I have been a cocktail bartender for years and have hit a dead-end. I am about your age, maybe a year younger if this video is three years old. I have always wanted to be a pilot and these videos have really helped me find motivation to start taking steps to get there! Thank you for helping me to be excited about a dream I'd given up!
Hows it going rn? im currently in flight school
@@benjadoo How is it going with you?
@@luigy358 it’s okay. I took 6 month break from flying for a couple reasons but I’m finally going to start again next week. I’m also getting my license soon and a car so I’m very excited.
There is an amazing scholarship coming next year where I live which will pay for my junior year and if they don’t run out of funds my senior year. I could be graduating with >40k debt as a low income student. For my degree that’s amazing so I’m just excited to see what the future holds
@@benjadoo Oh, man! Thats great, i 'm happy for you. Just out of curiosity, what is the degree you gonna do?
@@benjadoo I Hope you go back fly soon. God bless the future we gonna have 😃
Hey Garret,
I just wanted to let you know that I’m currently enrolled in UND and beginning my flight training in two weeks! Your videos keep me motivated to keep going and make me very excited for what true future may hold. Keep up the great content!
Sincerely,
Matthew T.
good luck on your training, hope you have a successful career bro.
Jag Hussein Thanks man!
Brilliant and handsome captain! I admire you.
I’m starting at UND in a month, any advice you would give? Also any studying tools you use to prepare yourself for the written test?
You should make a follow up video talking about what the PIC ground school and checkride was like at your airline. Loving the content by the way!
dude I am so excited to keep building hours! I'm 23 and getting these flight hours in is tough but sticking with it definitely has been the best decision i've made! can't WAIT to be in the Majors after the regionals!
Thanx Garrett
Quick question, are you planning on getting a bachelors (unless you already have one)? I'm thinking of going to ATP to start my training.
@@bob8819 yeah I'm a full time student getting my BS in Corporate/Commercial Aviation *2.5 years program. Flight training affiliate is Aviation Adventures out of Manassas regional in VA.
I'm 22yo and I just finished my college degree, but I so fascinated by becoming a pilot that even tho I'm already not that young I will follow this dream. Thank you for your inspiration. Cheers from Portugal
Are you a pilot now?
Topic for next video: why do pilots hate Embry-Riddle so much? I have read some of the most vicious rants about riddle, like how it is way to expensive, has useless classes you don't need/forget in time etc... What has your experience been like at riddle? Great video btw dude
From the videos and blogs I’ve read about that school, it’s just too expensive. Here in Daytona they recommend planning a budget for 20,000 a year for 3 years. That’s 60,000 bucks. And that’s just for the flight training. If you’re getting a degree the costs only go higher and yes you do take extra classes cause you’re gonna have to hit the amount of credits towards the degree somehow. Some people love it but if you don’t have the money I recommend a local flight school
I’ve been wanting to be a pilot since I was 4 here I am 13 years later and I haven’t changed my mind
U go man
pro tip : you can watch movies on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Grey Salvador yea, I've been using flixzone} for since november myself :)
@Grey Salvador yea, been watching on Flixzone} for years myself :D

flywithgarret is the best! He's inspired me to create my own youtube channel on my aviation journey even! I'm gonna be going over helpful tricks to student pilots, reading meters, TAFS, Low enroute charts, VFR charts, a lot of information, as well as bringing you on the journey of a student pilot life with me!
awesome!
Also love and appreciate all your hard work and dedication, flight hours, and training that you've gone through to get to where you are today! And loved your video. It wasn't that dark (could see you clearly) and loved your articulation. Keep up the good work!
Congrats on becoming a captain at such a young age!👍👍👍 you deserve it🤘🤘🤘
Even me I was trying to know how he became an Airline Captain at 26? Anyways he became Captain with his dedication, smart and hard work.Keep it up and go on with zeal and enthusiastic and hope for new uploads which will be guide and tips for the future aspiring pilots.

