couldn't be found, which is why their names are on the memorial; they have no known grave.
