When you're in a strange/stressful situation, especially when you're in your late teens/early 20's, you'll bond very closely with the people you're around. It's easy to mistake these feelings for love. I saw so many times where people "loved" someone they were stationed with only to completely forget about that person and move on to someone new as soon as the person left. So if you marry a person in the military, there's a good chance once you get out and you try to start a family, you'll see that you aren't really good together, especially since you're no longer in those stressful situations. You don't need someone to meet the needs of your friends and family once you're out of the military and you can see those people again. I would say have fun, make friends, but don't get yourself involved in a serious relationship cause it will end in disaster. Look up the statistics; the divorce rate in the military is crazy high. There's a reason for that. And while I was stationed on a small island where military folk weren't allowed to bring dependents, there were only 2 people the entire time that were in relationships or married to someone not on the island that I know who didn't end up cheating. And they both happened to be super conservative Christians. I'm just saying go ahead and serve, but don't get involved in any kind of serious relationship.
My best friend who's in the navy just married her BF who's a marine but they did it very strategically and knew each other before they went into military
I really hope it works out for them. It always sucks when relationships fall apart. If they're still together 2 years from now and if you happen to remember this comment, please reply cause it would be awesome to think that at least 1 military couple made it work long term since I've never seen it happen before.
My son is there right now your videos help me understand what my son is going through he's in his 4th week, he graduates August 9th 2019 🤞 you girls help enormously thank you
@ElChivo 105 are you dumb? Nikki commented that 2 years ago and Kelly commented 1 year ago, I think nikkis daughter wouldn’t be in boot camp for a year....
I went through boot camp back in 1997. Overall, it was mostly psychological. The physical part might be a little challenging if you show up out of shape, but they will get you into shape pretty quick. Back in the day, we had to march EVERYWHERE. From what I understand, after they rebuilt the ships, each ship has their own chow hall. I could be mistaken though. After a three year stint with 2d Marine Division, I transferred back to NAVHOSPGLAKES (which is no longer there) and worked in the Emergency Department as an EMT. Made countless trips over to RTC picking up recruits for various reasons. Fun times! I hope that everyone that chooses to go into the Navy gets a lot out of Navy boot camp.HM1(FMF) Faust
The real test for me was off the coast of Vietnam long work days sleeping only 3-4 hr. a day. our ship earned a combat action ribbon. It was pretty crazy working in combat info center. But lots of good memories with all the travel I did
ET3 here graduated boot e1 because i was lazy in november 2016, Don't stand up during "The Moment of Truth" they dont know crap on you, don't even bother standing up if they ask you if you deserve to be there or if you shouldn't be there. Wow! Basic has changed a lot since 1964. I'll only say that it was about 3 days before I got 4 solid hours sleep. I was also issued soap, a washboard and clothes stops (short line that must be in a perfect square knot or your clothes would go on the ground) to hang my clothes after scrubbing. We did that every evening before lights out. Duty was every other night 2 to 4 hrs fire watch and you better know the 11 general orders if challenged. lots of marching and learning 16 count manual of arms with the Springfield. Gas chamber and all that stuff swim quals and such are probably the same. I forgot "service week" I had cups, bowls and glasses in the scullery 3 meals a day for 5 thousand wanna be Sailors also in boot camp. and no walking, if not marching you must running for the entire time in basic. Bye
@Sparrow Hawk ... Your 1964 experience exactly matches my 1969 boot camp at RTC NTC San Diego. Wash boards, 1903 Springfields, clothes ties in a square knot, 11 general orders, close order drill drill drill drill, marching constantly, i was even in the scullery during Service Week as well .. lol. Thanks for the memories ...
Good job Maia. When you explain it, it's so streamlined with the experience I had, I almost had flashbacks. haha, never made a better decision than enlisting in the NAVY long ago when it was my time. 17 years old and came in without any motivation or experience, left after 4 with both and used the GI bill to go to college then med school. Wouldn't be where I am now without a little freezing weather, bad food and singing songs with my new friends and division singing NAVY songs going under bridges.

You don't have to cut your hair, it just has to be put into a military regulated bun. Bangs will have to be pinned back since they can't be showing when wearing your cover.
Thank you for that very informative video, ladies. This is very helpful and beneficial for someone like me who's future ambition is to be Navy Nurse. You're lovely and encouraging and you just got another subscriber.
