Star Trek #8 by James Blish. Short story anthology series of the TOS episodes. My parents gave me the whole set of the fool things one Christmas when I was a kid. Had to buy the (much better written) TAS series by Alan Dean Foster on my own. Watching him try to make sense out of some of the stupider episodes (and nothing tops TAS for stupid - they make the science in this vid look plausible) was worth every penny. :) If you want a novel, try Spock Must Die! also by Blish. Features not one but two Spock brains. Messes with Trek canon more than Splinter of the Mind's Eye messed with Star Wars. Neither fan base likes to talk about them these days. They're like that branch of the family that produced three generations of cannibals before their neighbors burned them alive, and we've all been there, right? :)

Basically, the episode is set on a planet that acts like a waxworks/amusement park that contains historical characters. These "waxdroids" develop independent thought and are stuck in a battle between the Hero droids and the villian droids. The heroes are whittled down to a handful of characters with little to no fighting experience (e.g Pythagoras, Mother Teresa, Noel Coward etc.) and their latest casualty happens to be Winnie the Pooh. You don't actually see anything, but the sound of the gunshots and the reaction from the characters kind of says it all. I'd suggest either watching the episode or a retrospective (Cyborcat and Diamanda Hagan have pretty good ones), cos my description probably doesn't do it justice.
As a historian, I only feel a little representation here. Yes, I do want to create a machine that makes robot duplicates of historical figures using punch cards that somehow destroys entire planets when it malfunctions, but those are just fun side projects. Historians focus on documents and trying to see what we can learn from them, what would making robot duplicates do for historical research?

Oh my gosh, I laughed so hard at the "This is the Bad Place." I did not expect to see a The Good Place reference here and I love it.
I like that they included items from a "past" that was actually the future from when the story was written. Star Trek so rarely does that.
And this issue is a great demonstration of both why they don't do it, and why they should have done it more often.

Yes, I do want to create a machine that makes robot duplicates of historical figures using punch cards that somehow destroys entire planets when it malfunctions, but those are just fun side projects. Historians focus on documents and trying to see what we can learn from them, what would making robot duplicates do for historical research?