Thanks for a great video I am so proud of your progress to become a Captain at 26 you have worked damn hard to get there way to go!
Wowwww!!! 26!!!!! OMG!! Blown away.. (maybe not such a big deal, but still..) I have no other words to describe it. I just came across your channel. New subscriber here.. 🙋♀️ I'm going to watch all your videos and look forward to the next one! 😉
Well garret you're so cool 26y.o and almost have everything. You Rock! 😎🙌🙌Woow! good job! You doing so well dear 👍👍👍👍
You seem more mature at 26, congratulations for being a captain.
It’s nice seeing you smiling when you’re talking but you do look sad when you don’t smile at all...You do look good as always anyway hehe!
Good for you Garrett. That's great that your so motivated and ambitious to make the most of your career. I wanted to be an airline pilot at one time but as fate would have it, I ended up in Medicine. I wish you great success as a pilot. :).
First of all, thank you for your informative videos @flywithgarrett! I’m finally enrolling in flight school in early 2020 in San Diego after a long wait. Thank you for your idea of purchasing an aircraft to build hours. I’ll shop around for a Cessna 150 for that as well as getting my CFI and CFII. Also, good job on your fitness as well. I also go to the gym regularly and TRY to eat as healthy as possible lol so that’s always cool to see what you’re up to with your diet. and nice BMW!
Awesome, I loved your story and drive. I have to add, you must have been a great instructor too coz I have learned a lot and gained insight into the aviation world from just this video, and for some reason remember all the jargons.
Gosh, wish me luck for my solo and Ppl exam. I know I'm still far for my dream but I'll get there just like you. You're my inspiration ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this video...it was really helpful 😀
So interesting! As Flight attendant I'll start my PPL training! Thx for your videos
Any update Jen?
That’s where I am heading in August. Embry Riddle in Daytona :)
My recommendation to aspiring pilots. For most you you, it will behoove you to go to a part 61 school to obtain your private pilot license. Part 61 school have their disadvantages such as scheduling (every one want to be a pilot) and you must pay as you go. Not many lending institutions will lend funds for part 61.
Once you obtain a private pilot certificate, move on to a part 141 school. Part 141 contains schedule and curriculum therefore lending institutions will have a more accurate forecast when you will be able to repay the loan. Unfortunately there is a caveat to these schools. Every phase of training towards your ratings will be at a fast pace, and if you have the foundation with multi tasking and piloting it may not be too overwhelming.
The instrument check ride and the CFI and CFII check rides will be the most challenging check rides of your aviation career.
I hope this info helps.
I’m going to be 24 in August and I feel old getting into this industry lol. I’ve been wandering around degrees and couldn’t decide until about 2 months ago. This is what I want to do passionately for my career
Don't let societal pressure dictate what is seen as too young or too old. Life is a marathon not a race. If you want to change your life and follow your passion, that is something that should be done at anytime of your life. I am 25 and after trying a handful of different fields, I finally found aviation. I've been in flight school for 4 months. My CFI is a physicians assistant who always wanted to fly but his mother didn't want him to because of the fear of an accident. He is now 40 and making the switch from PA to pilot now, grinding his hours as a CFI. It's never too late.
Did you end uop pursuing ?? I am currently 24 and thinking of getting into this industry!
Do the airlines give priority to people that have a pilot degree from University, or would certifications from ATP be just as valuable when getting a job in the airlines?
ZackSmithTv I’ve been wondering this too! I’m starting in early 2020 so I called ATP and asked. I was told that airlines don’t care as long as you have the hours!
ZackSmithTv I’m 26 and ive just recently started working as an FO. I went to university for a degree as a back up. It was also a great experience and being able to mature and make friends. At the same time i went to university in 2013, jobs in aviation was not easy to come by. So honestly at this particular moment just do your training get the hrs and get the job. I believe in the UK they have this thing where you do your training and a degree at the same time (Middlesex University) which can be another option.
ZackSmithTv larger carriers it’s preferred but no longer required. It does give you an edge over people without a degree if your resumes were to match.
Larger airlines might focus more on your education especially when you have already worked at another airline. Smaller airlines do not care about your education and only care about hours.
To put it short: if you're in the US, a degree is very important (which is dumb imho). If you're from anywhere else, it is not necessary to have one. Although having one serves as a solid backup in case the economy goes bad or (more likely) if you lose your medical.
Love your videos!!! So happy I found your channel!
SAUDADE DE quando você estava nesse início de jornada.❤
Well I'm 45 years old and starting soon it's never too late
I’m an owner operator with a small truck fleet. I’m building it up for a few more years then I’m going to ATP! I’m currently 22 and have 4 trucks on the road
Goodluck in all of your endeavors. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!
Awesome man! Talk about the good the bad and the ugly during your Capt.Upgrade if you can.
Insightful... If I could turn back time! 😎
Same here.