I'm thinking about joining once i turn 19, so i have a few questions. 1. do you take any kinds of test while there? if yes what is good to study before leaving? 2. what should i be able to do (physically) before leaving. 3. do you keep your phone in a box on base or ship it home? and 4. can you wear a watch on your right wrist or do you have to wear it on your left? (i know that's random but I'm just wondering)
I was in the Navy in 1992,I went to great mistakes for bootcamp, and till this day I still remember my company commanders,ICC(SW) Sulich and QMC(SW) Paige
I went to Great Lakes arrived 4 Jan 82 Co. 001 of the year. It was so cold! I laid low for the first 6 weeks then because of ineptitute on the part of others was appointed ARPOC of my company and then won the NLA for the graduation companies 26 Feb. Enjoyed my experience, was very eye opening. No females at the time as they went to Orlando Boot Camp. Great video!
Lol... I remember when I went thru Navy bootcamp in 1975..... went to 'Happy Hour' a few times there, which was not fun - 60 minutes of pure hell . That and our D.I. could physically touch you (like kicking you in the butt for moving while in formation)... hey I'm still here. Actually made it a career, best decision I ever made . retired as an E9 with 30.... go Navy
@@Abstraxz That's really cool! I was in 944, graduated October 4, 2000. I was the dental yeoman, and it sucked hardcore lol! I got chewed out so bad once cause the job was impossible; I was supposed to go to the dental place everyday to see if anyone in the division had an appointment, but there were days where no one was allowed to leave since all training was mandatory for graduation. Definitely a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation :p
I graduated from RTC Great Lakes....here is my advice 15 years later. I spent 8 years as a a submariner in Pearl Harbor HI, so I have decent background: 1) don’t volunteer for shit. Being a Yeoman/RPOC/AROC/Head PO’s or Flag/Guide On doesn’t equate to SHIT in the fleet. You only got rank for being RPOC. 2) 900 divisions. I have no idea how I got in one. I never played in the band, I never did JROTC or anything. Wasn’t a 4.0GPA student, in fact, I was barely a 2.5 student in high school 3) I went to boot camp a month after high school and a month prior to my 18th birthday. If you have a significant other at that age..move on, don’t bog yourself down 4) even though I was in an all male division, don’t be stupid and fraternizing with the females and ladies, vice versa. 5) if you can’t pass the navy intro PRT you need to give up. It’s a clown show joke. 6) get your wisdom teeth done before boot camp. That sucked 7) the navy was the best 8 years, 9 months, and 3 days of my life. I lived in Hawaii, and met my wife (NOT military) while I was in. I got my associates degree, got our 6 years ago, and became a police officer. I love my navy, but boot camp is a joke
I am seriously considering joining the Navy, i always hear “only the army let’s you choose your job”. What does that mean? Like does the navy let you choose which job you to enlist as or do they assign you
Tidal 9 hey killa, I’m an HN going through preventive med tech school right now. I picked to be a corpsman & when it was time to give a dream sheet in corps school I asked for overseas, west coast, and FMTB west. Never once did I request a C school & I’m insanely unhappy with my orders to tackle an NEC that I DONT want to work for the next 4 years to finish my contract. Instructors drill into you that the V in Navy stands for “volunteer/voluntold” and it’s very accurate. You can pick your rate at MEPS given availability and your ASVAB score but if your rate has C school options and you are qualified (high school & college GPA, the specific classes you took in both, overall military bearing, etc) there’s a very good chance you can be thrown into one even if you request not to be. Hit me on Twitter @iguanosaurus if you have any questions, I’m more than happy to answer
I just watched a navy boot camp video and it looks pretty intense. I've been doing research the past couple days and I was sure I felt comfortable going into the navy but after watching that video it looks pretty intense. Did you ever experience this?
F/S here shipping out in September 19. Great video! Here's a question, how do you become a division or section leader? Is it worth it? Also, what's wrong with port or starboard watch?
we got stationed on completely different sides of the world LOL so we haven't been able to do anything current. I have my own youtube channel now and would love to answer whatever questions you have! i'm still in the Navy and actually separate this coming october. Thanks for sticking around for 3 years!!
When you first arrive to Chicago by plane does the Navy pay for the plane ticket? Because I live all the way out in Arizona bout to graduate high school..
I know they don't cut girls hair anymore but is their a possibility of them shaving your head if you have a pixie cut? Cause ya girl does not want to be bald
Absolutely not girl haha they wouldn't ever shave a female's head, it's not in reg's. I'm about 99.9999% sure pixie cuts are totally fine. Just google the hair regs :) I'm sure you're fine though!
Maia it’s definitely in regulation for a female to shave her head.... you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Females with either have to have a bun tied back, shoulder length hair, any shorter and you have to conform to male standards
u can go corpsman. its basically a nurse, but ur gonna be on land for a while before u go to ur first ship. the advancement rates are pretty shitty, just because theres hellaaaaas corpsman in the navy.
