    Do a video about how to get to each individual major ie: a video on the best way to American, the best way to delta, etc. obviously you can’t do them all but just the major ones. Love your videos!!!

      Find which regionals flow to the major

    • @hayhay0198
      @hayhay0198 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Adam Brackston Just because somewhere has a flow doesn’t mean that it’s the best way to a particular major. If someone can go to a regional carrier that doesn’t have a flow but is respectable in the eyes of the major they want maybe they can get to captain and ultimately reach the minimums for majors faster than sitting on reserve or waiting for their seniority number to come up to flow through.

    • @echojacobs
      @echojacobs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually it is. You wanna go to AA, you better be military OR work for one of their WOs. You ain’t getting in another way...unless your resume is out of this world. They selected 49 people off the street last year. That’s it. The odds are harsh if you’re not one of those 2 pathways.

    • @hayhay0198
      @hayhay0198 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@echojacobs That may be the case for AA but maybe not for everywhere. That’s why I brought up the suggestion for the best track for each major. What you mentioned here is valuable information and would be great for a video.

    i wouldn't mind if the next 5 years or so when the majors start feeling the pilot shortage, they just hire us without going to a regional. OMGGGG i would loveeeee thiss. This is a dream situation for me haha

    • @gvudrt8266
      @gvudrt8266 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      nah theyll probably still take all the captains at the regionals. new hires at regionals are being rushed to captains, and then the current captains will transfer over to the majors, I doubt the majors would pick a 1500 hour flight instructor over someone with 3500 hours, 2000 dual engine, and like 1250 PIC

    I’m from the Washington DC area, so I love that you brought up the idea of overlapping regional and mainline carrier bases. I’m currently only considering airlines which will allow me to stay close to home and ultimately spend more time with my family. With that being said, United(IAD) and American(DCA) are looking like my two most realistic options mainline-wise. I’m currently in my sophomore year of flight school at Kent State U. Great video!

    • @JonnyJets
      @JonnyJets 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      nightstalker I don’t mind having to commute to either Newark or Charlotte since they’re both within close proximity. I’ve spoken to a decent amount of regional carriers and it seems like there’s a fair amount of them offering junior bases in Washington, CLT, and EWR. Hopefully that doesn’t change, of course.

  • @forgottenplayas12

    Was thinking of going to envoy because of the flying benefits and because they get you into American. A video saying what the difference between envoy, PSA and any other regional that guarantee a job with american would be helpful so I can pick one when my hours are there. Thank you.

    Back in ‘98 when I hired on at “American Eagle” they did not require you to pay $10K. Yes, believe it or not there used to be more pilots than there were jobs and many regionals required you to pay THEM! I refused so that’s why I went to Eagle. I think Skywest was not pay-for-training either. Boy how times have changed. 👍🏻

    Good things to keep in mind Garrett, but what I want to know is why YOU chose YOUR airline and what your long term goal/vision for your airline career is. Employee satisfaction ratings are important too, are employees happy working for the airline that they do? Profit sharing, union contracts, ceo changes, company vision, airline performance, corporate culture, and customer satisfaction ratings are important to keep in mind as well. Good to have an idea of how you wanted to be treated as an employee and what kind of people you wanna work for since this is an industry where you do settle down and are in it with these people and their management for the long haul. Flying, money, and bases aside.

I have a family vacation coming at the end of the year and one of my flights is on a regional carrier. With your workload is it possible for someone like me to ask the pilots a quick question or two? I know it's situational based and a wrench can be thrown in at any time. But on average do you usually have a minute or 2 to answer questions from the flight deck?

    Converting my airline transport pilot license from Canada to FAA. Coming with about 2500 hours and 1200 turbine. Would love to hear your thoughts on which regional would offer me the most flight time and quickest upgrade to get me in position to be hired by majors!

      OrtymD Aha Hey there! I’m still in the process of converting them, but I can give you a rundown of how I did it. Might be slightly different for a CPL/Multi IFR than for an ATPL, but the process is close. 1 you need to get your license verified from Canada by completing a form and sending it to the FAA. During the process you will need to pick a FSDO (basically a regional TC office) with who you want to complete your transfer. 2, you’ll get an email saying it’s been certified and that is valid for 6 months I think. Then you need to schedule your conversion exams. I believe you would have to do 2 (cpl and IFR) and you can schedule them at any testing centre. Once all of that is done successfully, you can schedule a visit with the FSDO and go through all the required paperwork and submit for tha FAA license! Oh also at some point in there you’ll need a FAA medical Class 1 if you want to fly for the airlines. Here’s a link to the AC from the FAA detailing every part!
      Hope this helps! www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_61-135A.pdf

    The one thing I did find amusing I stayed in a hotel in the UK capital and out of the window I could see the planes lining up to come into Heathrow airport I could see them clearly and I know they could see me because the started waving. Can I ask if you are waiting to approach the Airport and your circling near a hotel would you be tempted to wave? Just curious

    I have an in for a 135 that’s willing to pick me up when I finish my CPL flying a hawker and have me fly 91 until I get the 500hrs to switch over to the 135 side. Would you recommend going that route instead of flight instructing then jumping to the airlines when I get closer to 2 thousand hours? Just trying to watch out how far in debt I go and how much I’ll make vs student loans. This is a second career and I’m not living at home like many of the kids in my class.

      Regionals typically do not care where you get your 1000/1250 for R-ATP or 1500 for ATP from... CFI/II is preferred but not required.
      Majors will want to see it though, in addition you'll need a 4 year degree to get hired at most major airlines.

      CowIsNoHow thanks! I’ll have my 4yr in aviation around the same time I’ll hit those hours and am ready to transition to a regional.
