    This is the first of your paintings that I've attempted and I'm so happy with my results! I'm a beginner......this is the fourth painting I've done in my life. Seriously. Thank you for producing short, straight to the point instructional videos. I appreciate that you do it with a limited palette which is easy on my budget and teaches me how to mix paint. My favorite painting channel!!

    Love these short videos. I am learning a lot. One thing that I think would be helpful is a second camera or just a mirror beside your easel to show your palette. This would give viewers a better idea of when and how much water you are adding.

    Just wanted to let you know that I love this painting and tutorial. I have watched it at least 10 times over the last several months!!
    You really do show how to create depth and up close in this short painting time. I have watched your other videos and for some reason I keep coming back to this one. It looks easy but shows so much. Would like to see you paint more like this one. Maybe some with houses/barns, fences, pond etc. Keep up the great tutorials.
    Happy Painting! 🖌🎨💙💛💚

    Thank you so much. I've been working with pastels, mostly pastel pencils because I love doing portraits, but I really am a newbie when it comes to art so want to try a new medium. I find your instruction to be extremely helpful, love the real time so that we can follow along with what you're doing. I am TERRIBLE at landscapes but want to learn more so will be trying this out myself instead of just watching LOL. I really would love to try acrylics with portraits - but that's a long way away to try that. Thanks again...so glad I found your channel.

    Love all your acrylic paintings, Ryan! I realize for obvious reasons, in order to stay within the 10 minute limit you put on yourself, you use an 8 x 10" canvas. Realistically, to recreate this painting, what size canvas would you use to get the best effects? Thanks so much for posting all your great tutorials. They've helped me tremendously and I'm sure many other people, as well.

    • @RyanORourkeArtist

    You are a fantastic teacher. I just started painting and done few really good jobs, appreciated very well by my family and friends. One quick question- you use a lot of this "old square headed brush"- now where can I find it or make a brush like that. It sure is very practical!!

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I would just take an extra square headed/flat headed brush and peel back the bristles. Or, with pressure push the head of the brush into a hard surface. Any process which disrupts the bristles should help :)

      "Primary Blue" is 'generally' a neutral blue. It isn't cold or warm. Pigments like cobalt/ultramarine/indanthrone are warm which means that they have varying amounts of purple. Cool blue pigments like cyan are cold and thus have elements of green. With that said, cobalt is fairly close to primary blue. For more information this is a good read www.janeblundellart.com/warm-blues.html

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm using an old wobbly easel, it's not something I would recommend. However, if you're also using canvas boards (or panels) what I would recommend is taping the back of the canvas to your easel. This should keep it in place. P.s. Frogtape works best as it doesn't rip the back of the canvas boards.

      I use crayola pencil crayons to sketch my rough drafts because they don't dilute lighter paint pigments like graphite/charcoal. Then I use a fine tipped sharpie marker on the areas in the foreground that I want to see through thin layers of paint. I hope that helps!

    What size canvas are you working with in this video?

  • @MythKitty7
    @MythKitty7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've watched one video after another since discovering you! Watching
    your videos gave me the courage to actually put some paint on the canvas
    for the first time. So far, I like what I'm seeing. I'm painting a
    light-being (some may call this an angel) with a background of stars.
    I'd love to see your interpretation of such a being.
    Currently, I'm using the Liquitex Basic paints, but I'm thinking of purchasing the heavy body paints for added pigmentation and lightfastness. I'd also
    love to figure out which medium I could mix those paints with in order to slow the drying time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Have you any experience with Joe's Prime Really Good Lightfast Acrylics? They are a really inexpensive, medium-grade paint but I'm hesitant to try them.
    Also, when you're working on a larger piece, do you mix your paints fresh each time or do you store them? I'm wondering if a wet palette is a necessity. So far, I've been able to mix colors during later painting sessions which match the original, but it can be a little time consuming.

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying the creation of this first piece, it sounds quite interesting. Unfortunately I don't think I can help much here. I've never really had an affinity for additional mediums. When I want to extend the dry time I simply use water (or paint with oils.) In regards to mixing I always re-create my colors before each session. As you mentioned it can be time consuming but it also makes you a better painter. Again, I know this wasn't really what you were looking for but I do wish you the best of luck!

    • @MythKitty7
      @MythKitty7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for responding. I'm just going to play around and learn from this experience. I ordered two different mediums to play with as well as various types of acrylics (heavy and soft body, paint markers, inks). If I ruin one canvas, it's okay! Acrylic skins have really piqued my interest, as has collage. Honestly, I think I want to try everything! LOL
      I also plan on taking my laptop into my paint room (albeit a brave or stupid thing to do around paint and water!) to follow along with one of your videos. I love both the cherry blossom and moonlit stream paintings. Just beautiful! Thank you for sharing your talent as both an artist and instructor!