Smart young ladies that's why they graduated! Lot of recruits don't make it i think they call recruits that don't make it (SAP'S)! I work in galley 7105 & 7103 & 7104 so i see them at meal time & marching!
Referring to NAVADMIN 214/17, the Rollout plan for the NWU Type 3. The type 3's, green digs camo, will be replacing the Type 1's, blue digi camo, effective October 1st, 2019, the whole Navy will have transitioned to the type 3's. -PS3
That is true but squadrons in lemoore are already wearing them and it is also up to the discretion of your commanding officer. Good job PS3 holding it down for admin, just make sure your sailors are paid correctly because my old squadron fucked it away alot!
Don't be scared! You don't have to do too many. DO NOT go into boot camp not being able to do them. How many push up's you do solely depends on who you have for RDC's and how often they decide to "beat you." Google the USN female/your age PRT standards before leaving. Definitely make sure you can do at LEAST the minimum before shipping. You don't have to do too many at all. It's more than possible. Push yourself and work hard, you'll be just fine :)
@@jokerswild4577 Lol that is what they call it when the RDC's PT you to the limit. They don't actually "beat you". When I was in, they might make it rain, where they'd PT us in the bunker/dorm/room with the doors and windows closed so hard that the perspiration evaporating from all of us would form water on the walls. But yeah, it was crazy how many people joined that couldn't do a single sit up or push up. We're not all trying to be SEAL's but everyone that joins should expect to be in okay shape. Like Maia said, check the PRT standards before going in and make sure you can do that. The push-ups aren't really all that bad. It seemed like the run was what really kicked everyone's butt. But if you can do that or at least get close to that going in, I'd say you should be okay :)
ok to add in the first 48 when you get off the bus expect yelling once you run inside their will be petty officers yelling to hand over your folder in their hands yes you do get a phone call plz do not wear multilayer clothes you will be rushed to dressed down also another thing you WILL be standing for like 4hours if so more heel to toe to waiting for your PT gear, drug test, etc Pdays you do not get sweaty when you mess up, learn your general orders you will be question all of boot camp and watch is mostly security you stand for 2hrs staring at the door to greet a petty officer or salute lieutenant who will question you about general orders...for jobs Rpoc is the main leader he/she gives orders to the division coming from the chief, the "yomen"/ medical yomen is like a secretary keep track of all documents, Aroc is the division singer, M.A your the voice to tell everyone to shut up,laundry P.O you will be very busy have a study buddy because you'll need one..learn to make 90s on your bed you will be inspected with everyone else the first 4 weeks after Pdays it's mostly all classes Banks, safety class etc biggest advice help each other out making your racks, folding, studying and it'll be easy
Thank you, trail blazing videos like this, will really be useful to potential recruits. I'm *well past maximum enlistment* age. But if TH-cam.com had been available when I was a strapping young 18 year old. And a pretty young lovely, like you were telling me that Navy boot camp wouldn't be so bad, I would have signed up in half a heartbeat!

My #1 piece of advice about joining the military: Never, never, NEVER marry anyone that you meet in the military. It will end in disaster. Trust me.

No they are not. The ones they issue in boot camp aren't bad though.
You don't have to cut your hair, it just has to be put into a military regulated bun. Bangs will have to be pinned back since they can't be showing when wearing your cover.
Maia how much in range would you say you saw left in your paycheck after your first couple of days outta boot camp... with its deductions and all
Thank you for that very informative video, ladies. This is very helpful and beneficial for someone like me who's future ambition is to be Navy Nurse. You're lovely and encouraging and you just got another subscriber.
I would only join the navy for my love of the sea. I love the sea. I couldn't care less for the money.
Devon Chapman lmfao what money
You must come from a rich family.
Military pay & benefits keeps a lot of people from being homeless.
These grils look like some Sailors I saw at Ft.Worth Naval Air Station.
Thank you for sharing! This is so nice. Please recommend and suggest more videos. You ladies are so lovely 🌸💫
Hey! I stumbled upon this video I don’t know how but I remember taking nursing with you guys. Hope you are doing ok and best of luck for both!
Karonlee Millan Oh yeah! Thank you and right back at you!
I was in the Navy in 1992,I went to great mistakes for bootcamp, and till this day I still remember my company commanders,ICC(SW) Sulich and QMC(SW) Paige
i’m 12 and my Dad was in the Navy! I’ve always wanted to join but my parents don’t support me at all! Can anyone help me or give me some tips?