I am sure you make more effort than you said. Hard worker deserves better. :)
I love this man!
You’re one of my heroes.

Soooo I looked through the comments and sub comments...some of y'all are bitter for no reason. Damn!!! This is a good video, no one can tell you which flight school to go to or how to pay for it. Literally no one can tell y'all that...because both are subjective and will vary from person to person. If you are interested in a flight career do your research, call schools, find out about their payment options, just examine the options.
Wow, became an Airline Captain at 26 ? That's impressive👍

God, I wish my dad was an airline pilot. I am about to turn 48. 515 hrs total, instrument rated, and working on my commercial and multi. I, too, bought a C150J a few months ago for a time building. I expect to have my commercial, multi, and 1200 hrs by Christmas of 2024. I am actively researching and trying to figure out how to proceed at that point. Some days, I get told by the internet that I am too old and wasting my time. Other days, I am told to keep going for it, and I will make it. I would appreciate any insight from the more experienced crew. Thanks
you got this man!!! you are still young!!
@@maeyo8048 Thank you. Just hit 800 hrs and commercial.
i always watching your vlog.....godbless you always and take good care of your self
Well let's be honest, I'm sure your look also helped. It's a plus.
Yeah, I'm not gay but I gotta admit this man looks really hot.
@@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor no man needs to be gay to be able to identify when a man is handsome, interesting, sexy or so. That availability/skill is exactly the one that fires jealousy that launches all the alarms when such dude approaches your girl warning of possible risks:-) Beauty is in both sex it is just prohibited for men to express a word about it and run into the risk of being considered gay. Women don’t suffer that, they always express about the look of another one freely. Despite we are not allowed we can always detect the good attributes in a man but our reaction instead of admiration usually is evasion, jealousy or envy revealed by a deep silence and that look we do. So thank you for your modern free open mind comment, as should always be. Fearless without prejudice.

The best pilot ever

Congrats !!! Keep up the hard work !

A really important question you left out was how did you pay for all of that? It's awesome you got a 4 year degree at Embry, did flight training AND bought a plane. But did your parents pay for you? Did you get loans/scholarships? That is the fast track to getting to where you are but I don't think most people could find financing for all of that.
Very nice Sir...
So I’m 16 and I’m planning on becoming a pilot and I was wondering how long it will take for me to get there with college and ATP and I was wondering if it possible to skip regionals and go strait to major airlines? Thanks for the amazing video
You can’t skip the regional airlines. First you have to be 23 years old for the majors and also need a college degree (don’t have to be related in aviation).
Elite-_-Flights you don’t need a college degree
Why are some regional airlines I could work for when I finish flight school and get my bachelors degree?
What are some regional airlines I could work for when I finish flight school and get my bachelors degree?
Emiliano Vela Try any! I like republic. If you can choose one that utilizes the E-170 or E-175, bigger regional jet and less workload because of longer flights. Something to think about. Republic is affiliated with American, United, Delta so after that you pretty much have a guaranteed move up to one of those may not airlines
My Brother asked me why anyone could be picked as a Pilot or First Officer @ a young age.My answer was-im much more confident in an individual who has been flying @ an early age-is cognizant of his/her surroundings-has a fit mind/body-can make crucial life/death situations-flying-is all about safety-so there you have it.Plus i like to explore the four corners of the World. That wont happen-behind my Laptop-Just Sayin !

