Loved hearing your thoughts on all these topics! I am so impressed with your catalogue of test knitting experience -- and I totally agree that large group chats for test knits can be so overwhelming lol. The last test knit I was a part of had just about 30 members in the chat and I had to mute the notifications because it was popping off all day 😆
I'm really glad you didn't delete your Instagram! I know it can be discouraging when a post doesn't do well, or when you reach out to others and things either don't take off or fizzle out. Eventually though, you'll find your people and your people will find you, if that makes sense lol!
I think seasonal knitting in general is a fairly good idea, and I also agree that you should also knit what you want to knit, when you want to knit it! Even though I do have a number of summer garments planned for this summer, I still have a couple of sweaters I want to cast on as well -- and by knitting them in the summer, they'll be ready for the fall!
Knitting home decor can definitely be a challenge in terms of figuring out exactly what to make. I think the only home decor things I've made are throw blankets because they're something that I use all the time. Also dish cloths -- my mom actually still has a number of dish cloths that I crocheted forever ago lol. They're definitely a useful item in the kitchen! And pot holders would be great too!

Test knitting has been so much fun! I love helping the designer with their patterns and I also like having a “guaranteed” garment at the end haha 🤣
Im so used to knitting sweaters and cardigans that I just want to knit them all of the time! It’s so warm here though that I am in desperate need of all of the summer knits!
I hope I can knit a blanket! I’ve tried to so many times but have always failed because they took too long haha

    Another fun episode!
It's amazing to think where you started and the growth you've made not just from the beginning but test knit involvement, the makes and variety of skill set used to accomplish the design intended. And, you're doing a podcast sharing the journey with us all.
I'm so glad to be apart of the creative community as well, it's very encouraging and supportive for the most part, of course there will always be critics, but I don't care bout aspect of focus on it either. But truely inspiring... Sometimes I can't help but step back and be in awe of what we're able to do and how it's done with such simple items... String, sticks and/or a hook. 😮
Absolutely 💯 with chats, sometimes they can be overwhelming esp in larger groups so I don't believe you're alone in your experience or sentiments. My hand is raised too.
I completely understand scrappy projects and still wanting consistency it's a battle - lol, the struggle is real!!! But I will say I've made some beautiful blankets just a couple of them that were made of scraps for the centers of some fancy granny like squares and a fresh yarn to border and join and I have to say, they turned out beautiful and a fave for GMA and I treasure mine. I was amazed that even the scrappy look still offered a consistency a more aestheticically pleasing look as if it was planned and intended. Kinda like a flower garden, you can have your flowers and still different depths or hues, tints, etc will be seen -the hydrangea is a great example of that. but I totally get it! I've even made my scraps into sensory blankets for children and seniors that offer different colors for different textures and patterns. I rather have it planned but sometimes the scraps work out incredibly & surprisingly well.
Home decor offers so many options and a great way to personalize and accent your space. I've done some and wanna make more! That'd definitely be a fun make along option and share our collective FOs - I have this already planned with my work group and will be starting it in Sept.
Blankets have always been a go to for me especially as a crocheter (where I started) but I've been making more blankets this year which I'm a bit surprised by, cuz it wasn't my intention nor planned to, but it's been fun and learning some more skills even making them knit -center out square and circular designs.
I've been going through kitchen decor patterns for a bit now, haven't acted on them but, handmits, pot holders/hot pads and hand towels and such, I wanna make some for sure! I actually started a facial cloth this week, and for Christmas last year I made family members dish cloths and included a soap foamer and their choice of scented soap from Dr. Bronner's. Of course I didn't have any left over for myself 😆 lol
Wishing you a great week ahead and thanks for sharing your time with us, always look forward to seeing your posts and videos.

Loved this so much! Needed something to watch while I'm working on the sleeve of my olso sweater :) I agree with the group chats, they're fun for a little bit and then I quickly get a bit overwhelmed 😅 When I was test knitting the Freya Sweater, we had a slack channel for it so everything was organized, like there was a thread for just random chatting and one specifically for questions or issues with the pattern so it was way less chaotic. And easy to scroll back up through questions to see if someone had already asked the question I was going to ask 😂Definitely think more designers should do that!
And I've had a pretty similar experience to you in that when I joined the knitting community it was hard to connect with people. More people than ever were watching my videos compared to what I was posting in the past, but I wasn't seeing the same engagement others were getting and it was for sure discouraging. But now I'm making friends and feeling like we're carving out a little space for ourselves here so that's nice :) I think your channel is going to take off because you're always introducing me to new to me designers and designs and I know there are others out there craving podcasts where the knitter isn't just knitting the same things as everyone else.
Ok and also same with the decor knits! I want to knit the stella quilt and cushion and I want to knit them with scraps to use them up, but also I don't want them to look scrappy if that makes sense 🤣

Right? I want people to text me but when I get more than 3 texts my brain gets fried haha 🤣 I’ve used slack for a few test knits and it was pretty nice! And thank you for your kind words! I’ve been getting a little discourage with my social media but I’m happy that I’m just done overthinking and I’m going to do what makes me happy! I love seeing scrappy projects but it’s too chaotic for my house teehee

Giiirrlll! Another great episode! Such good topics! Yeah I feel like the knitting community could definitely be better with newer knitters. The discourage you feel can definitely take a toll but if you can push through it it's worth the wait and finding your people can take time. I only recently found my people.
Test knitting is definitely a whole topic I feel like we could nitpick through because of the pros and cons and how some designers are.
These topics are definitely things worth talking more about!

Thank you so much! I wish people were more accepting but social media is so stressful sometimes so I kinda get it. I’m very happy to have never had a bad experience with test knitting!

"Knitting police don't exist, there's just rude people out there." 😂😂😂 Lovely to hear your thoughts, Faith. I've just started trying to work out how i might connect with the knitting community more.

Thank you so much for watching! Connecting with the knitting community was the best thing I’ve ever done! I’d recommend starting a knitting related instagram if you don’t have one already, or maybe a local yarn store near you might have a knit night they do!
