- For the past two years, we have been working and traveling out of our self converted 2013 Ford Transit Connect micro camper van. After quitting our career jobs and finding remote work, we set out on a mission to visit all 50 states. 60,000 miles later, we completed our goal!

While we would love to buy another van, especially to travel in another country, right now the plan is to do some more traditional backpacking travel! But, we have been looking into renting vans in other countries like Scotland, Australia, Japan, etc. We haven't made any solid plans yet but would love to return to van life in some capacity when we are abroad 🤞

You guys convinced me to get a Transit Connect. I am going to pick it up this weekend. Now I have to go binge watch all your build videos again and figure out what I'm gonna do with it. :D We had leaned away from the Transit connect in the beginning of the search 'cause I'm 5'10'' and my boyfriend is 6' we thought it wouldn't work. But I think we can def make it work.

I have truly enjoyed following you guys all over this beautiful country. Excited to follow you on your future adventures. You gave me great advice as I planned my Route 66 trip. Now, if you don’t mind, I would like to ask you for more advice. In June of 2024 I will be traveling the Alaska Hwy. I would like to boondock most nights. Any advice as to where I can find good places to boondock or inexpensive places to camp on the Alcan and throughout Alaska is much appreciated. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys and best of luck in the future. By the way, I have the same steering wheel cover on RedRover.

Our best advice for the Alaska Highway is to purchase the Milepost book. It has every campsite along the Alaska Highway listed so if you are wanting to stay in established campgrounds, you can plan in advance for which ones you are going to stop at. It also lets you know gas stations, food stops and points of interest. It is a bit overwhelming to look at at first because it literally gives you everything on the Alaska Highway (milepost by milepost) but we would not recommend traveling the Alaska Highway without it, it is an incredibly valuable resource.
As far as boondocking, there are a lot of pull offs along the Alaska Highway. You will see Tractor Trailers at most of them, that is where we stayed most nights. There are some boondocking spots listed on the app iOverlander but pretty much every turn out/rest stop along the Alaska Highway had Tractor Trailers or other travelers pulled over to sleep for the night. For example, in front of the Sign Post Forest there was a rest stop that we stayed at and right across the street there were two campgrounds that were charging over $50 per night to stay at. (The milepost book also lists where there are pull off/rest stops as well) Hope that helps!

Great video!!! I’ve been watching since the start as my dad has leant me his transit connect to camp in the past 6 months! My dog and I love it- I just put my cot, some containers, her dog beds and a cooler in the passenger seat and off we go! Mostly locally here in California. Congrats on all 50 states and getting Apa sold to begin the next adventures in your life! I’ll be watching! 🙂

Do yall know how much yall approximately spent on gas? On the entire trip, including the alaskan highway?
Honestly, we do not know how much we spent specifically on gas...
We should have done a better job on keeping record of our budget as we tend to get a lot of questions regarding how much we spent. This is something we do plan on doing better in our future travels. Altogether we spent about $30,000 throughout our entire van life journey/visiting all 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska on everything including gas. Hope that helps!