Dude... I was chief pilot at what is now pinnacle " I think" Flagship call sign. Anyway, I was 25 when I took the job. This isn't the only era young pilots getting hired.
Hey Garrett? Did you attend a four year college? I heard that helps getting big paying airline jobs and I was wondering if (in your opinion) that is something that has hindered you or not?

I want to become a pilot, and right now im looking into what flight school to go to. Any tips on how to pick a good school would be appreciated. Keep up the great work!
Working on private in ERAU rn. You should come back to ERAU n give a inspirational speech😃😃cuz you just inspired me with your videos. Thank you
How long do you think the pilot shortage will be here? I’m currently working on my instrument and worried any opportunities may be gone in 3-4 years
You're more than safe
As he said, shortage is expected to be at its peak between 2021 and 2025, but that is for North America mostly. East Asia, India and Africa are growing fast and will need to hire massively for years to come, and they love american pilots for their expertise.
Loved it
Take care always.god bless you.
Good job sir...see you one day
Wow nice to inspiration to pursue my ambition as flight attendant
I’m getting ready to take my CFI check ride, and have been wanting to maybe buy a 150 like you did. How difficult was it to manage with expenses, inspections, etc..?
Hey how are you paying off your loan? I’m about to start my training with the part 141 school and it’s a 15 year loan with about 5-10% interest of $70000. I’m worried of how I would be paying off this loan even if I do make it into the regional airlines. I feel like I would just scrape by for years.
What’s your input? Thanks
Which airline do u work for?
Hey Garrett do you mind making a vid about what it's like to be a first officer + what the first officer pay is like especially in the first year?
What advice would you give to those of us who aspire to be pilots and dream of flying, but just don't have access to the financial means to do so?
I would really like to know too
@@riod43 Hey thanks for clearing that up man. I really appreciate it.
Hey Garrett what are your thoughts about flying part 135 instead of CFI-ing, I am having thoughts on flying for Tradewind Aviation mostly for the island experience, and maybe I can CFI until I reach bare minimums then fly 135 ? Thoughts or any feedbacks, because just entering this business I feel as its not about rushing the time to get to the airlines one way or the other if your determined you will make it!
Awesome content!
Wow 💜 very inspiring
Love your outro.
good job.. really inspiring me..take care
new subscriber from philippines😍😘
Hey Garrett, you and I meet not too long ago at the Riddle Career Fair. I am located in CLT, we spoke about a new start with your regional that I flew with. Anyway, I am CFII MEI building flight time just over 500hrs. I need more, I’m flying nearly everyday at any hour but I really need more multi and instrument time. I would like to get involved with longer flights because of the dense time per day. Any thoughts?
Much love ❤
Awesome video man! I just stared my commercial rating so it’s time for me to start narrowing down my options. I’ve been looking into some cadet programs and I’m really interested in your airline program. You mentioned you did some recruiting for it so you must be the guy to speak to about this. If possible I would like to get in contact with you through email to get some of these questions out! Thanks for the info again!
Still waiting on the video on how they schedule your flights 🙈😜 great vid tho, again 😄
As a pilot in training I wonder to how much the pilot shortage might get overshadowed by a global recession...?
I’m thinking that a reduction in demand for flights caused by the likes of Brexit and a global slowdown might reduce the pilot shortage over the next 5-10 years, but then lead to an even greater shortage thereafter once our economies bounce back.
Any thoughts?
Brexit didn't affect flying at all. EasyJet transferred a lot of planes to EasyJet Europe (Austrian AOC) due to Brexit, so it can continue flying within EU. If you are talking about the economical states of UK citizen, it is not much worse. Also many people from the UK are choosing cheaper option i.e. Jet2.com which has really "exploded" recently and is financially doing very well.
NICE VIDEO
Hi, my name is Sibin and currently attend Vaughn College of Aeronautics and technology, And currently I am working on my private, I was wondering if it was worth it to go to aviation school so you could get the restricted ATP or it doesn’t really make a difference down the road end it need 1500 hours instead
This guy is super handsome🤩
What are your honest thoughts on embry riddle?
Bort Bort it’s a good school
I took flying lessons and got my solo but stopped because I couldn’t afford it. I wish you were my flight instructor.