I went to Great Lakes arrived 4 Jan 82 Co. 001 of the year. It was so cold! I laid low for the first 6 weeks then because of ineptitute on the part of others was appointed ARPOC of my company and then won the NLA for the graduation companies 26 Feb. Enjoyed my experience, was very eye opening. No females at the time as they went to Orlando Boot Camp. Great video!
Why was this is my random TH-cam recommendations?
Lol... I remember when I went thru Navy bootcamp in 1975..... went to 'Happy Hour' a few times there, which was not fun - 60 minutes of pure hell . That and our D.I. could physically touch you (like kicking you in the butt for moving while in formation)... hey I'm still here. Actually made it a career, best decision I ever made . retired as an E9 with 30.... go Navy
Great video ladies! My son is in Div 942..
Thanks for the info..
Nice! I was in Division 941, I was the RCPO, graduated on August 21st, 2015.
I have signed up and I’m so excited 😆 and I’m feeling confident
My boy just arrived at Great Lakes this week June 2019. He's gonna be a Nuke. Do you know any details about that program?
They're going to Charleston for A School!
Did he graduate?
I graduated from RTC Great Lakes....here is my advice 15 years later. I spent 8 years as a a submariner in Pearl Harbor HI, so I have decent background:
1) don’t volunteer for shit.
Wasn’t a 4.0GPA student, in fact, I was barely a 2.5 student in high school
3) I went to boot camp a month after high school and a month prior to my 18th birthday. If you have a significant other at that age..move on, don’t bog yourself down
4) even though I was in an all male division, don’t be stupid and fraternizing with the females and ladies, vice versa.
5) if you can’t pass the navy intro PRT you need to give up. It’s a clown show joke.
6) get your wisdom teeth done before boot camp. That sucked
7) the navy was the best 8 years, 9 months, and 3 days of my life. I lived in Hawaii, and met my wife (NOT military) while I was in. I got my associates degree, got our 6 years ago, and became a police officer. I love my navy, but boot camp is a joke
thanks for sharing!
Who’s enlisting in 2019 Atlanta Ga
When are you shipping?
🙋🏾♂️
Lol me ! Stone Mountain!
i am 68 only one reason you march in boot i did it in 1968 is for graduation. i love my navy.
“Holy trinity”😂😂
Do you remember Fire Fighting? More specifically the confidence chamber? You are welcome.
I was in a 900 company back in '94, RTC band, no KP duty, and parades outside the base.
Im enlisting in 2023 lol. I just wanna be ready lmao
Ashlee Gubanche lmao enjoy life now. Don’t need to be ready for a while
Hi all👋!
Great video, very informative. I'm a 39 yo female, late in the game, preparing for the ASVAB now. Any tips are appreciated
I just watched a navy boot camp video and it looks pretty intense. I've been doing research the past couple days and I was sure I felt comfortable going into the navy but after watching that video it looks pretty intense. Did you ever experience this?
It's exactly like the video
All the acronyms make it a little difficult to understand, but a very thorough presentation. Thanks!
F/S here shipping out in September 19. Great video! Here's a question, how do you become a division or section leader? Is it worth it? Also, what's wrong with port or starboard watch?
GM here shipping out sept 10th!... hopefully it's not to bad🤣
I went to boot camp in December of 1995. I'm sure that a lot has changed since then.
Do you know a sailor named April moon
2021 I'm still here but where they at they haven't posted in 3 years
we got stationed on completely different sides of the world LOL so we haven't been able to do anything current. I have my own youtube channel now and would love to answer whatever questions you have! i'm still in the Navy and actually separate this coming october. Thanks for sticking around for 3 years!!
The blue uniform looks tough
i love our new NWU's!
I love those blue camouflage uniforms. They look sick!
When you first arrive to Chicago by plane does the Navy pay for the plane ticket? Because I live all the way out in Arizona bout to graduate high school..
Yes they do. I flew out of LA and didn't pay anything
Thanks so much for the information it’s very helpful for me but still a long time till I’ll be able to join
Okay thank you!!!
Maia it’s definitely in regulation for a female to shave her head.... you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Females with either have to have a bun tied back, shoulder length hair, any shorter and you have to conform to male standards
I have hair to mid back , is it ok ?
i was starboard watch, shit was mad stressful, but very rewarding as far as the watch standing goes. and my rdcs were cool so i never got beat. 😎
omg nice!! my poor starboard watch got beat literally ALL the time haha!!
any advice for a high school undecided student who wants to be in the navy as a nurse ? ( i'm a 15 year old junior )
u can go corpsman. its basically a nurse, but ur gonna be on land for a while before u go to ur first ship. the advancement rates are pretty shitty, just because theres hellaaaaas corpsman in the navy.
Hi love! reach out to me on IG and i can answer this question in complete depth. @studieswithashley
Smart young ladies that's why they graduated! Lot of recruits don't make it i think they call recruits that don't make it (SAP'S)! I work in galley 7105 & 7103 & 7104 so i see them at meal time & marching!
You guys aren't going to be wearing blue anymore:(
Yes we are, Dress Blues, Coveralls are blue. I can go off base wear a blue wristband. We are still going to wear blue.
+Daniel Alvarez wait why would they not be wearing blue anymore?
Referring to NAVADMIN 214/17, the Rollout plan for the NWU Type 3. The type 3's, green digs camo, will be replacing the Type 1's, blue digi camo, effective October 1st, 2019, the whole Navy will have transitioned to the type 3's. -PS3
That is true but squadrons in lemoore are already wearing them and it is also up to the discretion of your commanding officer. Good job PS3 holding it down for admin, just make sure your sailors are paid correctly because my old squadron fucked it away alot!
Why would they get rid of such a beautiful uniform that just says Navy . How often do people fall over board ?
She posted one video and dipped
I ship out in two weeks. I’m scared af
here's a set of advice. Shutp the fuck up and pay attention. I mean that to help you out
It really isn't shit but the first night you lose alot of sleep any questions just ask.
Howd you do?
How’d it go?🤗
I'm realllyyy concerned about the push-up portion. Do they make you do enough push-ups that you will pass your final test?
Don't be scared! You don't have to do too many. DO NOT go into boot camp not being able to do them. How many push up's you do solely depends on who you have for RDC's and how often they decide to "beat you." Google the USN female/your age PRT standards before leaving. Definitely make sure you can do at LEAST the minimum before shipping. You don't have to do too many at all. It's more than possible. Push yourself and work hard, you'll be just fine :)
I'm asking because I've read how people left more out of shape than what they came in. It was a simple question. That is all.
Thank you go HAM or go HOME!
@@itsmaiacarter What does "beat you" mean?
My granddaughter just joined yesterday. September 9.
So so helpful! Thx
This was very helpful ladies...wish you come out with more videos
if you breathe and can walk and have basic language you will pass navy bootcamp. "ma2"
Breathing has always made me anxious, what if my VO2 max isn't high enough?
@Alex Robinson can you tell me how you practice breathing
ok to add in the first 48 when you get off the bus expect yelling once you run inside their will be petty officers yelling to hand over your folder in their hands yes you do get a phone call plz do not wear multilayer clothes you will be rushed to dressed down also another thing you WILL be standing for like 4hours if so more heel to toe to waiting for your PT gear, drug test, etc Pdays you do not get sweaty when you mess up, learn your general orders you will be question all of boot camp and watch is mostly security you stand for 2hrs staring at the door to greet a petty officer or salute lieutenant who will question you about general orders...for jobs Rpoc is the main leader he/she gives orders to the division coming from the chief, the "yomen"/ medical yomen is like a secretary keep track of all documents, Aroc is the division singer, M.A your the voice to tell everyone to shut up,laundry P.O you will be very busy have a study buddy because you'll need one..learn to make 90s on your bed you will be inspected with everyone else the first 4 weeks after Pdays it's mostly all classes Banks, safety class etc biggest advice help each other out making your racks, folding, studying and it'll be easy
Love very smart intelligent young pretty. Females in uniform.
Chill Marco 💀
Both your very beautiful . very good officer highly talented . I love your attitude .
Who's else is enlisting 2020?
Hoo Yah 👊🏼
Thank you very much!!! Will be joining soon!
Boot camp ain't shit. It's too easy. People psych themselves about it.
richard guzman pretty much how most people in my div got kicked out. Too scared but if you do what you are told its easy
hector lopez definitely. It’s way too easy.
so they take your cellphone?? do they give it back afterwards?
Fonsecas gorgeous 😍
Thank you, trail blazing videos like this, will really be useful to potential recruits. I'm *well past maximum enlistment* age. But if TH-cam.com had been available when I was a strapping young 18 year old. And a pretty young lovely, like you were telling me that Navy boot camp wouldn't be so bad, I would have signed up in half a heartbeat!
Hi. I get ready to join to Navy but I don't know how to swim? Do I need to learn it first before I go there?
Yes you do. There are a couple other comments below regarding the swim portion for you to refer to as well. Good luck!
Thank u so much . I hope u will giving more information for next video.
